adjusting microphone setings on the Astro Wireless A50

2013-01-15 Thread jason
Hi, I was wondering how do you get the microphone to be consistent when
setting the mic volume. Every time I just put the headsets on and
adjust the microphone, I always have to talk loud into the mic or move
the microphone close to my mouth in order for people to here me, is this
how the Astro Wireless headsets work, or do I need to turn on another
setting. When I don't speak loud enough into the microphone people say
they can't here me, when I test the microphone I noticed it gets loud at
times and then fades out. I hope I was able to explain my issue with
the astro wireless A50 microphone.

Yes I can and that's how I noticed the sensitivity of the microphone.

Some microphones are sensitive to placement.

Can you set listen to this device in recording settings? That will
let you listen to your voice as you use the headset. Make sure you
have headphones on and that it is playing through the sound card that
your headset is attached to.

Skype and some other programs have automatic volume controle. It
works well in Skype to level out those changes.

I have 2 recommendations I use a plantronics audio 995 series you plug
the dongle into the USB port and then you turn the headset on and it's
ready to go howeve wait a fewminutes when you first plug it so the
computer can recognize it. The only complaint I have about those
headsets when the battery dies you can talk or use the headset when
charging it, this headset also has a microphone so you can use it for
skype the cost was $100. The second headset I recommend is the Lodgatech
h800 they cost $120 and they also have a microphone in the headset
however you can also use it as a blue tooth headset for youe cellular
phone, and it also has a dongle with it hope this helps you and you can
talk while the head is charging.

Re: YouTube

2012-01-28 Thread Jason Custer

Hello,

Here are a couple of ideas, I hope one of them works for you.

If you are using jaws or window-eyes, you can find the graphic labeled seek
slider, arrow down to the next control. this is the mute button. If your
vid is playing, the seek slider will increase to 100 percent over time. If
muted, pressing enter on the mute button will toggle between unmuted and
muted.

There is a utility called Flash Mute, designed to mute flash on browsers.
The article speaks about use with window-eyes, but the info is applicable to
any screen reader. The app sits in the system tray and allows users to
mute/unmute with a hotkey, control-alt-M. This is an alternative if you
don't have jaws/window-eyes, or if you get sites that start playing audio as
soon as you load them. The site is:
http://www.gwmicro.com/blog/index.php/all/?title=take_control_of_flash_with_flash_mutemore=1c=1tb=1pb=1

With this intermittent working/not working symptom, and the privacy settings
alert, it sounds like you may be having troubles with an add-on, maybe
Google toolbar? Google comes to mind because they are currently updating
their privacy policy. Find the option which allows you to manage your
add-ons on the tools menu, any browser, and see what you have installed. You
can disable anything you don't use. I usually disable all the toolbars,
Google toolbar, aol toolbar, winamp toolbar, you get the point.

I hope this info helps you with the problem, silent movies are no fun..

Don't follow your logic doing the stuff with the browsing history and all.
In my recent experience I used (unsuccessfully) a web site to rip the audio
off a youtube posting and for some reason unknown to me all flash on any web
page stopped having any sound. Note all flash not just the flash videos on
youtube. In each case I could see the video was playing by the percent
counter which keeps on increasing as the video plays. Finally I found that
flash had been muted on my computer. There was an icon on the system tray
that said 'flash mute'. And it was checked. I had to get sighted assistance
to even tell me the check box on this icon was checked and she unchecked it
for me. that immediately solved the problem.

So first, pl check if you can't hear flash videos only on youtube or also at
any other website. This will help u isolate the problem to either just
youtube flash or not.
Next look around on the system tray our via the 'add/remove programs' list
( I use Windows 7) to spot anything that suggests flash mute and uncheck
that box.

Good luck and let us know what you find.---

the Expressionist Ultra which I've been talking about over the last
week or so.

The Expressionist ultra speakers are one of the very few sets of
speaker system for computer systems where the sound is All there,
the mid-range, the treble and certainly the bass and it appears that
no materr what volume you run this system at there's no distortion so
its obvious that the 5 digital amps in the system are doing their job
smile.

