[PHP] images no appearing

2001-09-24 Thread Adrian D'Costa

Hi,

I wrote a php script to create a dynamic graph (image/jpeg). On my
development system the image appears on my website it gives Image/Jpeg
support not compiled.

Below are the config settings:

My system:
Configure Command ^@ './configure' '--prefix=/usr'
 ^@'--with-config-file-path=/etc' '--disable-debug'
 ^@'--enable-pic' '--enable-inline-optimization'
 ^@'--enable-sockets' '--with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs'
 ^@'--disable-static' '--with-exec-dir=/usr/bin'
 ^@'--with-regex=system' '--with-gd'
 ^@'--with-jpeg-dir=/usr' '--with-png' '--with-gdbm'
 ^@'--enable-debugger' '--enable-magic-quotes'
 ^@'--enable-safe-mode' '--enable-track-vars'
 ^@'--enable-ftp' '--with-mysql' '--with-xml'
 ^@'--enable-trans-sid'
 ^@'--with-readline=/usr/include/readline'

My webserver the info can be got from vvmm.net/phpinfo.php.

They my provider has given --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/lib still the image does
not appear. Even in the gd section it does not give JPG Support
enabled. Only give. Right now I have changed the program to work with
gif. My question, why not Jpg??

 i could roll my own, and for now will just use a str_replace after
ucwords,
 but would it be possible to add an optional parameter to ucwords which
would
 be an array of words to skip? i would think this would be useful to
 many.

that sounds like a good idea to me.

Well, if you think about it for a minute, you'll realise that it _does_
go to lists.php.net (handled by pb1.pair.com). But then what happens?
Your message is sent to every address on the PHP mailing list, and still
has your address as the From address. So, not surprisingly, your message
is sent to the list subscriber whose address is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and the reply from there goes to - guess
who? The From address on the incoming message.

Odds are someone (dtt?) has screwed up the permissions on their mailbox.

Incidentally, there is a list admin address in the footer of every
message from the PHP list; that's where you should report this sort of
thing; then the list admin can quietly unsubscribe the offender.

[PHP] Re: PHP Dreamweaver / Fireworks

2001-09-24 Thread Adam

 Sometimes I find it easier to build web tables inside fireworks, but I
also
 need to embed PHP code into the table (ie. to display the date, logged in
 user, etc). Well, this is a pain because fireworks overwrites the entire
PHP
 file every time I make a change to it. If there's no PHP to embed I just
 require the HTML file with the fireworks output in it.

 I am tired of cutting and pasting my PHP code! ;-)

 How do you guys handle things like this?

 Thanks.

I don't USE a wysiwyg program to edit tables or html. Unless it's made for
php (yeah right i'd liek to see that) it's not gonna be able to tell what
you want. Maybe get phakt for Ultradev or something.

RE: [PHP] 404 error

2001-09-24 Thread Tim Ward

But how did you get the PHP code to run if the file doesn't exist? If a file
with a php extension is requested Apache thinks the error returned by the
PHP parser is a valid response to the request and auto_prepend only seems to
work after the parser has got the file for parsing.

I've tried everything I can to solve this. Has no-one else out there found
this a problem?

 Congratulations. You just described a multidimensional array :-)

No he didn't ... a 2 dimensional array would have a set 2 dimensional
structure. Each row would have to have the same number of columns. An array
of arrays may be built in such a way as to be able to be presented as if it
were a 2d array but IT ISN'T. It cannot be manipulated as if it were.
$element[0][id] and $element[1][id] are NOT members of the same array.

 $myarray[1] = array(element10, element11,element12);
 $myarray[2] = array(element20, element21,element22);

 You would refrence element11 by

Re: [PHP] 404 error

2001-09-24 Thread Richard Baskett

You need to create an .htaccess file with this inside of it:

ErrorDocument 404 /yourfulldirectory/404.php

What this does is tells your server where to look when it has a 404 error.
You can put an .htaccess file in each directory so each directory will have
a different 404 error. Or you can put it in the root /404.php since the
file is recursive within directories.

And then I have inside my 404.php file a little script that emails me the
referrer page and the link that created the error, plus a little to tell the
user that the page was not found of course :)

The Page with error is $HTTP_REFERER
The Link on that Page is $REDIRECT_SCRIPT_URI

I hope that helps!

Rick

 But if the file has an extension that you have told Apache to associate with

No. If it really does that you misconfigured apache.

 The paresr then sends back an html page with the error on, so
 Apache thinks it has found the page. At least that's what happens on
 our server. Am I missing something in Apache that will tell the server
 to check a file exits before it sends the request to the server?

