Re: [PHP] Website to fax

2003-11-06 Thread Randum Ian
Won't converting it to a printer be simpler and cheaper?

 Hello friends.

 I am trying to make a restaurant website where we can order on the net.
 However, since the waiters cannot watch emails, I want to convert the
 mail() messages from the webpage to a fax using an appropriate gateway.

 We want one gateway to server many web sites. Is there such a
 possibility?

 If yes, can someone please tell me how to start?

 Thanks
 Denis

Re: [PHP] Possible My Website was hacked... with PHP... please tell me what this is???

2003-07-31 Thread Randum Ian
Although this is a very good idea it would only benefit people who had
access to their own installation of PHP. Most people are only able to use
PHP on a shared server so perhaps wouldn't have access to the php.ini
file.

  Yeah, definatley reason to explore the possibilities... But this is
 really my own stupid fault it got there in the first place... I had
 an image upload form and I didn't tell it only to accept image/jpeg
 or image/gif

 i see this happen quite a lot, both in these lists, and the security
 focus ones. is there not something that can be set from a default
 install on the php.ini ? make it that by default php only accepts images
 / zip files / documents ? it seems to give PHP a reputation for being
 very easy to compromise.

 sorry, this probably should be a new post, but this is kinda following
 on, so please forgive me :)

Isn't there a Don't Spam Me Or Else list now up and running as part of
the Data Protection Act and if your email is on there and they still send

 So dont buy it...download a free copy and for the next month or so
 bounce all the spam crap back to the spammersat least you will be
 taken off some of their lists as your address will be marked as

 Just my 2 cents coz thats what i am doing, cant do much else can we?

2003-06-11 Thread Randum Ian
A site like this could have it's legitimate uses such as a mail server for
a large net company but most people abuse it. The only problem these days
is that they don't use one email address, the program actually generates a
random address each time so it just comes in all the time! :o(

 Not that I know of but if you know of such a lovely place...please do
 enlighten me :-)
 Besides a lot of spam comes from offshore servers where no real
 country is responsible...and most countries are not bothered anyway.
 Spam is big business and I read on google a site is charging around 150$
 a month for hosting a site and offering you just 25mb of space..no
 databases/php/cgi-bin etc just a mail server and you can send however
 much of junk you want from there

 Come again? I don't follow your logic. Anyone could have gotten your
 email address if you have ever posted to the list. There is no reason
 for you to suppose that it is a list member.

 It's spam. Either track it down and hunt it, or ignore it and delete it.

Have you tried typing localhost?

 Hi all,

 I know this is not the right group to this but I am desperate. I have
 just got Apache and I am a total newbie to Apache and to playing with
 servers, so as u can imagine I am floundering a tad at the mo!! I have
 set-up and cofig'd apache 2.0.46 on a Windows XP machine on a LAN with
 ADSL net access.. Now I know the server is working fine as I can
 interact with it on a command line and it is showing as started on its
 ickle control panel.

 Now the problem is that I let the server decide on it's own IP address
 by leaving Listen in the config file as just a port no of 8080 (80 is
 already used on this machine), but I have no idea how to actually access
 the server from a browser as I have no URL or IP to type in!!! Help!!

 How do I find the IP? Or is there something that I have missed/done
 wrong/broken?

 I am sure that this is really simple but at the moment the only simple
 thing around here is me!!

 All thought or comments welcome.

 Thanks,

 Simon

 check phpinfo()... it lists the colors that

 Better yet, here's the values:

 highlight.bg  #FF #FF
 highlight.comment #FF9900 #FF9900
 highlight.default #CC #CC
 highlight.html#00 #00
 highlight.keyword #006600 #006600

 I don't suppose there is a standard scheme for highlighting such

Don't worry about it mate, I understand how p* off experienced coders

I have had a look at the phpinfo() file and it has come up with what it
uses to highlight code so I might as well just use that!

Hi Keven,

 Hi,

 Can someone tell me if I can use php to accomplish
 the following:

 I would like to create a form that can:

 A. Total the sum of a certain number of numerical
 fields, Before the user clicks submit

 B. Automatically fill in sections of a form
 based on selections made by the user. As an example,
 if my user selects option A, then a certain numerical
 code is filled into a given section of the form.