One thing that does annoy me about this system and its a very slight
annoyance is the subwoofer, its huge! standing 15 inches high, looks
more like a pollished wooden PC tower case so if big sub-woofers annoy
you then don't bother with this system.

Yep, Creative and other company's have offerings which are very well
reviewed but it will be up to other list members to comment on these
as I don't have experience with them.

As far as accessibility goes? Well in the case of the speaker systems
I've been discussing, w're talking speakers and not devices with
screens one cannot read smile.

1 control panel
1 3.5MM-3.5MM jack lead
1 manual
1 3.5MM socket to 2 RCA jack adapter

To the control panel, its round and consists of a number of controls.

As you'll see it looks like a mini witches hat, the hat itself turns
in either direction, you'll hear or feel it click as you turn it,
each time it clicks the faster the control.

For example by default the knob controls the volume, turn it to the
first click clockwise and the volume increases slowly, turn to the
next click and volume increase is more rapid and so on.

On the top of the controller are 3 buttons, 2 which are big and a
middle button which is small.

The upper of the 2 big buttons is your treble, press once and then
turn the knob to adjust treble.

The lower button is your bass, press once and then turn knob to
adjust base.

The smaller button in the middle is your power button, press once
to turn power on and press again to turn power off.

This button has another default, if held down for 3 seconds the
speakers are reset to their default volume, bass and treble settings.

Now their could be more options and settings I don't know about, I

Pairing Mono Bluetooth Audio Device With Ipod Touch

2011-11-21 Thread Jason Rufo
Greetings,
I'm seeking information about Bluetooth audio devices for use with a
generation 4 Ipod Touch running IOS 5.1. I would like to run a Bluetooth ear
piece strictly for the purposes of being able to hear voiceover through the
device for reviewing notes and additional information. To be more specific,
I'm not looking for a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones but rather a
single mono headphone like one would use with a Bluetooth enabled phone.

My research indicates this may work with a mono Bluetooth audio device
with A2DP support however, I've yet to confirm these findings. I'd be
grateful to know if anyone has had success pairing such a device for these
purposes. Further, if someone has done this, I'd also like to know the make
and model of the Bluetooth device that was used.

Thank's in advance for considering my post. I welcome any information
either on list or off.

Out of the three programs I think TapinRadio and RadioSure have the
largest database of stations to choose from. Mozekty has some good
features such as the ability to be self-voicing and use SAPI voices that
are on the computer. The two disadvantages of Mozekty are that it has a
very small selection of stations compared to the other two programs I've

hasn't been updated since 2008 but the program still works with those
two limitations.

Happy listening!

The audio drivers which were installed were downloaded form microsoft

Now I have a whole bunch of crackling in speakers even when using
certain keys on keyboard. Using microphone also causes crackling, but
music such as MP3 has no problems except when pressing keys to get to it.
I went to the system files and tried updating the audio drivers, but
came back with message that proper drivers were installed.
If this is a sound card or driver issue, any thoughts? Or, what may be

Re: Converting vhs to dvd

How much does this software cost?

On 10/9/2010 3:02 PM, John, Siobhan and retired guide dog iris wrote:

Hi vicky the software and hardware details are below.

VCR2PC. but the software calls it VHS2PC. but does the same thing.
it is a video player like you have at home with the tv but the only
exception it has a USB port to connect to the computer.

it uses a program called. Ion Easy converter. and the video is made by
a company called

Ion.
it is windows 7 and windows vista and xp supported for drivers.
very easy to install.
for a while I was wanting my sighted partner to click on the buttons,
convert etc. but recently was playing with it and found there are
short cuts that work but not in the normal way example.
to get to the convert button that takes you on to the video monitor so
you can preview what you want to record before recording as you can
watch it in live play before recording as well.
to get to the convert button, would be difficult without the short
cuts as the hole interface isn't blind friendly.

