The two top brands for home users in my opinion are the Minolta Dimage
series and the Nikons.
I've owned both. They both have nice twain interfaces, and both have option
that includes interface cards.
You want something faster than USB 1.0, becuase a hi-res scan can produce
30+ megabyte

There is a rewind function on the pz-1p dial, where you can force it to
rewind by going to it and spinning the rear dial. This probably would have
worked.

I have a PZ-1p that took a nasty fall!
Cracked the upper part right near the front dial and broke out the shutter
button.
My 5 year warranty doesn't cover the effects of gravity, so going to have

If you were to say get the Tamron autofocus 2x 7 element, it would work
fine. The autofocus ones pass the connections through to the lens, so if
you later got a 28-70 2.8f Autofocus or a FA 50/1.4, they would autofocus

The is one well known Sears lens, a 135mm that had a true macro feature,
otherwise they are all just average 3rd party lenses.
