Because of this bug, robojournal is already out of testing, so a QtWebKit removal is not blocked by this bug. > Please feel free to tell me about your idea torwards this package. Unless Ritesh says otherwise, leave this package as it is. Also, for what it matters, please leave also QtWebKit as it is, since it is under the Qt/KDE team wing, and removing it requires more work than occasional people (like this email) think about. [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#860089: Bug#860089: kmymoney: Warns about missing canberra-gtk-module
Hi, sorry for the late reply. In data martedì 11 aprile 2017 12:25:06 CET, Eliot Blennerhassett ha scritto: > Package: kmymoney > Version: 4.8.0-2+b1 > Severity: normal > > Dear Maintainer, > > When starting an error message appears on the console. > about missing canberra-gtk-module. What is the exact message you get? Without it, it is hard to determine what is going on, and whether it is actually a problem or just a note/warning about a functionality. > Resolved by installing libcanberra-gtk-module. > > Conclude that kmymoney or one of its dependencies should depend on this > module. > > Note that the same error shows up from "firefox-esr" package. Perhaps there > is > a common lib... kmymoney does not require canberra nor any of its modules, so I'm not keen of adding a dependency when actually not needed. (The theming overhaul is definitely not > backportable to gtk2.) > > Someone shouldn't need to have gtk2 installed just because they > install a theme that happens to provide gtk2 support. I see two possibilities in this case (feel free to add more, of course): a) gtk2-engines-oxygen is installed via some desktop environment metapackage b) it is installed manually by the user, because they use gtk2-based applications (b) is not something this "solution" would solve, since gtk2 is installed already because of the application Regarding (a), this is exactly what I mentioned above in the part you quoted. If we install it automatically somehow, then we should do it only in case some gtk2 application is installed because of the same reason (i.e. the metapackage). Otherwise, recommending (or just suggesting) this theme could partially solve this. In general, I do not see the point in allowing "plugins for Foo" as installable/installed when "Foo" is not. > Let me point out that since 2011 Kubuntu has been making basically the > same change I've proposed here. There are various things that kubuntu does wrong, and that I needed to fix in the past and in recent times. "kubuntu did it" is not a magical sentence to bring the same mistakes also in Debian. > > Control: tag -1 - patch > > That seems like an unusual way to manage bugs. This bug definitely > does have a patch attached. Sadly, the Debian BTS does not have other ways to indicate when there is an *useful* patch in a bug. Since, so far, I do not see the provided patch as such, then I do not consider this bug as "has a patch". This is safe because the only thing that will > actually use the theme or theme engine is a gtk2 app which will > already depend on gtk2. I do not see the logic in this change: this package contains only a gtk2 theme, so the only way in which this is useful is because you have a gtk2 application installed, so the gtk2 dependency is already satisfied. It looks to me this allows users to install gtk2-engine-oxygen without actually pulling gtk2, which IMHO is the thing that needs to be fixed instead. -- Pino Toscano signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ pkg-kde-extras mailing list pkg-kde-extras@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-kde-extras

All of them are ports architectures, and they might get to the point of build kpmcore (for example alpha had kpmcore 3.2.1-1 in its build queue already) Please do not add this kind of artificial architecture limitation, since it is not useful, and it will require manual intervention later on for new architectures. -- Pino Toscano signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ pkg-kde-extras mailing list pkg-kde-extras@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-kde-extras

The problem in this case is the current mismatch between the available MariaDB versions, and the default one: - the default is still 10.0, which means that after the upload of amarok 2.8.0-7 mariadb 10.0 is pulled when building; in the current packaging, we copy the mysqlmsg.sys file from the installed version (so 10.0) - there is also mariadb 10.1 in the archive, and since src:mariadb-10.1 provides a libmariadbd18 binary (provided by src:mariadb-10.0 as well), then that library is used at runtime - the libmariadbd of MariaDB 10.1 knows more error messages than MariaDB 10.0, and thus the issue MariaDB maintainers, I see there's #850147 opened about switching the default to MariaDB 10.1 -- please do that ASAP, as unstable and testing are basically broken regarding this since the acceptance of src:mariadb-10.1 in the archive (more than 3 weeks). I see, although often is the database format version going to be bumped? Say only between lensfun x.y.z to x.(y+1), or even for .z releases? My only concern about versioning the -data package is that every time it needs to be bumped, the source (liblensfun) has to pass the NEW queue in Debian (which means review by ftp-masters, and can take up to days); OTOH I could live with that. The only thing I would do is naming it like liblensfun-data-vN though, as what you suggested earlier may imply it is providing a shared library liblensfun-data.so.N. Another solution could be double versioning the data, by library SONAME and database version, e.g. /usr/share/lensfun_$ABI/version_$DB/, which could allow to have liblensfunN and liblensfunN-data, parallel-installable aside each other SOVERSION. I saw these two patches: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/122569/ https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/122601/ they refer to the master branch of k3b, but the code in plugins/decoder/ffmpeg/ is the same in both the 2.0 branch (from where the 2.0.x releases like the latest 2.0.3a are taken) and master. The ffmpeg decoding plugin in k3b is doing the same job for the latest 6+ years, so at least to me all these API changes look like they brought nothing. Yes, I've seen the patch in #807853, and a couple of review requests on KDE's reviewboard. Let me take this opportunity to "reverse the issue": is your upstream aware that the continuous API breaks in each new stable series only waste time on the users' side? Just look at the affected code in k3b, plugins/decoder/ffmpeg/k3bffmpegwrapper.cpp: many defines and ifdef's, just to make the very same code do the very same job, nothing less and nothing more. Since I did not have further time for communicating with upstream about this, there was no further work. Trying to reproduce it on a porter box where the package otherwise builds fine, I can indeed trigger this FTBFS: | $ HOME=/foobar debuild -eHOME -B Excellent finding, I have prepared a patch that should make it build even with read-only home. Patch (with a bit longer explanation) is attached. Looks working correctly here, feel free to give it a test. -- Pino Toscano From: Pino Toscano p...@kde.org Description: Disable braindead KDE3/4 prefix detection The current detection of the KDE 3 and KDE 4 prefixes is done running kde-config and kde4-config, resp. This can be problematic, as these two could create files in ~/.kde, thus breaking when the home of the current user (eg in buildds) is read-only. Given the build system sets anyway /usr as prefix of KDE 3 and KDE 4 if they were not detected, then just let it to.