so to get to the convert button you have to do the following.
Alt+C. this puts you on the convert button, then you have to press enter.
this takes you in to the video monitor screan. as previously said.
now just put your video in and press play on the video. now your
screan behaves like a normal tv. but in a small box whilst streaming
through the program. when you want to record anything playing just
find the place on the tape.

then press spacebar.
now your in the title box. delete what's in the box, normally it says,
title here.

now type what you want to record the name for it.
now it is easier. when your ready to record just press.
Alt+R. followed by enter.
now this starts recording. to stop recordingv.press.
alt+S. it will ask you to conferm that you want to stop recording. now
press Alt+Y. then enter.

now it is saved. and the default place it saves is, my video's
and when you open it you can use any program that plays video. I think
off the top of my head it can save as AVI or MPG. don't try and play
MPG in windows media player as windows media player won't do it.
winamp loves these types of files.
don't have a moddle number to hand at the moment but they only do one
type that does it

hi all, i've always had 2 sound cards on this system, the onboard one -
realtek hd audio output, and a soundblastercard i put in myself. jfw has
always been on the onboard card so i can use the other for music etc. i had
to have the whole system reformatted and windows reinstalled recently, and
now i cannot get jfw to put itself on the onboard sound card as before.
nothing has changed with the system and i've double and tripple checked i'm
putting the right info in the jfw.ini file as i've always done. i've tried
it with jfw 8, 9 and 11, and none of them will use the onboard realtek hd
audio output card as they used to.
i'm not sure if this may be regarded as a jfw problem or a soundcard
problem, so email me off list if it's regarded as not pc audio related. the
onboard card is working as it was in use before i put the sb card backin
after the reformat/reinstall.

any ideas what may be the problem?

You can still use the switch sound file convertor meaning converting
files you just can't use the extra features that come with it you can
still use the convertor. You won't however be able to use the ripper
the sound stream nor other features that come with the program, accept
the convertor. I hope this helps.

I know how to use that method, but it only does one track at a time. I know
there is a way to select all the files in your playlist and then to right
click one of the files, down arrow to send to, and hit enter, and then down
arrow to autotag. It will open up a dialog just for autotaging. I can't
winamp to select more than one track at a time.

Later versions of win amp have it. You basically hit alt 3 and then
shift tab past ok and enter or space bar on autotag and then hit ok when
done. You can also tab and make sure it has labeled it correctly in some
fields. There is a way to autotag many files and it tells yu how to when
you do alt 3.

Re: Do Listers Really Use Klango 3X

2010-05-15 Thread jason
Hey I use klango on my computers both the netbook and desktop and I
find it easy to use you juat have to hit your arrows keys alt to open
menus and enter to launch them. The features in klango are self
explanatory for example when you just sitting in the program I hit the
alt key and it brings options such as klango media programs files
setting etc so I hit enter on one of those lets say let hit enter on
klango then options pop up such as messages, blogs, contacts, or klango
points etc then you choose one of those by moving your left and right
arrows keys it's just like a tree view and menus and submenus anyway let
choose messages hit enter on that then you going to have option such as
received sent etc you can hit right arrow for sent or left arrow for
received and then hit enter on it. Then you can up and down arrow threw
the messages and hit enter on them to reply to messages you can hit the
tab key to navigate threw those options. if you just want to send them a
private messages then you have to hit escape to get out of received
messages hit alt key go to the option klango then arrow to contacts hit
enter on them use up and down arrows to navigate threw your contacts you
get my idea now just play around with it and for your speech problem
just hit your alt key arrow to you here and then hit enter and it will
bring up more options on what you want to do one of those option is
sending a private message. You get my idea now. for your speech problem
just hit alt key then you arrow to settings then you enter on speech
synthesis and then you can set your voice there you have to find englesh
Then after when you choose speech synthesis you hae to choose what voice
you want to change the main voice is the voice what you here threw out
the program the content voice is the voice what reads your forms
messages and other items to you. Anyway after you choose what voice you
want to change then choose a synthesizer you have to choose English US
and then you choose a voice and ager you do that then just hit enter ok
then everything should be set hope this helps you take care now and have
a good day. a

