wireless mic or headset/mic recocommendation needed

2015-11-15 Thread Joy Tilton
Okay, I've a logitech H800, which is a decent headset. However, the mic
is so tinny, At times it causes communication issues with hearing
impaired persons dealing with such things as tinitus when I talk with
them over the pc. Plus, for decent recordings, the mic does not give a
rich enough sound

What would be a decent sounding wireless mic that does not cost an arm
and a leg, something that can generate a more well-rounded sound?

actually, there is an opening on the left hand side of the h800. There's

Hey Mike. I looked into Radionomy several years ago. I'm calling on my
memory to describe my experience with them, so I could be recalling small
details inaccurately, but here's how I remember my experience with them.

I found accessibility there to be a bit awkward, at least for me, but
manageable. Their tech support answered questions promptly and helpfully. As
I recall, at the time that I checked into it, they allowed free use of their
service for six months. If, during that time, they were able to sell
advertising on the station in question, then you could continue using the
service for free. If they could not sell advertising after the six month
period, you would need to pay to continue using the service.

I believe I am correct in saying that they now own Shoutcast, which I will
probably be using when I sign my own station on in a few weeks.

Re: Recommendations for an audio book reader?

2013-10-12 Thread Joy Tilton
I'm personally more a fan of the VR Stream than the Book Port Plus, even
though, right now I'm using the older generation VR Stream.
It seems like the VR Stream has more navigational options than the
BookPort Plus. Furthermore, it's more sturdily built Than the BP Plus.

Another thing to consider:
Granted, I've not had to have my VR Stream repaired, however. I tried to
get my Bookport plus repaired. I sent it in to hopefully get the USB
port and power port fixed and was told it was possible they could fix
it. I sent APH $50. Then I get a call stating after over a week or so,
that they'd have to send this thing to another country because they
didn't want to try fixing the ports due to there being a rather thin
motherboard. To It wouldn't have been worth it to do that. me, that was
bad business and $50 I could have saved, plus the extra money spent on
sending it to them. Never again.
All that out of the way, The bookPort Plus does record quite nicely in
comparison to the VR Stream older generation. But, I love the more
navigation options in the VR Stream over the BookPort Plus.

Right now it looks like they both do the same thing, but the Victor
Stream reader does seem to integrate the player more seemlessly with
various book sharing sites. That's what I really want. Don't want to
have to keep plugging and unplugging my reader to my PC to upload
books to it. I want it to have that ability built directly in via
Wi-fi. Avoids any USb connection issues for sure.

Wish there was a coupon or something available to reduce the price of
both devices. I would just shell out the money for both of them so I
can test them on my own.

I've had a Book Port Plus for 3 years and have had no trouble with it.

I purchased the BookSense when it was released 4 years ago. I have
had the same problems with this device as other users. The speaker
and Lock Switch both need replacement. The rattle in the speaker
doesn't bother me too much since I usually use a headset.
Intermittent failures of the Lock Switch are a bigger problem since
they render the unit useless until I can persuade it to unlock. Some
day the switch will fail completely, and I will have to send it off
to Texas for repair.

As for the Bluetooth feature, I consider its implementation on the
BookSense XT to be rather poor since you can't control the unit from
a headset. I've also experienced Bluetooth disconnecting from my
headset when audio is paused for a few seconds.

Both the Book Port Plus and new Victor Reader Stream have wireless
capability. Both will be adding the ability to download books
directly without using a computer. This doesn't appear to include
Audible books, however.

All 3 devices play Audible books very well in my experience. I like
navigation a little better on the Book Port Plus and new Victor
Reader Stream with their dedicated navigation keys.

Sorry about the delay in answering your question. You would use the f3
and f4 commands to mark where you want to make cuts. You mark the
beginning of where you want to cut, then use your navigation commands to
go forward to the end of where you want to cut, and press f4, then delete.
You can, btw, decide which commands you wish to use for navigating
through the video under the navigation tab in the prefferences under
tools. For instance, You can move one minute at a time with
control+right or left arrow, every ten seconds with shift+ctrl+right or
left arrow, and so forth.

I'm assuming that if your card is a Hauppauge, then it should have come

Re: Convert .WTV Recorded TV To DVRMS2

2010-09-13 Thread Joy Tilton
It has an ad detector, but, I personally prefer to edit the comercials
myself to make darn sure it's accurate, since there are times where
there might not be much of a screen differential between the end of
comercial or next segment or whatever. In fact, I've seen times where
the ad detector would not detect end of comercial segment due to
comercial literally running soundwise into the show segment. So, with
that in mind, 'tis best to do it manually

I googled something like video redo tv suite. About the third or 4th
link
in the results was a post to the support forum about the pre-release
version

of Video Redo TV Suite version 4.

