Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce : Global Player (UK) Plugin (Classic FM, Capital, Smooth, Heart, LBC etc.)
Also now getting Live stream rebuffering / recovery with v2.0.2 Happens c.30 seconds after the start of most streams (a few seconds after the transition to Track metadata) and infrequently after that. Tried both Standard and Long buffer settings with no obvious difference. TBH I'm not 100% certain that I wasn't getting some rebuffering on 2.0.0 as I didn't run the Live streams for very long, but not the regular +30 dropout. If you view the episode list, does this reset the timer without a refresh? So if I retried the list (say..) every 9 minutes would it never refresh? That might explain at least some of the behaviour I was seeing yesterday, where I was trying fairly frequently to get to last night's episode, which I could see was available on the Android app, which finally appeared after I left things alone for about 30 minutes. Many thanks, I'll update here if I see significant delays. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce : Global Player (UK) Plugin (Classic FM, Capital, Smooth, Heart, LBC etc.)
Hi Stuart - Thanks for all of the work you've done on this and the BBC Sounds plugins, probably the most used sources on my Squeezeboxes. During the recent UK turmoil I've been listening avidly to "The Rest is Politics" and "The Newsagents" Podcasts via your Global Player plugin but I'm finding that new episodes are delayed, often by several hours, compared with what's shown on their Mobile app and Web portal. Even stranger, yesterday's Newsagents episode was showing before I restarted LMS to apply the latest build but then vanished for a few hours after the restart, with earlier episodes still shown. Both Podcast series are saved as Favourites but the episode list is the same if accessed via the Global Player -> Podcast menu tree. Does this make sense to you? Is the Global Player episode list updated / cached via a timer, or is it refreshed on each lookup, and if via a timer or rate limited then would it be possible to add a manual refresh button to the menu? Or maybe they've deliberately handicapped the API to steer people towards their app? Thanks again for a really useful set of plugins.. This may break the "keep it close to standard" directive, but for many years I've used the original birdslikewires Joggler / Squeezeplay build (on internal flash) but with a copy of Squeezelite also loaded and running as a separate player (started within .xinitrc just before squeezeplay.sh). Squeezeplay itself uses the internal speaker but is configured via Choose Player to control the squeezelite instance, which outputs to a USB DAC - currently a Behringer UCA202 using "-o hw:CARD=CODEC,DEV=0" but previously a Topping DAC/Amp. You do need to configure an explict, unique MAC address via -m for the squeezelite instance (otherwise LMS gets confused). The original reason was to avoid transcoding AAC streams and content in a very low-powered LMS and poor wifi network, but I've kept the configuration even without those constraints as it works well, with the useful side effect of the touch interface sounds coming directly from the Joggler but the content coming from the main system. Oh - and it works 100% fine with both BBC Sounds and iPlayer. :) Odroid HC1 / Armbian Stretch LMS & LocalPlayer 4x Slim Devices SB3 (White) 1x Boom, 1x Radio 2x Joggler + Squeezeplay / Squeezelite + Topping TP30 florca's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7486 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Just installed this and it's working beautifully. Maybe a misplaced hope, but I wonder whether this fully "signed-in" BBC access might reduce the potential incentive for the BBC to squash apps like the LMS BBC iPlayer, or restrict them to low-bandwidth content? Although they loose one of their objectives, full control over the UI / presentation, they gain the user-profiling data which they seem to crave, although I suspect they have this anyway through IP address correlation. As to Powerline - I put a couple of mid-range TP-Link units into my parents-in-law 1930's very solid house (having lost the debate about running Cat5e there...) and they work really well - as per previous comments you can ignore the quoted "speeds" but they've transformed the WiFi coverage around their house, so I'm not convinced that it's worth paying the significant premium that Devolo etc. charge. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: ts2shout - DVB-S/C MPEG-TS to Shoutcast/Squeezebox stream converter
Hi - This looks really neat and I used to use something similar to stream from DVB-T in the UK. The one thing that slightly puzzles me given that you're using TVHeadend to provide some of the info is why you don't simply use TVHeadend to do the heavy lifting and stream directly from it? I switched over to this method (and mothballed my TS->Shoutcast deamon) when I hooked my DVB-T dongle onto a Libreelec / TVHeadend config and it seems to work very well. The only thing missing is full EIT Programme info which the old method provided, but I can live without that given the simplicity. The key config items are: 1) An LMS Favourites URL in the form (to stream from my TVHeadend radio channel 704): http://libreelec:9981/stream/channelnumber/704?profile=mp2 2) A matching TVHeadend Stream profile of: 29640 Apologies if this won't work for some reason with your DVB-S / DVB-C services for some reason... [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer - BBC Technology Blog post on API development