  Hi all,

The first update for SkypeTalking 0.8 has just been released, and it
contains the following changes:
* Added new languages: Arabic, Finnish and Serbian.
* Added a command for reporting caller name, Alt+Ctrl+Shift+N by
default. It works during a call or at the moment when someone is calling.
* SAPI5 now works better with SkypeTalking. One of the things that you
will notice is that SAPI5 speech is now interrupted when releasing
another SkypeTalking command, so for example when reading messages you
no longer have to wait one message to be spoken in order to hear the
another one.
* Echoing of SkypeTalking keystrokes that becomes annoying with screen
reader such as JAWS has been prevented, since JAWS is echoing all of the
keystrokes that are not assigned to it's scripts unless it's keyboard
echo is set to None.
* Better displaying of language names in Settings Dialog/Language
ComboBox.

RE: NLS CARTRIDGES

2010-04-15 Thread Jason Boston
The only limit on a thumb drive that works is the size of the thumb drive.
Each book from the library is a different size. So if you add up the size of
x number of books and that size is still less than your thumb drive, then
all those you added up will fit. I've had 14 books on one 8 gig thumb drive
and still had about 4 gigs left.

attach to your PC although any USB extension cable, that will fit the
cartridge, will work.

Also, I think the blank cartridge will hold as many books as you can fit on
2G. I've had 5 myself plus a handful of MP3 files. I've had more than that
on a 16G USB flash drive, so I don't think there's any limit at four.

 Hello all list members,
For anyone that wants to know, you can put up to 4 books on a 2 GB NLS

But the people at your library, will tell you that you can only put 1 book

 on them.
I found that, not to be true.

Is anyone aware of an open source solution that will allow me to convert a

I am not looking for something I have to pay for, as I just want to listen

make use of the digital player that I carry with me anyway.

I prefer open source, as I use only the Linux operating system, but a
Windows solution is better than nothing.

I am utterly ignorant regarding the N L S format, so if someone is willing
to take time to summarize the format used or provide a good link for
self-learning, I'd be equally thankful.

Thanks in advance.

Can you select folders within iPod to play instead of going through a
library? That's the feature I like best about rockbox. I can play all

It doesn't compare because both are based on completely different
principles.

The Ipod Forth Generation nano uses voice tags whereas Rockbox uses TTS.
Each system has its advantages and disadvantages, for instance you get
the title, artist and so on of a particular song announced on your Ipod
Forth Generation word by word - example: Dean Martin - Everybody Loves
Somebody Sometimes whereas this information is spelt out letter by
letter.

You also have more options over what kind of speech you want, this is
set from the computer you're connecting the Ipod with whether that be a
Mac or Windows system, with Rockbox I found it very difficult to find a
good speech engine to my liking, I did find one in the end though others
were just too fast for my liking.

The only problem I've struck with the Ipod Forth Generation Nano is that
some of its applications such as time/date alarm and the like are
completely unusable but again, that's what you expect to happen if
you're using voice tags, the menus all speak however.

We're up to the Ipod Fifth generation now and that unit has Voiceover
built-in to it so in other words, the Ipod Nano Fifth Generation has a
Built-in Screen Reader so its completely customisable. I don't know
even if you can buy an Ipod Nano Forth Generation now can you? I have
one here and I wouldn't give it up for quits I can tell you, well not at
least until I get my Iphone next week - if they haven't sold out in the
meantime smile -'

Opinions on this vary. Many on this list claim to have adjusted very
well to typing, and say it is no problem. I personally find it
cumbersome, but I can certainly do it, and the advantages of the device
are many. Note that I'm using an iPhone, and it has some advantages the
iPod doesn't have.

Hi!

Here's a summary of the accessibility features and functions found on
the new Ipod Touch as taken from the Apple Web Site.