Thanks for the tip from the PC Audio list that Video Redo TV Suite has a
pre-release version 4 that does support .WTV files. I upgraded from the
latest released version to this new version for $25.99 and have
successfully

opened the WTV project. Note that I did not find the .WTV file itself in
version 4 of Video Redo TV Suite, but I was able to open the project
in the

Public Recorded TV folder.

I have not yet performed edits etc with the new version. But it seems to
use the same basic menu structure as the prior version.

Here is how to download a video from YouTube with Free Download Manager:

I went to the following URL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx6Eo6liyCg

Hit h for headers until you get to related videos

Arrow down to the first link.

With the cursor on the link hit the right mouse button, numpad *.
Arrow up until you hear Download Video with Free Download manager.
Hit enter.

A dialog to create flash video download will then appear
You will hear the URL
Tab once and check the checkbox to automatically convert the downloaded
video to the specified format if you want to download it as something
besides a .flv file. If you want an .flv file leave the checkbox
unchecked

and tab to the OK button and hit enter.

Tab once to the customize button. Enter to set up the first time if you
want

all downloads converted to the same thing evry time.
There will be a list view for whatever format you want. mp3 is at the
bottom

of the list.
Tab and it asks to change the size of the video. Since we are doing mp3
it

doesn't matter where this is set.
Tab and select the quality.
Tab and there wil be a checkbox to check if what you have done is to be
the

default.
Tab to OK and hit enter
You will then be back to the original dialog
Tab to OK and hit enter.

The download will then start. A window will pop up showing the info about
the download.

I don't know if this link actually lets you download. Some videos may not
be
downloaded. It gave me the title of the piece but didn't do anything. It
is

still listed on the FDM program. But these are the steps to download the
videos that you can download.

strange issue with SBLive sound card

2009-06-17 Thread Joy Tilton
WE're having an issue with the SBLive, where when we record using either
Gold wave or any other recorder, whatever is recorded ends up sounding like
the bass is all gone, and it's got a weird expanded stereo effect as if the
connection has a bad ground without the hum. This only occurs when playing
back a file just recently recorded. we're using SBLive as the input and

Nope. It's not a plug issue. It appears to be in issue coming from the
input as we record off the Stereo mixer on the sound card. There's no

Sounds like a plug might not be inserted all the way. If you partially
pull out a stereo plug (especially the 1/8 in. mini type) you'll very
often get the effect you discribe.

Hi. I'm editing audio for someone who prefers that the task be completed
in Sound Forge. I generally use GoldWave, so I'm trying to get a handle on
how things are done in Sound Forge. For one thing, in Goldwave, I can
listen to a file in fast forward at any speed I designate by pressing F6.
If I understand Sound Forge correctly I should be able to listen to a file
in Fast forward mode by pressing the letter F. But it isn't working for
me. I stongly suspect that operator error is at fault here, so can
somebody please tell me how I can listen to a file in fast forward mode in
Sound Forge? I don't want to change the file's speed. I just want to
listen to it at a higher rate of speed.

Thanks in advance.

another one I use is Magic dvd ripper. (google it) This one also allows
you to not only rip in mp3, but, you can rip in various video formats, wmv,
avi, mpg, and so forth.

Try DVD Audio Extractor, www.castudio.org. Primarily a DVD ripper, it can
also be used as a basic DVD player, including video support. Is fully
accessible, and costs around $40. A free 30-day trial is available.

Trust this is on topic, but if it isn't then I'll include a link at the
end

to make it easier to email me off-list.

A friend wants to play DVD films on her PC - running Windows XP Home and
latest version of JFW I believe.

I've advised installing Windows Media Player 11 which she says she's done,
but she cannot play DVDs still. Whether this is her not knowing exactly
how
to play DVDs in Windows Media Player, or else not knowing how to get to
the

play and navigation options, I'm not sure, but help on the use of Windows
Media Player for watching/listening to DVD films would be helpful.

Finally, is there a program which makes this easier than using Windows
Media

Player?

Many thanks.

Ray.