 We are just trying to make the forms user friendly.

 Can I do this in php or will it require javascript as well?

 Thanks

You could do this by running the form through a script but I would
suggest you use JavaScript. There are loads of free scripts you can cut and
paste to your requirements on various websites such as
http://www.javascriptsource.com and http://www.javascripts.com. Have a root
about and see what you can find.

Hi guys,

Wonder if you can help me with this.

I have a recording_global table which has recording_global_id in and
dj_global_id.

I want to be able to sort the recording_global table alphabetically by
dj name which I need to find from the dj_global_id table referencing
it from the ID in the recording_global table and enter it into a
script.

I have been banging my brain all afternoon but am no nearer to the
solution. Below is the code I got upto before I realised I was stuck.

$sql = SELECT * FROM recording_global ORDER BY recording_global_name
WHERE recording_global_name LIKE a%;

Any help hugely appreciated! Ian.

[PHP] Image Resize

2003-02-23 Thread Randum Ian
Hi guys,

Is it possible to resize an uploaded file to 10% of it's size and rename
it accordingly?

I have the filename for the full-size image as filename-WWWxHHH.jpg
where WWW is the width and HHH is the height.

I want the re-sized image to have the filename
filename-thumb-WWWxHHH.jpg where WWW is the resized width and HHH is
the resized height.

Does this make any sense, would it be possible automatically?

I am grateful for any help, Ian.

[PHP] Sort List But NOT After Date Has Passed.

2003-02-01 Thread Randum Ian
Hi guys, I have a script which looks in a directory, pulls out all the
files and sorts them by reverse date order. The file name schema is
mmdd-the rest of the file.

Script:
---
$interestingFile = array();

$interestingFiles = array();

$dir = opendir('/home/danceportal/www/uk/ian') or die( Could not open
dir );

while($dirEntry = readdir($dir)){

  if(ereg(summary, $dirEntry) || ereg(full, $dirEntry)){

array_push($interestingFile, $dirEntry);

$date = explode(-, $dirEntry);

$finished = explode(., $date[0]);

array_push( $interestingFiles, $finished[0]);

  }

}
sort($interestingFile, SORT_REGULAR);
$count = count($interestingFile);
$k = $count;
$j = 0;
while($j  $count) {
$k --;
include $interestingFile[$k];
echo p;

$j ++;
}
---
What I want to do is get today's date, then check each line against the
date and only show the rest of the files with the next one to expire and
so on.

Could someone help me with this please?

Cheers, Ian.

You can also find a number of premade scripts on HotScripts.com or one

RE: [PHP] Read Files

2002-11-30 Thread Randum Ian
Thanks a lot Chris that was a great help.

The date is in the last part of the filename. In the example I have
posted below:

Ministry is the name of the club.
Full is the type of the content.
6122002 is the date - It is in the form ddmm so the example here is
6th December 2002.

Is there a simple way I can just grab the date and sort it by order?
Should I change the format of the date to make it easier or something?

To get an array full of the file names you want:

$interestingFiles = array();
$dir = opendir( /path/to/directory ) or die( Could not open dir );
while( $dirEntry = readdir( $dir ) ){
  if( ereg( full, $dirEntry) ){
   array_push( $interestingFiles, $dirEntry );
  }
}

I'll leave it up to you to sort $interestingFiles by the date in the
element values, since I don't recognize a date in your file-naming
convention.

Anyway, the easiest thing I can think of is to run a regex enumerating

[PHP] A little help needed, I cant figure!

2002-10-13 Thread Randum Ian

Morning all,

I am currently working on a project for my client that involves an
archive of Artist Singles and Album charts dating from the 1960's to the
current day. I would like to be able to put them into a database but I
am unsure of which database to use (I don't mind learning one if it
proves to be better) or how to layout the tables within the database.

For example I intend to have over 4,000 different charts covering well
over 6,000 artists and over 26,000 singles and album titles. Could mySQL
and PHP cope with this demand?