  No he didn't ... a 2 dimensional array would have a set 2 dimensional

  presented as if it were a 2d array but IT ISN'T. It cannot be
  manipulated as if it were. $element[0][id] and $element[1][id] are
  NOT members of the same array.

 If you see it that way, PHP doesn't even have single-dimensional arrays
 (because all arrays are associative).

 $c1 = ocilogon(ims,ims,$db);
 if ($c1 == false){

 I still get the same error

Hi all,

I'm new to php but I would look at the concept of setting a cookie on the
log-in page and then testing for that cookie on the http://therealsite page
and redirecting failues accordingly. In fact that could be set into every
page to make sure that people have to go thru the log-in page. You still
check for the password though.

Wrong. Many browsers don't send the Referer: header, not to mention it's
downright trivial to spoof it. This doesn't afford any more security at all.

[PHP] Need help with auto_prepend_file

2001-09-24 Thread Michael Champagne

Our website relies heavily on include files. We have a single include file
that is 'auto prepended' to every php file on the site using the
auto_prepend_file directive in php.ini. This include file does an
include_once on other include files. Also, most parts of our code include
other page components such as our menu bar from other .inc files.

Should we be using auto_prepend_file? It seems like this does not do an
include_once and when we turn error_reporting = E_ALL we are seeing a lot of
errors on variables that have already been defined and such.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Mike

Subject: [PHP] Need help with auto_prepend_file

 Our website relies heavily on include files. We have a single include file
 that is 'auto prepended' to every php file on the site using the
 auto_prepend_file directive in php.ini. This include file does an
 include_once on other include files. Also, most parts of our code include
 other page components such as our menu bar from other .inc files.

 Should we be using auto_prepend_file? It seems like this does not do an
 include_once and when we turn error_reporting = E_ALL we are seeing a lot of
 errors on variables that have already been defined and such.

 Thanks in advance for any replies.

 Mike

What you can do is check on some constant that you define the first
time the file is included. The auto prepended file will then look
something like:

--- Pseudo code ---

- if constant A is not defined
  --  define constant A
  --  your code

--- End of Pseudo code ---

This will make sure function, variables and/or constants will only
be defined once.

[PHP] PHP and GD

2001-09-24 Thread J. Anderson Scarbrough

I am trying to create PNG images on the fly
using the following code.

if(file_exists($key)) {
$diff =  time() - filemtime($key);
if($diff = 600) {
 unlink($key);
}
}
$im = ImageCreateFromPNG($value);
$isCreated = imagePNG($im, $key, '80'); //error occurs here

I recieve the following error on the line indicated above.

imagepng: unable to open '/images/image1.png' for writing

When I run phpinfo it shows PHP as begin copiled with GD support with PNG
enable on GD (see below)

GD Support enabled
GD Version 1.6.2 or higher
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled

The only other issue i could think of was permissions, but i have changed
permissions to rwx all the way across for the directory and all files
inside the directory.

Any one have any ideas???

Thanks.

[PHP] Problem with simple classes to connect/query to SYBASE database

2001-09-24 Thread Krzysztof Kocjan

Hi,

I have simple PHP code.
?php

/** DB
**/

class db {

  var $connect_id;

  function open( $database, $host, $user, $password ) {
$this-connect_id = @sybase_connect( $host, $user, $password );
if ( $this-connect_id ) {
  $result = @sybase_select_db( $database );
  if ( !$result ) {
$this-connect_id = $result;
  }
  return $this-connect_id;
} else {
  return 0;
}
  }

}; // End class

/** QUERY
***/

class query {
  var $result;
  var $was_error;

  function query( $db, $query =  ) {
global $php_errormsg;
global $GLOBALS;

$this-was_error=0;

//remove comment sings at line below to get OK result
//$query = select * from mytab;
$this-result = @sybase_query( $query, $db-connect_id );
if( $this-result == FALSE ) {
  $fh = fopen( /tmp/syberror.log, a );
  fwrite( $fh, 'PHP_ERRORMSG:' . $php_errormsg . \n );
  fwrite( $fh, 'PHP_ERRORMSG:' . $GLOBALS[ php_errormsg ] . \n
);
  fwrite( $fh, $query.\n );
  fclose( $fh );
  $this-was_error = 1;
}
  }

  function error() {
if( $this-was_error )
  $result = 1;
else
  $result = 0;

return $result;
  }

}; // End class

 $dbName='mydb';
 $dbUser='sa';
 $dbPass='';
 $dbServer='SYBASE';

 $DB = new db();
 $DB-open( $dbName, $dbServer, $dbUser, $dbPass );
 $q = new query($DB); //dummy query for generic operations

 $query = select * from mytab;
 $q-query( $DB, $query ); //there is called query

 if ( $q-error() ) {
  //I always get WRONG when doesn't change the value of $query paramater
inside query() method
  print( 'WRONG' );
 } else {
  //I always get OK when change the value of $query paramater inside
query() method
  print( 'OK' );
 }

?