USB headsets in conjunction with multiple sound cards

2009-03-16 Thread Joy Tilton
In consideration of a possible new headset for the pc, and recently checking
out a USB headphone, I heard that the headset, when connected to the pc,
disables the speakers. However, I'm seeing this on a pc with just one sound
card.
Is there a way, when working with multiple sound cards, to determine which
sound card you wish to hear through the head set, or does it play both sound
cards through there, and are both sound devices disabled where speakers are
concerned?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I got the picture that most of the controls
are on the ear buds that come with this device. If so, that's a show
stopper right there and right now, especially for some of us who can't wear
ear buds or prefer the old fashioned type head sets.

Re: Is it possible to edit video?

2009-03-01 Thread Joy Tilton
I'm using a USB 2.0 tuner made by Haupaug, although it is a few years old,
and it is not HD compatible. The version of WindTv 2000 I'm using is
dooable with jaws, although I found I had to use the jaws cursor alot when
using the scheduler. Personally, as far as access is concerned, I found
that ATI's All-In-wonder series for the 9600 was a lot more intuitive --
namely the Multi-media-center suite - and am hoping that they are keeping up
with how well access is with their newer tuner cards or USB devices.
It would be nice if one could choose their own tv tuner software rather than
having to stick with the software provided with the tuner card.

problem with mpeg

2009-01-12 Thread Joy Tilton
Okay, I'm going to ask this again. Apparently, WinAmp seems to have
difficulties with mpeg files that I record using WinTv 2000. The sound may
work, assuming that winamp does not error out. However, the video does not
move in sync with the audio, if at all.
I'm sure there is someone on here with either some sight, or who has a sighted
household member who can understand the quandry.
If there is no way to get winamp to work well with this format, even if it may
claim to play it, is there a converter out there that is useable which can
convert mpeg to other video formats, such as .avi or .wmv?

video problem in winamp

2009-01-10 Thread Joy Tilton
Okay, I'm using winamp, which is my preferred media player, and I'm having
difficulty with mpeg files where the video does not move along with the sound.
Furthermore, a lot of times winamp will perform an error when playing an mpeg,
or it will freez up if I try using any of the transport controls in winamp,
such as fast forwarding and so forth. Unfortunately, my new tv program I just
installed -- WindTv 2000 -- only records in mpeg.
Any ideas?

You do need Soundtaxi if you want to burn Netlibrary books because WMP
doesn't split a large file up into CD unit sizes, but an Overdrive audio
book is split up into individual parts that will each fit on a CD.

 Hi again
I like Sound Taxi but became concerned when I found that I could not
 totally
trust it. Recently however using less resources it seems more stable.
 The
problem is that of course when you do a 13 hour book you can't be sure
 it
hasn't left silences in the middle of it.

I'll continue to use Sound Taxi because I don't believe it breaks
 copyright.
I have however found out about two other programs which claim to do the
 same
sort of thing. I don't have time to investigate apart from having looked
 at
their webpages but some of you may wish to try them out. Again I don't
 think
 they have copyright problems.

I found them on a list thus the blurb below. They are:
 Alternatives to Sound Taxi

Apple should have removed the DRM control long long time ago! How can we
convert DRM protected music to unprotected WAV, MP3 or WMA? This problem
 sucks

many iTunes users like me. I tried both TuneBite(

 http://www.tunebite.com

 ) and

 NoteBurner(

 http://www.noteburner.com)

. These two software can convert WMA or even protected itunes music
 (M4P)
 to
MP3. They worked perfectly on my computer. The only difference between
 TuneBite

and NoteBurner is that TuneBite uses recording technique while
 NoteBurner
burns music onto a virtual CD-R. I cannot tell any difference in terms
 of
 the

music quality. But I would agree that NoteBurner is faster and more
 reliable

Well, even if an audio book was a 1 gig protected wma file, (and I
 don't
think even war and peace would be that huge) the wav file would take
 up
 ten
gigs, and I usually have thirty or more free on my local hard drive
 at
 any
given time. It converts files to wav extremely quickly. The song only
 took
 a
 few seconds.

  Sure it will.
I would not convert to wav for an audio book. I have never had the

you described converting an audio book with sound taxi given that I
  use
 32

I had an interesting problem with sound taxi platnum. When I installed it,
it took away both my sound cards. I had to get sighted help to do a system
restore. On an older motherboard, when I managed to run ST Platnum, I
noticed it installed a sound driver of it's own. But, on this new
motherboard I found it didn't seem to like my sound cards or something,
since it disabled both of them completely to the point that neither showed
when I brought up sounds and audio from the control pannel.