I thought about having a table for Artists, one for Singles and then one
for Albums and a junction table coupling all of them together but I
can't figure out how to do it.

Has anybody got any thoughts that could help me along the way?

Kind regards,
Randum Ian

2002-10-13 Thread Randum Ian

Indeed, another problem I have is that if a single is on an album, which
track it is on the album.

I want to centre the site on the Charts that are generated weekly for
singles and albums so if I use that as my source for the lookup and then
have the data contained in separate fields that are linked to this
table. Will that be making things easier or harder?

  Song Table:
  Song_id
  A_id
  Type
  Name
  Length
  Lyrics
  ...

  That's my ideas on how to do it. There are many ways to do
  it, though.

  Totally agree with what John says. If the lyrics are long
  (as I assume
  they will be) then I'd probably hive the lyrics off into a table of
  their own with as many records as needed to make up one
  song. The song
  table would then become:

  Song Table:
  Song_id
  A_id
  Type
  Name
  Length
  Lyric_id

  and have a lyrics table such as:

  Lyrics Table:
  Lyric_id
  sequence
  text

Hmm, just thinking about normalizing the data and I suspect that the
song table will be insufficient if you have to take into account songs
that are released as a single and then also released on an album. You
may find, in that circumstance, that having lookup tables will help.
One of these tables will contain artist ID's and associated song ID's
and enable you to get singles for an artist. The other table would
contain album ID's and song ID's and enable you to get songs for an
album. Obviously, you can get much more complex queries going as well
such as the number of times a particular song has been included on an
album by an artist.

This addition would also help with songs on compilation albums by
multiple artists where you could drill down to a list of songs on a
compilation album complete with the artist for each song.

CYA, Dave

For SIMPLE SIMPLE selects and inserts, MySQL will probably remain
faster. If you are doing a very simple web set up where you are mostly
inserting and spitting out single table information, MySQL will be the
way to go.

Anything else, I would recommend PostgreSQL. It's got FAR superior
features and anytime you start very complex queries ( like JOINS and
multi-table aggregate functions, etc ) postgres will blow MySQL out of
the water.

They are both nice, just for different purposes. MySQL = simple,
PostgreSQL = anything else.

Also, you can run EXPLAIN query on PostgreSQL to find out exactly
what is happening when you do a query and if it's using an index
properly or not.

Hi!

 I'm making some testing over DB.php (PEAR)

 And i wan't to know if this is normal.

 I've made some script where I connect do SQL server
 and execute one simple (1row) query.

 I use pgsql and mysql. tables and indexes are same for both servers.
So
test table is identical

 Whe i execute those script i get some timing results

PGSQL
Total time: 0.0576
Execution time: 0.0185

MySQL
Total time: 0.0086
Execution time: 0.0028

Time is in seconds.

My machine is PIII 333 MHz with 128MB RAM. I table is only 3 rows of
data.

I want to know why is sucsh diference. Both servers runing
with socket connections and using connnect (non-persistant)

[PHP] My boss wants to know...

As far as I can see that leaves me with only Active Server Pages in

[PHP] Can I use a template with this site?

2002-06-15 Thread Randum Ian

Hi All, Hope you are all well.

I am coding a website for a client and they involve a series of files:

logobanner.php
navbar.php
leftmenu.php
main.php
rightmenu.php
copyright.php

These are all just simple HTML files which are placed in a Global dir apart
from main.php which is in the same dir as the index.php file. Is there a way
where I can have one index.php file which calls all the Global files and
only the relevant main.php file? Kind of like a simple template system?

For example at the moment I have this for my dir pattern:

/global/
-logobanner.php
-navbar.php
-leftmenu.php
-rightmenu.php
-copyright.php
/home/
-index.php
-main.php
/news/
-index.php
-main.php

When /news/index.php is called, all the global files are called along with
the main.php that is in the News dir, the same for all the others in their
respective dirs.

Am I overlooking an important function or script that can do this without
being too complicated?

Please let me know, Ian.

