My Thinkpad T61 had two 1-GB sticks in it for a couple of years. Last November I replaced them with two brand new 2-GB sticks. Everything continued to work fine until this morning. Suddenly everything was running very slow. I was unable to send a 40 MB PDF file to a printer, even with the cp comm

OK, the print queue is not jammed up. I read the man page for lpr and discovered the -l option. This option says "don't mess with this file, it is already formatted for the printer, so just send it and shut up." I was printing to a Phaser 7400DN, which I understand has the new Adobe PDF print engin

This afternoon I finished my first book on linguistics. Except for proofreading, it is ready for press. It will be printed by Linguistics Publishing, Inc. (which I own) to be ready for fall university bookstore orders. The writing and a lot of the layout was done in OpenOffice.org 3.0.x. Final lay