Ok, what version of sound Taxi was this. That was exactly the same problem
I had when I installed it on my Sony desktop and not even the system restore
saved my but because it also trashed something with my cdrom drives. That
was a long long time ago however and the Sound Taxi support people claim
they fixed that a couple of builds after the version I tried. Just curious

I would like to find a DVD player that will let you choose which sound card
you want it to go through. The only one I know of is Windows Media Player.
But, for some reason, even when I try adjusting or turning this off in the
view menue, I can't get rid of this web page that comes up every time I try

I would recomand Nero showtime, for the following reasons
1.the functions can be all found in the context menu key
2. you don't have to change your sound card settings.
3.the video is clear.
4the picture and sound come accross in nero digital/mp4
5.
the next option would be power dvd which i have also used.
that is also accessible with the function key but you sometimes have to go
and set audio and video settings.
least recomanded i would say is win dvd the picture, and audio aren't not as
clear as the above two programs.

Hi Chris,

Perhaps, the reason is that the Olympus recorders save only in WMA format.
In order to podcast or otherwise get a clear MP3 file, use of a utility like

Wait just a minute. Wile I'll agree that the once off S bomb is nothing to be

maybe not taking the time to read the whole page, this that and the other, like
everyone has to be as intuitive as he. One of the people who protested the
bann said he thought this list was to help people. In Lin's case, he was being
somewhat helpful, but in a way that can be a bit offputting, especially for
those people who may not be as literate in some forms of computing as other
forms. How would you feel if you had a question and you asked, and someone
came at you with an answer like, RTFM! Some manuals are as off-putting as
some people's additude that everyone should be as smart as the writer who wrote
the mannual.

Think about that!

I searched for the ds-50 on Amazon, and Olympus was not listed as a brand name.
Still looking for that particular model, assuming it is available there? What
else would it be listed under since there are several digital voice recorders
listed under Olympus with no model number listed.

You'll be impressed, and Milestone certainly isn't worth another $150 more
than these new recorders. They are already for sale several places on the
internet, including Amazon. Amazon also has a fuller spec sheet on the
DS-50 than the Olympus announcement.

Re: review of Muvo V-100 mp3 player/recorder

2007-01-03 Thread Joy Tilton
Well, I did post the review on Amazon where one can submit a review of the
product, since I did buy it through there. Although, I further added something
to the effect that the mannual provided on the cd rom which came with it was
not much help, only giving cursory explanations of some of the features, and no
step by step instructions. Another bad move, folks!

*** REPLY SEPARATOR ***

Sometimes I think we should put up a product review web site and put
reviews
like this there for all the world to see. That might get the attention of
the manufacturers. The thing would be to let the rest of the world think
it
is a regular product review web site.

First I'll give the pluses. What I consider a plus for this item is the
direct plug and play access without any stinkin' proprietory software to
muck around with. That, to me, is more a must than a plus!
Second plus, although, not necessarily anything real big or important, is
the fact one can take this equipment apart and just use the guts of the
unit, when separated from the battery pack, as a thumb drive.
Third plus and must, is the multiple level directories one can work with,
the way mp3 players should work in mine humpble opinion, not this single
directory junk where the device does it's own numbering system according to
when each file was loaded into the player. That's a big fat minus where
the
Ipod shuffle, or any other device like that is concerned. Fourth plus is,
of course, the space at 2 gigabytes.

Now for the minuses, which are unfortunately way more than the plusses.
Firstly, there are only four buttons or switches on this device, volume up
and down, scroll switch, and play/power button.
So, right there, you know that the scroll switch is going to be the main
controlling factor on this unit as far as moving from track to track, or
going through menues which I'll get to in a bit.
Secondly, no audio feedback, of course, unless you stay in Music or maybe
recorded tracks, and you turn the device on by holding the play/power
button for roughly five seconds, then wait for the unit to boot up, which
can take upwards of 12 seconds, depending upon how much data is stored.
As for the menues -- which are accessed by pressing the scroll switch --
they do not default. So, even if you memorize the menues, you have to
remember where the heck you left off at. So, if you left off at
Microphone,
there's a possibility that once you manage to turn the device on, you might
be continuing the recording. Oh, to select what you want in a menu, you
press the scroll switch again.
And, of course, there is no audible monitor through the headset when you
record. So, of course, you have to ask a sighted person if the recorder is
going.
Oh, speaking of having a sighted person help, what is with these stupid
symbols rather than actual written text stating where one is in the menues?
Furthermore, what is with this bad habit of these devices that stay in a
menu for no more than maybe 5 seconds at the most? For someone trying to
help a blind person out, or for someone with difficulty with focus issues,
that just does not work, people! Heo!
As for recording, the quality is poor. Now, I'm taking into consideration
the fact that the recordings are being done in low bit-rate wave files.
However, the recording volume -- or maybe it's the volume setting used for
recorded tracks -- is very much lacking.