When you select an item to look at, there is a section named:

How is this done? Is there a reference to a new db which has the links and

[PHP] Directory System Splitter

2002-04-27 Thread Randum Ian

Hi guys, trying to get my head around possible code for this problem.

My website has various sections which have their own directory like below:

HOME - Main part of the website
CHARTS - Various DJ charts
MUSIC - Review, News and other things

and so on..

At the top of each page I have a link panel which depending on which section
of the site you are in shows the links back down the directory system.

For example:

http://www.danceportal.co.uk/diary/2002/may/

has this in the panel:

Home / Diary / 2002 / May / -- These are links back down the system of
directories.

http://www.danceportal.co.uk/charts/randumian/mon-22-apr-2002.php

has this:

Home / Charts / Randum Ian / Monday, April 22, 2002

Is it possible to automate this in a template so that it can work out where
it is and create the correct links?

If you need an example of how it is now please visit my website
http://www.danceportal.co.uk/home/.

Regards, Ian.

Re: [PHP] Code Troubles

2002-04-26 Thread Randum Ian

The trouble I got with it is the code is chucking back the The site
database is unavailable. error and it is indeed available. I have used
other scripts at the same time and they are pumping it back. It is not a way
of coding I have used before and wondered if it was the code?

I am simply finding different ways of logging onto a mySQL db.

 Well, you've simply defined a few variables and then a function. Do you
 expect it to do something?

 Show us the context in which this function is used.

[PHP] phpLISTMAN

2002-04-21 Thread Randum Ian

Hi there,

I am trying to find a Mailing List Manager on the net that is written in PHP
that access a database of emails, and other information, in order to manage
and maintain a list of subscribers.

I have now decided to write my own, both to fill a possible niche in the PHP
code world, and also to further my understanding of PHP. I am asking your
help in providing me with a list of things that need to implemented into
this code in order to provide something that people want to use. I am
willing to make this code widely available to who ever wants it, and
eventually code something that will be useable by other people in the PHP
world.

I have thought of the following, and if people could suggest/add to this
list I would greatly appreciate it!

Control Panel
-Add User
-Delete User
-Validate Email
-Send Mail (HTML/Text)
-Archive Mail

HTML Generator
-Subscription Box
-Unsubscribe Box
-Statistics

Can anybody help me with this project codenamed phpLISTMAN???

Kind Regards, Ian.

Re: [PHP] phpLISTMAN

2002-04-21 Thread Randum Ian

Is that a nice way of saying that I am wasting my time in doing such a
project? I just get frustrated at not having a Mailing List Manager that I
can use to manage large lists of users.

Is it more bother than it is worth?

 Let's see. Double opt-in with cryptographic/time security, automatic
bounce
 message processing, programmable and scalable message handling, automated
 relay centers for very large lists, both digest regular versions, deny
 processing, multiple posting addresses, management functions available via
 email processining, moderation, etc. ...

 In other words, you might want to look through all the man pages and code
 for something like ezmlm and figure out if you want to duplicate all that
 work. Mailing lists are non-trivial pieces of code, and one little mistake
 can affect thousands of people (and your bandwidth).

 Contact your ISP, because it depends on your set-up... you basicaly need
to
 pipe all emails to that address to the CGI version of PHP, and then you
can
 grab the message and forward it to the entire list.

 But your ISP may also have other tools for this... if I send to all@ one
of
 my domains, it forwards to a pre-determined list of site contributors (a
 mailing list/group)... this is a simple text file that I can edit too.

 So, best advice is to start by telling your ISP what you want to achieve,
 and asking what they have available, or if it's your own server, post the
 set-up.

[PHP] RealMedia

2001-12-03 Thread Randum Ian

Hi guys,

I want to write a script that inputs a file variable then it sends out a RealMedia
header so that it sends the file location to RealPlayer.

EG:

If I click on http://www.randumian.co.uk/getsample.php?file=1234.rm, it should send
the headers so that the computer thinks its a .rpm file then send me to
http://www.randumian.co.uk/realaudio/1234.rm.

Can anybody advise me on what to do please?