When I run script above I got WRONG message. Then I changed value of the
$query parameter inside query method of query class and rerun the script
then I got OK. Funny, isn't it ???. What is it wrong ??? It is NOT MY
FIRST TIME when I'm using PHP, Apache and Sybase Adaptive Server
Enterprise. Till this time I've never used class for connecting and
querying database. I have my own scripts to connect/query SYBASE
database, but I tried to use classes. It's more useful and powerful.

Second problem. How to get values of the global variables inside methods
of any class ??? Code inside method query() doesn't return values of
global variable $php_errormsg (trace error flag is ON).

Thanks for any help

Yes, in fact it is normal. Having dedicated MySQL box is a good idea. A
lot of the MySQL security is based around this. To find out how look in
the MySQL manual (download .pdf from www.mysql.com) or go on the mysal
mailing list (same domain) or if you have a decent isp get primer from
there support website (you could have a look at www.pair.com/support).

[PHP] Getting my head around nulls.

2001-09-24 Thread Ben . Edwards

First recap (been doing RDBMS stuff for over 10 years so reckon this is
correct). Nulls and blank are NOT the same in RDBMS (in fact there are
actually several types of nulls). MySQL implements this correctly (Unlike
Oracle which treats null and blank the same). Up to now I am OK but when
it comes to codeing in PHP I am not to sure about best practice.

The app I am working on for number datatypes inserts 0 if no data is
entered in form. I can see why, I am inserting a blank into the database
and MySQL goes (Hang on this is a number fields and as you are not
inserting NULL you obviously mean zero). So I guess I need to do some
conditional stuff so the blanks are not actually inserted or put null into
the PHP variable and insert this (Can PHP vars be null but exist?). Or is
their another option?

The second half of the issue is getting data from the database. I added a
couple of columns to database but then I tried to retrieve them as
$row[index]. I got a variable x douse not exist error. This really through
me until I realised it was because the value in the database was null and
it kind of makes sense not to create the var for nulls (although it makes
coding a pig). So again, it seems I need to do a lot of isset() stuff
which is going to be a pain. Any other insight.

Nulls with varchar/char types are not so much of a problem as long as you
don't mind all fields in the database being blank rather than null after
you first insert data into them.

It would be good to get peoples advice on this.

And remember 0 as a number is as important as any other number.

Regards,
Ben

[PHP] array

2001-09-24 Thread Jeremy Morano

Hello everyone.

I'm encountering difficulties using my arrays.

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
$link[$c] = $row['link'];
$c = $c + 1;
}

This is where I try using it.

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
$date = $row['date'];
$path = $row['path'];
$entry_name = $row['entry_name'];
$company_name = $row['company_name'];

$file = basename ($path);

while ($c = 0) {

echo $link[$c];

if($file == $link[$c])
{
$file = This is new;
}

$c = $c -1;
}

$contact_list2 .= $date   $file   $entry_name   $company_name\n;

}

Comment: Theecho $link[$c] works fine. It displays what it should.
However the if statement does not because $file and $link[$c] are equal on
several occasions yet the content of $file doesn't change... Thank You.

Re: [PHP] search engine submission

2001-09-24 Thread Jonathan Chum

I believe that he wants an automated URL submission script. I've seen one
that just been released like a week or two ago. It's good script from what I
remember looking at the code with success page verification. If I can find
the URL, I'll be sure to reply. I can't seem to find it my IE's history. I
think the Windows XP Pro upgrade on Win2k did something to the browser's
history.

I have ported my PERL submission script to PHP, however I'm waiting for a
particular feature in PHP, rather a function to be more developed before I
release my port.

2001-09-24 Thread Johnson, Kirk

 And remember 0 as a number is as important as any other number.

I wish the rest of the world saw it that way! But not so...

You may want to look at MySQL's IS_NULL function for retrieving data. Other
than that, I don't have any good advice. It seems that if you retrieve a
NULL from the database and try to assign it to a PHP variable, that variable
gets destroyed. AFAIK, yes, you need a bunch of data checks, both putting
data in and pulling it back out.