So, here's my final grading of the MuVo V-100 by Creative.
I give it an A for concept, an A for space,, However, for ease of use and
accessibility, I give it a D minus.
Why a D minus rather than an F for accessibility? Well, as long as you
stay
in music and as long as you don't accidentally press the scroll switch
before moving it left or right to go from track to track, or for scanning
tracks, then you're okay. Secondly -- for folks who are left handed, one
can go into the settings menu and rotate the display. I guess that can
actually be a help if a blind person is getting help from a sighted person
and it makes it easier for the sighted person to se the screen.
Creative seemed to have had a neat idea when they made the first MuVo with
no display. However, I got the impression that those particular models
were
lacking in space.

Was considering purchasing a flash drive mp3 player that is at least 1 gig
in memory. The IPod shuffle sounds great except for a couple things I just
found out. Supposedly this is only a single directory mp3 player. I'd like
to have a player which works like an mp3 cd player in that one can play
files that are in directories within directories. I don't listen to music
on my player, but, rather, I carry books with me. And at times, I read
books in series. Because of which, I require something that allows a multi
level directory ability.
Furthermore, as I examine a review on the Anapod, I am given the impression
that the files are played as loaded, and apparently, Anapod numbers each
file that is loaded into the Ipod. Is that necessary, or can that be
changed at all.

Hi,

I've been watching this thread on and off and I don't know if the link to
the blind IPOD Portal has been posted or not. If you have an IPOD I like
the little rebuild.exe tool that you store on your player. this little tool

Well, the txfm's were a bit much, plus I was just looking for a media player

Hi Gangstress:

Forget about the Zenn!

The nanos are IPods and are useful in a sense that they support Audible but
not DRM. Also, they have a click wheel type interface that is very
difficult for blind users no matter what firmware you are using. If your
looking for a simple flash player and the TXFM 2 GB is no longer available I
would go with the shuffle because it's very tactile and uses no screen. If
you just want to play MP3's or OGG files then you could try an IPOD with
rockbox.

If you really want to go in style and you have $400 and up to spend you
should grab a Book Port or ?Book currier.

There designed for the blind and support Play's for sure and Audible. They
also use storage cards up to 4 GB and higher.

Seems like the major stores, such as Circuit city, and best buy aren't

I saw a 2 gb model of Nuvo, but not the txfm, however, again, I only saw it
on Amazon and no where else. Wonder if it's being discontinued? How usable
are these zens or nanos?

Just my opinion here. Don't waste your money on MP3
players/recorders made specifically for the sighted user. Buy
the Book Port from APH. I use this device everyday to listen to
podcasts and other media I download. I transfer the recordings
Replay AV makes for me to the Book Port. You do not have to
worry about what menu your on as the Book Port reads all the
folders and files to you through your headphones. Uses double A
batteries. I hear that there's a chance for a newer Book Port
unit. Is this true? I would love to see the new BP to have a
better recorder and smaller body. Support for WMA and WMA DRM
would be awesome. Petro

i was always under the impression that JAWS already had scripts built in

it for SoundForge, but maybe that was for a different version. I am more
a
GoldWave guy, although I certainly have used SF, and love it. The only
reason that I don't use it, is because for me, it was a bit too pricy for
my
budget, but yet GoldWave is only 44 U.S. dollars which in my opinion, for
what all you get and what all it does is phenomenelly reasonable.

I think both players have their plusses, and minuses, but, anyway... I
don't

i was always under the impression that JAWS already had scripts built in
 to
it for SoundForge, but maybe that was for a different version. I am more
 a
GoldWave guy, although I certainly have used SF, and love it. The only
reason that I don't use it, is because for me, it was a bit too pricy for
 my
budget, but yet GoldWave is only 44 U.S. dollars which in my opinion, for
what all you get and what all it does is phenomenelly reasonable.

