Tried this one and it indeed works. Many thanks! One observation

albums).

Thoughts?

I changed a custom tag on a track, rescanned for 'changed' only, and it
all worked fine in a minute or 2.

I tried again with a few more changes which didn't seem to 'take' for
some reason, but at least custom scan ran, and ran quickly!

Have you also done something to the custom browse menus that include
custom tags? I may be wrong, but I think they have sped up back to

When I get time I'll do a few more tests, but this is definitely a
major step forwards. Thanks!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng + Custom Browse: Grouping by letters in artist menu

2011-10-06 Thread sts78

Hello,

I use iPeng via a squeezeslave htpc to play my music, and I use some
Custom Browse menus. (SBS 7.6.2 on a QNAP NAS, iPeng and CB most
current releases)

If I use the standards artist menus, iPeng groups the Artists by their
first letter (those little gray bars). But if I use the artist template
of CB, the output is quite the same, but without this grouping, just the
list of the artists.

Is this a matter of iPeng or CB? If it is the latter case, how can I
achieve to get those bars?

Thx in advance
Steffen

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng + Custom Browse: Grouping by letters in artist menu

2011-10-06 Thread pippin

If you want to get the bars you have to make sure the output is
alphabetically ordered.
Leading Articles as listed in Settings-My Music in the SBS Web
Interface will be ignored by iPeng, so Robbie Williams, The Rolling
Stones would be an example of an alphabetically sorted list while
Tangerine Dreams, The Rolling Stones would not.
If your CB menu has a different order you might need to either change
the menu or the Ignored Articles in the setting I mentioned above.

I'm not 100% sure whether CustomBrowse might also deliver textkey
indexes for indexing. If it does, iPeng should always show the index so
probably not but maybe there is a way to include them, Erland would have
to tell.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng + Custom Browse: Grouping by letters in artist menu

2011-10-06 Thread sts78

I have no leading articles, all my music is stored of the form Rolling
Stones, The and so on. Maybe ugly for some people, but very useful for
me. ;)
So I think the articles are not the problem in my case.

What do you mean with textkeys? Currently I used only the standard
artist template without going into the xml. But on some xml examples I
saw something like [..]substr(contributors.namesort,1,1)[..] as the
third field of the SELECT. Is this the textkey? Because when I dig into
the CB source code and look into the artist.xml template of CB, there is
only a select contributors.id,contributors.name from contributors.

Actually yes, this looks like it. But then THIS should be sorted

How are accented characters handled on your server (where does it list

Have you simply created a new menu using the template? I'd give it a

SO:
I now have deleted wimp and Ipeng and my idea is to start all over

1: Create a new account for mysquezzebox, )I think my account is f.
up for ever somehow)
2: Add my 4 slimplayers to this account
3: Download Ipeng again, to control players on iphone (works very
good)
4: NEVER log on mysquezzebox.com with the iphone again on this new

STOP DOING THIS!!

The Player on MySqueezebox.com is NOT a player and doesn't lock
ANYTHING. It's the controller and whenever you remove it I can't
guarantee that you can use iPeng with MySqueezebox.com at all. Not even
to control your SBs.

iPeng does NOT play directly with MySB. Never. It's player doesn't
connect to MySB.

So let's see what's really going on here.

SO, after having deleted the iphone player from mysquezzbox.com, having
WIMP to delete my iphone player, still ipeng locks wimp up as in use by
mysquezzebox.com not usable to my 123 players.

That's probably one of your Squeezeboxes using it. What is the exact
error message you are getting?
If you want to be absolutely sure iPeng's player is not using your WiMP
connection disable iPeng's playback in iPeng's settings.

 SO:
I now have deleted wimp and Ipeng and my idea is to start all over
 again:

Is that a WiMP App on your iPhone or something?

1: Create a new account for mysquezzebox, )I think my account is f.
 up for ever somehow)

It's probably f up, yes. But not forever. Please send me a
diagnostics mail from within iPeng (tap the mail link under Help) and
include your MySB account e-mail (I don't need the password, just the
mail address).

DON'T open a new account, this will just get you into more trouble with
the WiMP registration.

4: NEVER log on mysquezzebox.com with the iphone again on this new
 account

This doesn't make a difference. The player gets reported to MySB by the
server.
Just stop deleting stuff, that doesn't help but makes things worse.