[PHP] Sessions just don't work on my machine. (Trying this again)

2001-09-24 Thread Thomas Deliduka

I have written here several times on this subject and in the end those who
have gratiously helped me have ended up just telling me they have no clue
why it doesn't work. It HAS to be my server setup but I don't know what it
could be.

Sessions just don't work on my machine...

The heart of the problem is the session_start() function.

The first time you start a session with this function it creates a new
session, that's fine.

The problem happens when it's run and no matter if the SSID is in a cookie
or passed via a form, it will still create a new session, every single time.
It will not pickup the old session.

Here is the app I setup to demonstrate the problem:

http://fromtheduke.com/session/

The first page initiates the session, the variable is posted to the next
page, the next page should retrieve the session and display the first two
variables which were registered in the session, then display the third var.

You'll see the third var showsup, the first two don't. The session ID may
or may not remain the same. If you manually remove the index2.php file and
reload the first page, the SSID will have changed.

I have tried session_name() to force the session ID. I was told though this
function doesn't set the SSID. It gives the SSID a name or something.

I have been told this is all setup correctly, yet, you can see it doesn't
work.

The permissions on my /tmp directory look like this:

drwxrwxrwt  /tmp

Does this have anything to do with this? I don't know much about the
permissions part of things.

I have tried session_name() to force the session ID. I was told though this

I have been told this is all setup correctly, yet, you can see it doesn't

The permissions on my /tmp directory look like this:

Does this have anything to do with this? I don't know much about the

Re: [PHP] Sessions just don't work on my machine. (Trying this again)

2001-09-24 Thread Jay Paulson

I had the exact same problem.. don't know if you had this advice yet or not
but what I did is when I started a session I would grab the session id for
that session and put it in a variable and then just pass that session id
everywhere I went.. turn on the trans_id or add the session id to the end of
every link so it gets pass throughout all the links/forms you have on the
site.

start_session();
$SID = session_id();

That's what I do and then I just pass the $SID on all the links and forms
and it works for me.

Hope that helps or is at least something new for you to try.

Subject: [PHP] Sessions just don't work on my machine. (Trying this again)

 The problem happens when it's run and no matter if the SSID is in a cookie
 or passed via a form, it will still create a new session, every single
time.
 It will not pickup the old session.

 Here is the app I setup to demonstrate the problem:

 http://fromtheduke.com/session/

 The first page initiates the session, the variable is posted to the next
 page, the next page should retrieve the session and display the first two
 variables which were registered in the session, then display the third
var.

 You'll see the third var showsup, the first two don't. The session ID may
 or may not remain the same. If you manually remove the index2.php file and
 reload the first page, the SSID will have changed.

 Source of the files:

 session_register(var2);

You can also send the SID in a form via

I use the constant SID and the shorthand ?=SID? because that is what is

Re: [PHP] Even more text document stuff!!

2001-09-24 Thread Philip Olson

look into the following functions (in the manual), play with the
examples then eventually implement the concepts into your script :

  file()
  fopen()
  fread()
  fgets()

the manual entries for the above functions contain examples that
essentially do what you want. most likely you'll use file(). you should
get comfortable with arrays too. also, look into stristr().

I guess I did. But hey.

On internet Explorer for the PC I get the proper 'try this link' value. Not

But on IE for the Mac PHPSESSID above prints out fine but the 'try this

What is up with that?! is this platform specific?!

 No, SID constant is especially usefull when you don't know if the
 user accepts cookies or not. SID will have a real value (e.g.
 PHPSESSID=lk123s) when you should add it to the url, and will
 have an empty value when you don't need to deal with it (because it's
 been stored in cookie).

RE: [PHP] Sessions just don't work on my machine. (Trying this ag ain)

2001-09-24 Thread Johnson, Kirk

OK, do you have access to your /tmp directory? If so, close your browser,
then open it and request your index page. Now sort the files in /tmp by
creation time, to find the newly created session file. Look at its contents,
and see if the 2 variables have values assigned to them in the file. Do this
before you click submit on index.

BTW, I don't think $PHPSESSID is ever defined on the first request. Instead,
you can do this to see the new session ID on the first page. That will also
help you find the correct session file to inspect.

echo session id is  . session_id() . br\n;

Re: [PHP] Sessions just don't work on my machine. (Trying this again)

2001-09-24 Thread Thomas Deliduka

Thank you everyone for your continued help with this. It's still not fixed
but I have to leave to a dr. appt. I hope that most--If not all--of you are
on when I get back.

I just wanted to alert you as to why I wouldn't be responding to your
questions/messages.