I think both players have their plusses, and minuses, but, anyway... I
 don't
anna get off topic of this thread, so I won't comment on that right at

RE: Is there such a thing as a blind friendly player that plays bothRAXand Wma/drm files?

2006-10-20 Thread Joy Tilton
Well, I'd just like to find a reasonably priced, and reasonably blind
friendly portable mp3 player that uses direct plug n play for hooking up to
a pc, rather than proprietory software. I don't care if it plays RA, or wma
really, since I do everything in mp3, although, if it does ogg, I guess I
won't complain, but, not something I'd expect for a reasonably priced
player. What I mean by reasonably blind friendly, is that one can do more
than just use the play, rewind and fast forward with some ease. It doesn't
have to be a talking product to be user friendly.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
From: Chipmunks [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have found Skype Agent, an add-on to skype that gives me Caller ID
for skype in that it anounces who an incoming call is by. In addition
it also offers voice control for skype, i.e. saying call user is
to go and call the user with that name. I have not done anything with
the speech recognition part though.

I actually would have caller id with the skype scripts for jaws if I
set them to do this but caller id with the jaws scripts depends on
enabling what is called skypewatch which also announces contacts
signing in and oout of skype, which to me can get very annoying if it
causes a constant stream of background chatter.

And, of course, Skype Agent also gives caller ID to those not using
jaws for their screen access.

Skype Agent uses Microsoft Agent ttechnology for speech. It hides out
of the way if not in use. Additionally there are invisible agents
that do not even appear on screen and which therefore are my personal
preference.

skype agent can be gotten from:

http://www.myweb.cableone.net/cjmclellen/

There is a contact link on the page also. Since Skype agent is still
in development,it would be helpful if the developer got as much
feedback from blind users as possible.

Unfortuantely there is no documentation for skype agent but it is
very easy to use. It installs to

drive letter:\program files\skype agent

and puts a shortcut on the start menu. The interface for its
configuration is pretty accessible and can be gotten thru by just
tabbing around and using standard keyboard commands.

Maybe this will be useful to some.

Cheers,

Doris

 Hello all!

A friend of mine has just told me about a new Panasonic video hard
drive recorder that's just come out, it has an Ethernet connection
which allows it to be networked to a computer or other video
recorder, a 400 gig hard drive and can record multi formats such as
MP3 etc, the built-in DVD drive will also record. My friend works at
Panasonic and may be able to get a unit for me to try, would any list
members be interested in my findings?

As yet, I haven't been able to study the manual but I'm told that the
recorder features a html interface similar to those found on say the
Linksys Wireless Gateways or Hp fax devices, this interface allows
the user to edit chapter titles, playlists of recorded material and
I'm told, set menus and functions of the recorder itself and its this
last point that I'm personally very excited about for if it is indeed
true, then it means that the unit will be accessible and we can
bypass the displayed menus on the TV screen etc, not to mention
getting the full functionality that connecting a video recorder to a
 comptuer can provide.

unable to get winamp to title stream

2005-09-02 Thread Joy Tilton
Whether I'm using 5.091, 5.092 or 5.093, I can't seem to get the title
streaming to work at all when listening to stations. All I get are the http
addresses of the stations. Furthermore, and this could be a motherboard issue,
though, I don't see why it would be, I am unable to install any version of
winamp above 5.093. I'm using Windows xp running it on a motherboard with a
950 mhz processor.
I had tried making adjustments to the metadata configuration as far as how the
title streaming is suppose to come up, however no matter what changes I make, I
still only get the URL in the title bar. What can be the cause of this?

using the sound forge batch converter to encode from ogg to mp3

Okay, I'm going to ask this again. But, first off, before someone suggests
another piece of software, keep in mind that I'm only asking about sound forge
8, since that's the program I choose to work with, and I've been given the
impression that this can be done.
So, with that in mind, How can I get to the file format conversion in the sf8.0

Tv Tuner help

2005-04-06 Thread Joy Tilton
Okay, trying this again. I just got an airlink external tv tuner a couple days
ago, which came with what appears to be rather inaxessible software, namely,
PVR Plus.
If anyone has ever gotten that software to work, I'm curious as to how. If
not, which software would you reccomend as far as speech friendly goes?
I was about tt try the trial version of Home Theater made by Intervideo, but,
the tv feature seems to be disabled, plus I noticed one can not just arrow or
tab through the various buttons, such as dvd, VCD, and other buttons on there.
Any ideas before I find I hav e no choice but to turn this tuner back and get
my refund?

tv tuner card issues

2005-04-04 Thread Joy Tilton
I just bought an Airlink 101 tv tuner/vidio capture card yesterday. Apparently
the pvr plus software which came with it does not seem to be accessible, or
rather when I try working the TVR portion of it, my speech disappears.
Furthermore, apparently, the video kind of moves in almost a still frame
movement, still frame by still frame, or something like that with toly parts of
the picture showing.
As for the access issue, is PVR Plus the only software that can work with
Airlink, or is it possible to get something like WinTv, which appears to be a
bit more workable?

