I had the same issue with my K-50 a few years ago (my thread on PDML:
K50 - Aperture Motor Failure?).
I wound up getting it fixed for $100 (if I remember correctly). It
worked for about 18 months and then acted up again. I wound up buying
My K-50 has been acting up lately (again) and I figured I would look
at the current options for a replacement.
Anyone have inside information if/when Pentax will be updating their
line of cameras?
The K-70 will be 4 years old this year
The KP is 3 years old
The K1 II is out of my price range

camera prices for Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony.

My quest for a new lens (I was looking at the 17-70 f/4) has taken a turn.
One of my local brick and mortar's has put up a used Pentax 16-50/2.8
AF-DA* (as well as a Pentax 50-135/2.8 AF-DA*). Both are in excellent
to mint condition.
I'm itching to pull the trigger on the 16-50, it's a little
equivalent as
well. Good reports on those, but I think they're both 2.8 versus 4
with a price difference to consider.

I currently use and older version of Photoshop Elements (v5) to
post-process my images. It works and I've been happy with it.
I currently don't use the Organizer that is paired with the
application. My organization is all in my head (I separate images by
month/year). I don't have any tagging,
My K100D is running itself into the ground. There is something wrong
with the viewfinder that I can't fix (hard to see through, something
inside the viewfinder itself). Pictures still come out great,
although some hot pixels here and there.
I think I can start to scrape together some funds for
I recently started to read Passionate Photographer by Steve Simon
and got to wondering what others have as favorite photography related
books.
I'm more interested in techniques, picture taking processes and
history versus how-to's or picture books.

Yes, it is a Pontiac Silver Streak. The owners weren't around and no
sign showing the year. Probably the early 50's is my best guess.
The sun reflection can be cloned out (rushed the PP and didn't work
out all of the imperfections).

Thanks for the replies.
The camera itself is in fine working order. It's just that I've
recently seen more and more hot pixels (and they're really not that
bad, just usually right where I don't need them). I normally shoot
JPG and do minimum PP via an older version of Photoshop Elements.

Here's a review of the next stable release (2.8) of GIMP. From the
article, it's tentatively slated for a December 2010 release.
The big new feature in this version will be single window mode. I
always found it difficult to work with when I tested it, various

Been working on decisions for my PDML Book entries, not an easy task
(down to 7, getting outside opinions). I have to say, the pictures
from last year are outstanding and I can only hope in my wildest
dreams to be half as good as the work presented there.

Just sending an update - I did a little recon and found that the
ceiling at the venue is vaulted and 20+ feet, too high for a standard
bounce.
I had checked the Vivitar 285HV and the voltage issue isn't an issue.

I've been nominated (not at my request) to take pictures at a end of
year dinner for my daughters softball team. I did something similar
about 15 years ago with an older setup I no longer have (theft).
Since then, things have changed, yet things remain the same.

For the most part I crop most of my shots as 4x6 for basic printing
for myself and family. Every now and then I take it up to 5x7 or even
8x10. Now each of these has a different ratio so it's usually a
separate process for each shot (versus printing a

One reason I print 4x6 is to keep in a standard album. Stuff like
vacations, kid's sports, etc. When I shoot the kids sports, I tend to
take shots of other kids as well and I like to hand out prints to the
parents. Going larger tends to increase

packs...could this be a move to be followed by other companies?

It's been a crazy week, sorry for the delay in responding.
First and foremost, thanks for all the comments and kudos. I'm
critical of my own work and always feel that nothing is good enough

Well, it's all over...I did OK, but I think with more experience in
the element of the gym I would probably do better.
I shot RAW with the 50/1.4 the whole time and also used the flash - I
couldn't get enough light to stop the wrestlers.

I have run PSE5 (with the patch) on a Vista machine without issue. I
don't recall if I loaded PSE5 and then the patch or PSE5, run the
program and then realize the patch was available.
Either way, I don't do much PSE on the Vista machine, but it does work.

Just wanted to introduce myself (again). I was once a subscriber to PDML
back a few years when I was shooting film with my Pentax PZ20. Then I made
the switch to digital (a Sony S85). I spent about 3 years or so with that.
