Yeah, off topic. Nevertheless, just to take this example, returning the lands
claimed, even after adjudication, would at this time be awkward in a number of
respects. It seems unnecessary, however, to characterize the decisions as
“silly.” Especially given the fact of the genocide committed on native
Americans by people coming from Europe. We would do well to reflect on that
fact and on what justice might require as a response.

The Europeans were invaders -- or immigrants-- depending on one's perspective.
In some instances they were tolerated and perhaps even welcomed. In other
places they were slaughtered. It's not as simple as the PC community would have
us believe. In any case, the more we can do for native Americans the better.
But we're not going to return Manhattan island.

Re: PESO - Fifty for the Flag - Happy Canada Day!

2015-07-04 Thread P.J. Alling
Well in the second list, Cuba gets an A, Puerto Rico gets a B??? They
are essentially the same flag with reversed colors. Liberia's flag
which is a copy of the US flag get's a B the U.S. flag gets a C?
Because it has too many stars??? So I guess plagiarism pays.

Flags are not pure design exercises, there are a lot of criteria that
makes a flag good, and being easy for a 5 year old to draw isn't one of
them. The Canadian flag is pretty good as flags go, and serves it's
purpose admirably.

So I moved into sheltered areas. My Tamron SP 90 (f 2.5) macro has a smallish

I concentrated on mist-laden plants and saw this one:

Closest I can get to it on the K3, and I expect the K5 to be similar, is
to set EV steps to 1/2 stop, auto bracketing to plus/minus 1/2 stop, and
use a 3 shot bracket in TV with locked ISO. This forces the camera to
vary the aperture.
I suspect with the ability to recover from slightly off exposures with
these cameras, that one could go plus or minus perhaps as much as a stop
and adjust the exposure in post.

Yeah, off topic. Nevertheless, just to take this example, returning the lands
claimed, even after adjudication, would at this time be awkward in a number
of respects. It seems unnecessary, however, to characterize the decisions as
“silly.” Especially given the fact of the genocide committed on native
Americans by people coming from Europe. We would do well to reflect on that

the aperture but adjust shutter or ISO to compensate, so that overall
exposure is the same?

Well said, Frank.

I'm not even sure why Bipin posted this now. Apart from being wildly
off topic (nothing wrong with that but we try to avoid politics,
religion etc - see the FAQ - and the post should have been labelled
O.T.), the entire issue dates from 2010-2012.

President Obama's announcement on December 16, as linked by Bipin, was
December 16 2010 and James Alaya's report was May 2012. This is not
exactly 'breaking news'.

acknowledged by the United States Supreme Court itself. Compensation was
offered, but the Lakota people have refused to take the money because of
the significance that the Black Hills hold for them. And what I’ve said
is that that issue should be addressed and that ways should be explored
by which control or a reconnection, some kind of restoration, should
occur—could occur, by which the Lakota people could have a greater access
to the Black Hills, be more present there, and that place represent again
a part of the people, the Lakota people, as opposed to simply
representing their defeat and the negative side of history. Now, I haven’t
said anything about Mount Rushmore. Mount Rushmore could stay
under federal control, or it could be part of a joint management between
the federal government and the Lakota people. There are all kinds of
possibilities. I’ve simply said that this matter needs to be looked at as
part of the reconciliation that Congress itself says needs to take
 place.

Thanks. June is a nice time to be in France, before the sun burns everything
brown.

Leonardo spent his last years at the chateau Clos Luce as the guest of the
king, in return for his company and conversation. The beautiful grounds are
full of models of his inventions, including the tank.

http://www.leonardodavincisinventions.com/war-machines/leonardo-da-vincis-tank/

There is also a model in the house of Leonardo's bicycle, now known to be a
faked sketch, although there's nothing on or near the model to tell you that.

Yeah, off topic. Nevertheless, just to take this example, returning the
lands claimed, even after adjudication, would at this time be awkward in a
number of respects. It seems unnecessary, however, to characterize the
decisions as “silly.” Especially given the fact of the genocide committed on
native Americans by people coming from Europe. We would do well to reflect
on that fact and on what justice might require as a response.

dish called Truffade which could be proto-poutine. It's made from
sautéed potatoes mixed with cheese (no gravy) and formed into patties.
It's very nice. Gravy of course is mere millimetres away. If you're
having your truffade with a steak and a bit of sauce, well there you
have it all.

Aligot, which is mashed potatoes and cheese, seems to be a close
relation, and is very nice with sausages in onion gravy.

I do recall that one criteria mentioned at the time our flag was being decided
upon was drawability. Something simple and easy for schoolkids to draw was
desirable. Makes sense to me.

Of course these lists can be silly but are fun, and if nothing else spark
debate and discussion.

Thanks for sharing!

One thing that I haven't figured out how to do efficiently with rsync is for
it to track when I move a directory.

I will upload photos into a generic (for this half of the year) directory,
then move that shoot into a monthly directory. So as far as I can tell
rsync will either give me two copies, or will have to copy, delete, recopy
at least once for every photo.

[Sorry for replying one month late, I'm shovelling through the mail queue.] :)

rsync does know how to find moved files, if one uses **twice** the
`--fuzzy` option plus the `--copy-dest` and the `--delete-after`
options.

Basically, with your workflow, assuming you have an `inbox` folder
where you throw your current photos, all you need to specify is
`--copy-dest inbox`.

(Needless to say I haven't tested this, but according to the
documentation it does what you want.)

Ciprian.

P.S.: If you are already using rsync, perhaps you should throw a look
at `rdiff-backup`.

Yeah, it's just barely off his head here. In some shots it's flying off, but
there were issues with each of those that make them unusable.

The whole backwards cap thing is silly. Except if you have a flash on top of
your camera. Which Mike clearly doesn't have here. Maybe he's worried about sun

So I moved into sheltered areas. My Tamron SP 90 (f 2.5) macro has a
smallish recessed front element and relatively deep hood so it was
well-protected from the mist.

I concentrated on mist-laden plants and saw this one:

No big whoop but kind of cool, I think. It was actually a fun day in