I forget where this program came from, but, I had an alarm clock on my system
called Banshee Screamer. This will play not only it's own rather annoying but
loud alarm that comes with it, but, you can also program it to execute mp3 or

highly programmable.
Yes, last I checked, it's free.

Re: Talking books todigital files

2004-12-30 Thread Joy Tilton
What i do is, since I have the use of a four track recorder of the multitrack
variety, I record with sound forge tracks 1 and 3 off the recorder, 1
completely panned to the left and 3 completely panned to the right. I record
all this at 1 and 7/8 speed off the recorder and at a sampling rate of 44/100.
Then when I'm done, I'd select the content off a single channel and copy it to
aanother window that is set for mono at a sampling rate of 22/050, then save
the mono file according to the side number.
Tracks 1 and 3 are what I use since they both play in the same direction and
one does not need to do any reversing. Of course, again, this is for those of
us with multitrack tape recorders.

Peter! I haven't recorded a talking book from cassette to my computer

Forge set to record at 11,025 samples per second, 16 bit, stereo I would
record a talking book cassette played in an ordinary stereo cassette player.
I could only do one side of a cassette at a time. After recording I would
have a recording where two tracks played together and at twice their normal
speed. With Sound Forge I could separate the tracks and slow them down. I
always used Pitch Shift to slow them down but others use resampleing. I
guess if I were doing it today I would record at 44,100 in order to preserve
as much of the audio quality as possible. I would let the MP3 conversion
handle all the file compression. For MP3s of speech files today I routinely
use 32 KBPS. If you can't figure out part of this feel free to let me know.
I'd have to play a little to remember how some of this is done.

I'd like at least a gig of memory, if it has permanent storage. However,
in

I know I won't find the perfect player out there, but I'd like to get the

I have even considered the PlexTalk, but although that gives me some
additional capabilities, it's awfully pricey.

Any recommendations???

Re: xm radio online service

2004-11-08 Thread Joy Tilton
Well, I'm assuming that a car kit is actually a cassette with a wire hanging
out the back end of it, with an 8th inch jack on the end of the wire. The
general purpose is for hooking the xm radio up to the car's casette player.
However, you can put this thing into any kind of casette player if you want.
For a time, I was using this car kit to make one of my double deck boom boxes
become speakers for my computer. Plus, it would allow me to record stuff off
my pc onto cassette. It's good for a boombox which does not have line in jacks
on it.

I haven't understood why it doesn't seem to be accessible. Once I click
on the artist, then the category and then the button for the station I
want, it plays fine.

I have found that if I use the up and down arrow along with tabbing, I
can get around just fine.

Now, the flash doesn't work real well. But, if I am curious about a
song that is playing, I click the button for the artist or the station
again and XM shows me what the artist is, the track and the album.

Now, my question is, why, on the weekends, do they play things that are
a week old but go live during the week.

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a
visual thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see
the entire channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly
enough. I wouldn't pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for
something I couldn't fully use. I would have gotten in touch with tech

What if I want to find, Deep Tracks, for instance? How do I find that?

Which screen reader are you using? If you are using jaws, it sounds like you
have flash movies turned off.
You'll want to go into verbosity settings with insert+v hit the letter f until
you hear flash movies, or something like that. If it's off, press space bar,
then tab to close.
Once flash movies is turned on, you should get the full player. You'll then
see all the buttons within the player.

Hi Doc,

Yeah, I had to do that too at first. The thing is I don't think all the
channels are available. I wonder if more channels will be available with
the paid subscription? I'm going to give them a call tomorrow. I hope I
can get the answers to my questions. I won't count on it. Have a good one.

I finally got it to work in a sense. I'm hoping the problem is only with
the free trial. I had to turn off the player, turn it back on in order to
 change stations.