Vision
iPod touch includes a screen reader and other innovative accessibility
features that make it easier to use for those with impaired vision.
VoiceOver

The same VoiceOver screen reader made popular on the Mac and the
iPhone is now a standard feature on iPod touch (3rd generation). It's
the world's first gesture-based screen reader, enabling you to enjoy
the fun and simplicity of iPod touch even if you can't see the screen.
What makes VoiceOver on iPod touch remarkable is that you control it
using simple gestures that let you physically interact with items on
the screen. It's easy to learn and fun to use. Instead of memorizing
hundreds of keyboard commands or endlessly pressing tiny arrow keys to
find what you're looking for, with VoiceOver you simply touch the
screen to hear a description of the item under your finger, then
gesture with a double-tap, drag, or flick.
VoiceOver delivers an experience unlike any screen reader you've used
before. Traditional screen readers describe individual elements on the
screen, but struggle to communicate where each element is located or
provide information about adjoining objects. This contextual
information is very important but typically filtered out by other
screen readers. For example, off-screen models used by traditional
screen readers to represent applications and web pages intentionally
strip away contextual information and describe web pages as a list or
menu of items. But with VoiceOver on iPod touch, you'll experience
something entirely new.
Because VoiceOver works with the touchscreen, you interact directly
with objects on the screen and can understand their location and
context. So, when you touch the upper-left corner of the screen,
you'll hear what's in the upper-left corner of a web page, and as you
drag your finger around the screen, you'll learn what's nearby,
providing an amazing new sense of context and relationships between
the items you hear. For many, VoiceOver on iPod touch will provide,
perhaps for the first time, a true sense of not only how things appear
on the screen, but also descriptions of what they are. You'll hear
descriptions of every item, including status information such as
battery level, Wi-Fi signal levels, and time of day. iPod touch even
lets you know when the display changes to landscape or portrait, and
when the screen is locked or unlocked.
The speaking rate is adjustable so you can set it to a speed that best
suits your listening ability. VoiceOver uses distinctive sound effects
to alert you when an application opens, when the screen is updated,
when a message dialog appears, and more. And when VoiceOver is
talking, the volume of background sounds and music is automatically
lowered, ducking under the voice, so you can clearly hear what
VoiceOver is telling you.

It Speaks Your Language
VoiceOver includes built-in voices that speak over 21 languages
including Bahasa Indonesian, Chinese (Cantonese), Chinese (China),
Chinese (Taiwan), Dutch, English (U.S.), English (UK), English
(Australian), Finnish, French (Canada), French (France), German,
Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese
(Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish
(Mexico), Spanish (Spain), Swedish, Thai, and Turkish.
Getting Started
VoiceOver is built into iPod touch (3rd generation). There's nothing
extra to purchase or install. All you need is iPod touch, iTunes 9

screen reader like VoiceOver (included in Mac OS X) or GW-Micro Window-
Eyes for Windows XP and Windows Vista (sold separately). When you
activate iPod touch using iTunes, you can enable VoiceOver to start
using it right away. Or a sighted user can enable VoiceOver for you
directly on iPod touch using the Accessibility menu in the Settings
application.
How It Works
With VoiceOver enabled, you'll use a different but simple set of

Hello, I'm using Sound Forge 9 right now. It's been about nine years since
I used the voice over options, specifically the one where the music lowers
in response to the voice on another file. Where do I find this option
again, and how do I go about it? I need a refresher course. Also, is it
possible to render just the files separately, such as getting the
processed music file with the volume drop in music, but not the voice? I'm
not sure if the music file could then be used with other voice files,
since the volume drop depends on the specific qualities and volume of the
voice that was used in the first place. So direction on this would be
helpful.

Thanks a lot.

Voiceover is also a term for overlaying voice over a piece of music. It is
also a screenreader for the Mac, but that's not what Mr. Matthew Bullis is

Yes, now I know it's the play list and not explorer I'm trying to deal
with.
BTW do you know why the play list is now unreadable in JFW? It use to be
readable, but I don't know when that stopped. I don't visit the play
list often since I usually load play lists from a m3u file or context
menu via explorer.

