Not a bad method - it works. Stefan didn't reach the pain level. Quite the contrary: he improved, hence no operation necessary - always a good thing. Do it enough times to get any oxidation off of the contacts underneath. And also run the exposure compensation ring back and forth, too, while you're at it. May as well run the aperture simulator a few times as well. On the LX it is as prone to cause exposure problems as the ISO resistor, I expect this is the same situation on other Pentax bodies. Remember that 6 vs 8 Mpixels is an area measurement, not a linear measurement. If they stay with the 2x3 aspect ratio, approximately 2450 pixels x 3675 pixels. What I mean is that you the the 18-55 package but someone else's glass label. That's not Pentax, except perhaps for the package. And that's not a significant photo product by any streach. And why buy Pentax glass given the popularity of the Schneider name? Old-timers know Schneider from the Kodak days (whether Retina or even the first 126 bodies, let alone the digitals) and it's known in LF (it's definitely the best in that arena, though a bit pricey). Pentax has become a relatively- unknown entity in these circles. Comparatively, that is. This might very easily backfire. I don't want it to backfire, but it won't be any surprize. Pentax has become a relatively- unknown entity in these circles. Comparatively, that is. What popularity of the Schneider name? Pentax has had continuous product in the consumer marketplace. Schneider is, by comparison, relatively unknown, a brand name that is now being put onto cameras made by consumer electronic companies in an attempt to have a little cachet value, since they have no brand recognition in the camera business. I think you'll find that the old timers either know the Pentax brand as very high quality lenses, or they have already died of old age. It would be unfortunate if Pentax ended up being a third party consumer lens supplier, with their lenses being rebadged with another name, but if it gave them the capital required to continue producing high quality lenses with their own name on the nameplate, then I can live with that. Re: Pentax body but not glass? (was Re: Samsung GX-1L?)
Interesting. You know, I only care about Pentax because that's the mount of the lenses I have. As long as the lenses are good, and relatively state-of-the-art bodies are introduced that will take those lenses, I couldn't care less what name is in them. If, say, Cosina introduced a 12MP K mount digicam I would be all for it. Pentax has many advantages, like ergonomics, small size, great lenses. But their logo is not one of them. If the Schneider lenses are rebadged FAs, Pentax still gets the money for making them, making them able to stay in the business. If not, that will mean someone else is making K mount lenses. Sounds win-win to me, unless you just care about the name. j On 12/22/05, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: What I mean is that you the the 18-55 package but someone else's glass label. Re: Meter adjustment of ME
I have brand new batteries of proper type, and have run the aperture resistor and ISO resistor around quite a bit, no change. Watching the meter while making those adjustments shows quite linear change in shutter speeds, not jumping around like I'd expect if it was corroded. I believe I've either got to use 4x exposure compensation all the time, set the ISO for similar effect, or take it apart and see if I can adjust it back close to correct. On a side note, I'm most impressed by the ME SE body, even after using an LX for over a year now. True it doesn't have all the wonderful bells and whistles of the LX, but it's so TINY! The one I've got is in such very nice condition too, aside from this meter issue. Happy Christmas to all!
Since this is my last opportunity before going away for the Christmas break - I'd like to wish all PDML-ers and their families a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Looking forward to more puns, flames, esoteric information and plain old Pentax stuff in 2006! Regards to all John Coyle Brisbane, Australia
Re: Meter adjustment of ME
These camera are old enough that some adjustments are inevitable. I have a couple of ME Supers, one silver, one black that I am very fond of. In some ways, I like the ME Super more than the LX, of which I like enough to own three of. William Robb I sold my ME Super to a list member in a moment of stupidity or generosity. The first 35mm camera I used was a K1000. That made me go into the camera shops and lust after the ME Super which I could not afford. The first 35mm body I owned was an MX. Tom C.