 Kathy,
Yup, I had the same experience a few weeks ago when calling them ... the
only thing they did was to run through the minimum requirements checklist
and to assure that my login worked, duh! I'm wondering if it has
 something
to do with the fact that they have a flash player, which did not come
 up--I
guess it is assumed that everybody uses it. For what it's worth, I
 couldn't
get the Sirius player to work on the free trial either. For the people
 who
have, results seem to vary. I don't think it's a high priority for them
 to
get the web service working, they'd rather we all bought their receivers
 and
 had done with it.

 Susan

Re: Best software to burn a cd

2004-10-23 Thread Joy Tilton
I like the premier programming's cd creator, however, I noticed a wee bit of a bug,
and am not sure if it's a problem with it grabbing too much memory rouces or what,
but, I notice when it tells one how far along it is every 10 percent, the speech takes
a while to stutter out the percentage, for about 10 seconds or there-abouts.

Interestingly, I never could ever get nero to work and can't put it on
this computer because the IBM Record Now very emphatically says in the
read me that the program conflicts with nero and if we had nero on our
 computer to take it off.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone made a very simple to use recording studeo
cd ripper cd burner totally accessable?
Ok I'll go back to sleep and dream.

 Hi again!
To burn CDs I am using realplayer. But for that I need a subscription
and well that's kind of expensive and i'd like to get rid of it.
so, do you know any other software to burn a CD? like, take a mp3 or
ogg
files to put them on CDs?
I've never been able to work roxio out properly so if anyone knows of
something else that would not be that costly then I'm interested :)))

thanks alot for your kind answers

Re: dial pad on skipe

It does not allow one to do that. It would be nice if this was allowed. But,
apparently not. Yes, one can dial out no problem. But, I'm interested in being able
to access the dtmf function for touch tone access to menues and such.

Has anyone figured out how to access the dial pad on Skipe effectively? I
was told when reading the faq that one had to hold down
the left click for two seconds on a 0+ button to make the 0 turn into a
plus symbol thus acctivating the dtmf. owever, I do not see
a 0+ button on here. Also, are there any scripts for jaws to make skipe a
wee bit more accessible?

Re: real player question

2004-09-27 Thread Joy Tilton
Hi there. Well, I'm actually using Windows ME. Furthermore, I'm using the Sigate
personal firewall.
Yes, I do have real player accepting streams, since there are other sites I'm able to
access no problem. But, for some reason CSpan's java clip thingie seems to trip my pc
up.

How
much ram do you have? do you have Real player accepting internet streams?
Hope this helps

I have an interesting problem. Everytime I try to bring up a feed from
www.cspan.com, I get an illegal operation occuring every time. I tried
this
with Real 1, and it would freez up my computer. So, I installed real
alternative. Same bloody problem. Now, I no it can be accessed, because I
have someone accessing that site with Real player all the time no problem.
But, when I try it, I get the illegal operation, or my pc freezes.

I'm actually trying to access the on demand stuff from CSpan.

But will WMMP play real media files? I believe this is what I need, no
choices there. I'll try my ham radio computer this weekend when the time
comes too with windows 98, it will take a lot of upgrading to make it even
think about it but that might not be a bad idea. I don't think windows
media
player will work with realone subscriptions with the log in and stuff,
some
one correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd seriously doubt with what I want to
do,
 switching players is an option.

John, before you give up your subscription, you might want to consider
that as a rule of thumb, SP2 upgrades your security settings without
consulting you upon installation. Increased security is the primary
concern of this windows version. Whether you've changed security
settings
yourself or not, I would encourage you to open those settings in IE and
see if they're set according to your intentions. For instance, something
in settings was blocking me from playing Winamp files, with my screen
displaying exactly what you described seeing in your own case. A message
popped up telling me that in effect, Windows was protecting me for
myself.
Of course, it didn't say it in those words but the file was on my own
website. Conversely, Windows played the same file using Windows Media,
without so much as a gentle warning. I was also prevented from opening
email attachments after installing the program until I went in and
changed
that feature. So if you want to deal with as few security issues as
possible without the need to adjust settings, Windows Media would
probably
be your best bet. It is my experience that windows green lights it over
Real, Winamp, or anything else. I know that a lot of people in our group
are not happy with Real, but I really don't believe it's behind your
  problem here.

that but if I don't get it resolved this weekend I'll call anc cancel.
It's a shame though, no point fighting with Comcast though if it's on
their end, I've been that road though if it's the cable modem I can
replace that, I'm renting one and have thought about buying my own some