Here is the last information I sent Tamas:

I find as exepcted, it's creating a new PHPSESSID every time I post to the
index2.php

As I mentioned in the first e-mail, it ust creates a new session. But this
is something I find interesting.

I start the session for the first time, it regsiters var1 and var2.

Then I post to the next page, the PHPSESSID values are posted perfectly fine
but on the server a new session with a different vale is created with var3
in it.

Then I will reload the first page again by erasing index2.php and hitting
enter and it will display a new sess id number and show the first page, as
normal but that sessid number is equal t the new session created on the
server and the value of it is:

var3; var1; var2

This is stranger than strange.

[PHP] How to increase number of supported servers?

2001-09-24 Thread buchholz

PHP 3.0.18 stops working after i add over 125 virtual hosts in my
httpd.conf file. PHP 4.0.6 still working.

After reaching this limit PHP3 completele stopps delivering pages.
Searching the archives i recognized, that nearly the same problem was
reported on http://bugs.php.net, reading Bug Id #5316 and #6842.

Im running Apache 1.3.20 with PHP 4.0.6 and PHP 3.0.18
on Solaris 2.7
Unforenatly i can´t stop serving PHP3 at this moment, so i really need
for a solution to break through this PHP3 limitation. In addition it
seems, that PHP4 (at laest after the 4.0.3pl1 release) hasn´t the
problem or has a higher limit level.

Question 1:
Any chance to configure/patch PHP3 to support more than 255 file
handles? (equal to support more than 125 virtual servers in my
production environment)?

Question 2:
Is the problem reported in the two bug reports above solved in PHP
4.0.6? Or is it pushed to a later appearance by optimising file handle
consumption?

Any one out there who knows more about this? Any hints?
Thanks in advance.

 session created on the server and the value of it is:

 This is stranger than strange.
This isn't so strange. The session id is stored in a cookie.

But.. I turned off cookies (debuging can be done much easier), and
played a little.
I found that the session is created properly on the first page and
the 2 variables are registered too.
But on the second page they aren't set on the first view (that's
stange!).
If I reload the page (of course the same sid is in the url), the 2
variables this time are set, with their value that were given on the
first page (that's why I told above they were registered, and their
values are stored properly, so it's not a problem of rights, session
save paths, etc..)
So that's what I've found, but I have to go home now sorry.
On the other hand the 2 source file you've sent me worked fine on my
computer, without any problems (and warnings).

 So, I shouldn't use that if I'm depending on SID to display on
 pages to pass the session ID. Or what, disable cookie support in
 my php.ini?
No, SID constant is especially usefull when you don't know if the
user accepts cookies or not. SID will have a real value (e.g.
PHPSESSID=lk123s) when you should add it to the url, and will
have an empty value when you don't need to deal with it (because it's
been stored in cookie).

Re: [PHP] Sessions just don't work on my machine. (Trying this again)

2001-09-24 Thread Thomas Deliduka

I just tried this here below. Before trying this I changed any called to
$PHPSESSID to session_id().

I turned off cookies
Loaded the page... Created session id and file:
sess_44074d3a54862b480c3407c9eb373f77
Contents: var1|s:8:My var 1;var2|s:8:My var 2;

I submitted the form:
PHPsessionid shows up as: 2f633e17c6752342d0c1e7e6191b4112
New file with same name contents: var3|s:8:My Var 3;

I removed index2.php and went back to the first file.
PHP SessID shows up as 68b482365d9086068edfa3e35d8dd41d
Corresponding file with contents: var1|s:8:My var 1;var2|s:8:My var 2;

This is different then what I previously said.

But it's clear to me that each time session_start() is called, it doesn't
open the existing session rather it creates a new one.

When I click the 'try this link' instead when starting over. It still
creates a new session ID on the server.

Re: [PHP] Warning: Undefined variable when used locally, but fineon remote server

2001-09-24 Thread Philip Olson

This has to do with error_reporting level setting set in php.ini

  echo $iamnotset;

when E_NOTICE level is on, that will produce a Warning. Otherwise, it
will not.

I posted something similiar recently, see it here:

  http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=php-generalm=100083224311516

On uklinux, either fix the code (yeah!) or use the error_reporting()
function to suppress the warnings. Strange that a free host would have it
on, actually, it's kinda cool :)

Philip Olson

Re: [PHP] How to increase number of supported servers?

2001-09-24 Thread Jay Paulson

what does this mean?

Warning: Cannot use a scalar value as an array

I look at the line that is causing the warning and it's this:

$errorMsg[error] = ;

thanks,
jay