Just recreated an artist menu (third template in the CB list) from
scratch (after rescanning whole database and clearing ipeng cache).

No roles included, with various artists section checked, default sort
by title...

Result:
The artist list is sorted, the alphabetical list of letters on the
right side exists, various artists is the first entry before the
a-artists and after the play all entry. No artists with obscure
accents and so on (it's just a test drive machine). Artist count on the
list: 36. The original artist menu has the bars.

Did I miss something?

I think there was a plugin to remember the last n playlists per

Instead, perhaps Erland's plugins could get somewhere close to what you
 are looking for?
Using TrackStat, it is possible to see a list tracks, albums, genres,
etc, ordered by last played. Using SQLPlaylist, you could make a
custom query to list albums/songs played in the last day, etc.

 Which menu is this?
OK. I just confirmed that the same problem happens in the standard
artists menu without custom-browse at all. I go the the Artists menu,
choose an album, and then click on a song. Contrary to what I said
before, the problem also can occur when I use the song's context menu
to put the song on the current playlist. :( Note that this is an
intermittent problem (happens about 30% of the time).

I thought 2.0.4 - at least I followed the instructions from pakarlss

webinterface when installed.

I tried a full clean install and removed and reinstalled
squeezeboxserver (going for it, tried the new logitech mediaserver
version), installed the plugin 2.0.4 manually as described, changed the
file permissions to those that all files in the
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver directory have (squeezeboxserver, nogroup).
the conf file:

loglevel: INFO
username: jmenzel
cachedir: /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/spotifycache
bitrate: 320
httpport: 9005
cliport: 9090

I activated the plugin with the webinterface, restart, restart the
sheevaplug. When I go to settings for the plugin, it asks that I agree
to the terms and conditions, and in the following screen I enter
username and password. settings page says helper app not running.
Same problem - times out when updating that screen, and spotify doesn't
work, timing out when you go to the playlists, library at the artists or
albums listing, etc. Looks like permissions for the conf file are wrong,
doesn't it... While, when I looked at the conf file after the clean
install and before I reconfigured the plugin, it had code in there
instead of clean text. When I then entered username and password in
settings, it did hang, but the conf file changed to the above.

Could I edit the conf file by hand to add the password?

And I also crosschecked that password again - it's correct...

[21:58:49.870903] main:373 Unable to read config file

Well if the config file does not contain a password entry then it won't
work with the 2.0.4 helper app. You could manually add one, but I think
it means you don't have 2.0.4 installed properly as when it saves the
config file it will include the password.

version a try hoping that the incremental scan capability would help.
However, I had to give up when the initial scan was still in process
after 20 hours. Is there anything I can do to speed up the initial
scan? I really miss using Custom Scan tags with Custom Browse, but if
a full rescan can't be completed overnight, it just isn't feasible.

Hi Erland, I updated to the new version of the Custom Scan alpha and it
made a big difference. A scan of the entire library took about 5 hours.
I then loaded several new albums and did a re-scan for new items.
Custom Scan picked up the new album in my primary music library folder,
but not the ones that were in folders on two other hard drives linked to
the main library by symlinks. The basic SqueezeServer re-scan picked up
these others fine. I'm on a Mac running OS X 10.7.1. I'm running
SqueezeServer 7.6.2 which I last updated a couple weeks ago.

Thanks, Triode. I rolled everything back once more, and redid it, and
now 2.0.4 is working again fine. Phew. Not sure what went wrong
initially, maybe I didn't clean the system up carefully enough.
Anyway - thanks a lot, and I'll be watching to see when your new

I suspect the issue is that:
- Logitech doesn't want to do it because they don't want to end up in
legal battle with the record companies.
- Grooveshark only wants to do it through an official agreement with
Logitech. I've tried, several times, to offer to help them do it
through a third party plugin, but my impression is that Grooveshark
isn't interested in doing it this way, they want an official plugin
through Logitech.

Of course, this is just suspicions, I have no actual facts.
But based on this I personally suspect this isn't going to happen.

To sum it up, it allows the users to upload content.

Grooveshark itself is probably not illegal but I believe there are
content available through Grooveshark which have been uploaded by users
but haven't been approved by the music industry. Kind of similar to
YouTube, it's probably not illegal by itself but you can find more or
less any music you like on it without paying anything and I'm pretty
sure the music industry doesn't consider that to comply with their
license agreements.