Unfortunately, this is in the play list context menu. I have not had the
best success with the play list and jaws with winamp, so I don't use
this feature via the context menu much. it is a bit different, and has
some good options if you find a successful way to navigate the playlist
window.

Hopefully, this helps.

I'm not exactly sure how to ask this, but I'm hoping to get some pointers
to more information and some advice. My son is asking for a turntable for
his birthday. I assumed it was to access music he can only find on vinyl,
but he says it's for higher sound quality than he can get off of CD's or
MP3's.

I still have the component based stereo system I built when I was younger,
which currently includes a receiver, DVD player and DVR. I retired my
turntable and VCR a while ago. I would not be surprised if such a system,
with high quality components, could produce better sound than you'd get
off of a PC or portable media player.

I guess I'm wondering a couple of things. Is this true that you can get
better sound quality out of a high fidelity system than you can from a PC
or portable media player? If so, how would you go about building such a
system today? Would you do what I did years ago and start assembling your
components? Could I get him a nice turntable that he could hook up to his
PC for now and then include in a component based stereo system down the
road?

Thanks for any advice or pointers people could provide me. I haven't
started looking around on the web, but I'm assuming I'd be overwhelmed
with the amount of information out there on such a topic.

Subject: my initial impressions of the turtle Beach Audio Advantage SRM

A while ago, I had asked about buying an external sound card, and I
eventually chose the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage SRM.
This card is tiny, weighing in only a few ounces, and it kind of looks
like a cigarette lighter at first glance.
It has 4 audio jacks 2 on each end of the card, the ones I've paid the
most attention to are the microphone, and the headphone jack, which are on
the same end.

This card also sports 2 stereo mics, a green LED light that blinks when
audio is present, and stays solid when none is playing. So if you have
some usable sight this might take a bit of getting used to.

I have a set of speakers hooked up to the card which handles my music and
windows sounds, and I have Window-eyes 7.01 routed to my laptop's internal
Sigmatel card. So I now have 2 sets of speakers instead of one. This
allows me to have more control over the volume of each one.
I have 2 volume controls to use now, but if I want to hear the speech over
the music more, it's easier for me, because I can keep the music at the
same level now.

As far as instalation goes, I had another friend of mine helping me, and
we learned a somewhat valuable lesson that I'm sure most people probably
know either through just being technically savvy, or having the same
experience we had. If you're going to install this card, be sure to hook
the card *directly* into your laptop or desktop's USB ports, do not use a
USB hub. If you do, the driver's won't install properly, because the card
can't draw enough power. The card is recognized, but not to the same
point as it would be via a regular straight USB connection. So make sure
you have a free USB port handy.
To install it, we first inserted the cd that came with the card. If
you're using window-eyes, you'll have to use your mouse pointer, numpad
plus pressed twice, and then you use your numpad 2 and 8 keys to arrow
down to where it says setup. At that point, press your left mouse button
and the software will install. Then, when prompted, please insert the
cable into the card, and the other end into the USB port.

You may lose speech after pressing yes at this point, but this can be
fixed. It's a good bet that the card is now active, so what you'll need
to do is plug a pare of headphones or speakers into the headphone jack. If
you hear speech, you're good to go. The headphone jack is located on the
top right handside of the card, you'll feel a circular sort of socket or
plug with ridges, and just to the right of that, that's your headphone
jack. The jack to the left of that one is your microphone jack. When you
plug a headset mic or any other mic into that jack, the stereo mics on the
card itself are muted, so for the least confusing results, I would say you
might want to have something plugged into that jack all the time.

Initially, the software tried to install the necessary driver for the card
to function properly, but I had to reboot a couple of times to get the
process to work properly. Hey, I'm new to this and it was a learning
experience. So the driver installed and all, at this point, seems to be
working well. As for the SRM control pannel program, it is definitely
not very speech friendly, not without a lot of mousing around. and even
then, some of the screens look mighty confusing. So the best way to
customize things is to probably stick to using the regular Windows volume
control. That will allow ou to set things how you want them. Overall,
I'm very pleased with the card! The install was a bit touch and go
because, as I said we weren't sure why things weren't working but after I
remembered that I had been using a hub, and I plugged the card directly
into my laptop USB port, that's when things vastly improoved. Hope this
helps anyone looking to buy a card like this. Hopefully it'll help you
avoid any pitfalls along the way and you'll have your new card up and
running in ono time!

Yes I have used KBPiano for a few years. Now I can't comment on how well
it

will work with Jaws but I use it just fine with win-eyes. First make sure
you are in the main window of the program.
There is a music creator window but that window is not speech friendly so
you want to be in the untitled window. Lets now type control-p which will
put the program in practice mode. Press notes on the bottom of the
keyboard

and see if you hear sound. Press escape to cancel this window. If no sound
is heard lets press The letter p and that will bring up a patch list where
you select the instruments you'd like. This should at least get you
started

Dean but if you need more help Please drop me email and I'll help you.

RE: Goldwav, batch conversions, and shaky output

2009-02-02 Thread Jason Boston
Dean,
Thanks, and that's exactly what I do. The problem is the shaky output I
get. I can't figure out why though, because it doesn't happen all the
time.

Any more hints or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

This is an integral feature of Goldwave. From the file menu, choose
Batch processing. You first add files to the batch on the conversion
tab, then, on that same tab, choose the format and quality you want to
convert to. It works very well.

Hi all,
I'm trying to use goldwav to convert files from one byt rate to a lower
byt rate to save space. I keep the hz at the same level when converting.
Say the source files are 128 byt 44100hz then the output will be 32 byt
and 44100hz
However, since these files are just audio books I expect the degredation
of sound quality to be minimaul, however the smaller files sometimes,
but not all the time, come out shaky. Any idea what I can do to fix this
problem?

So since this is the new standard conversions, is the mp3 file still going
to be used widely for a file extension, or is it going to go away. what
does the 3gp stand for? Also is this 3gp just used for apple players or mac
computers? and how rich does it sound. Does it sound better than an mp3 or
does the sound quality sound the same?

I never heard of this file extension before, but my first hit on google.com
lead me to http://filext.com/file-extension/3GP, where it said:

3GPP and 3GPP2 are the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery
and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless
networks.
Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and 3rd Generation
Partnership Project 2 respectively, these standards seek to provide
uniform delivery
of rich multimedia over newly evolved, broadband mobile networks (3rd
generation networks) to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless devices.
3GPP and
3GPP2 are based on the MPEG-4 standard which was derived from Apple's
QuickTime. QuickTime 6.5 includes support for key components of the 3GPP
and 3GPP2

specifications. The Macintosh type is: 3GPP

So obviously, quicktime will play 3GP files. A little bit of checking
revealed that quite a few of the audio/video converters will handle 3GP
files including Switch and Replay Converter, the two that I'm familiar
with.

I can't answer most of your questions, but here are my thoughts.

First, I consider phrases like world wide standard to be more of a
marketing statement than anything else. Next, MP3 has been superseded by
several superior specifications in the past, and it's still around, so I
don't expect it to go away any time soon. The 3G in 3GP seems like it
would stand for 3rd Generation as in the 3G high speed mobile network.
I'm guessing 3GP stands for 3rd Generation Partnership Project.
Quicktime runs on Windows and the conversion utilities I mentioned run
on Windows, so I don't think it's a Mac only specification. Furthermore,
it was intended for mobile devices. Finally, I can't speak to the sound
quality, but since it's intended for mobile devices and to be
transmitted over 3G networks, I'm guessing there's some trade off
between size and sound quality.

and does a great job of splitting files into any desired length of segments.

Hi all,
Does anyone know of a good freeware program that will automatically
split audio files into equal parts? I like the option of by time or
number of parts. I have goldwav, but I see no way to have goldwav mark
the file into equal parts and then split into individual files. I know I
can manually mark the points in which to split, but I have several files
I wish to split into about 100 parts and don't want to manually mark all
of those.

Thanks,