Quite a detailed but ultimately depressing post on the BBC Technology blog about their API development. Most of it sailed way over my head, with lots of stuff very alien to my distant days of IBM Assembler programming and more recent Perl kludging, but they're obviously making lots of changes. Very depressing when you read their response to a comment / question from Paul Webster in that they have obviously backed away completely from any intention of providing an updated open API for external consumption :( Link here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/internet/entries/7e65dff6-9bf1-4f98-b185-3b424939c8ce Odroid HC1 / Armbian Stretch LMS & LocalPlayer 4x Slim Devices SB3 (White) 1x Boom, 1x Radio 2x Joggler + Squeezeplay / Squeezelite + Topping TP30 florca's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7486 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109806 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

All working perfectly again - many thanks to mrw & bpa. Had a quick play around with alternative filtered menu.opml files but in the end decided that the default works fine so why complicate things. FWIW I'd prefer to keep the Settings options as they are and provide "hardcore" customisation via the opml file for those who need it, understand the tradeoffs and are prepared to maintain it themselves - KISS!. We're looking into this and we'll update this FAQ with any further information. My guess is that they may have done something to try to fix that issue which has broken the feeds used by us? [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer Listen Live with DVB-T source - how are Program Icons derived??
Hi - I've been trying to add some new "station" entries to BBCiPlayer's menu.opml to stream BBC Radio channels from a DVB-T USB tuner. I've been using the DVB-T stream for some time as a Favourite, but I'm trying to get better Programme / Track info (and a Program Icon) which the BBCiPlayer code gives when compared to basic DVB EIT text embedded as Shoutcast metadata. I'll admit that it's partly just a challenge to see whether it can be done, but I can also see some benefits for people with a decent DVB-T or DVB-S signal but flaky or volume-charged internet. The DVB 192kbps MP2 stream will sound worse than 320kbps AAC on DASH, but is certainly good enough for Radio 4. The audio, and Programme / Track text are working perfectly, but I'm only seeing the Station, not Programme icon - which is displayed perfectly for the equivalent DASH streams. I've had a look through BBCOnAir.pm but my rudimentary Perl isn't up to working out how the Programme icon / logo is derived - or why it's working for DASH but not my MP2 stream. Below are two "Radio 4" lines from my menu.opml, the first being the normal UK Listen Live entry and the next my hacked version for the DVB-T source. BBCiPlayer version is 1.5.4.5 running on LMS 7.9.1 under Ubuntu Server 14.04.5 if significant. A few years > back I had a chat to one of the BBC Listen Again developers who I met at a conference and his (very unofficial!) view was that the BBC itself wasn't too bothered about how people accessed their broadcast content - their philosophy was to make it as widely and easily available as possible through pretty much any channel. However very large amounts of third party content (especially sport and recorded audio) came with significant rights restrictions, and the BBC were very worried that unless they enforced visible safeguards to restrict straightforward redistribution then obtaining this content for broadcast would become either impossible or horrendously costly. Since then there have also been the large BBC budget clamps and need to monetise as much of their own content overseas as possible. get_iplayer etc. were and are a definite target but my take was that Squeezeplayer, although non-commercial, was regarded with benign support. This was obviously the personal view of someone fairly far down the food chain, and the thinking may have hardened since then (and many of the internal team have, I think, moved on or the work been outsourced :( ). However I suspect that there may still be some willingness to work with us if a reasonably secure answer could be found? 4x Slim Devices SB3 (White) 1x Boom, 1x Radio 1x Joggler + Squeezeplay / Squeezelite + Topping TP30 florca's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7486 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

They've had versions of this data for several years now, at least for the Radio 3 programmes above, although the format and tags have changed a bit over time. The accuracy, completeness (and sometimes the format and tags used) seem to depend a lot on the individual programme producer or external production company, with the data for Late Junction being generally pretty good, especially since Reduced Listening took over production. Still working really well here with no dropouts across a range of players. Another, probably minor advantage for me is that it provides a high quality stream to my older SB3s and Boom end-end with no transcoding (albeit with the DASH processing in LMS, and can't honestly say that the difference would ever be audible on a Boom!), so slightly lower load on the Server and just seems more elegant. TheLastMan wrote: > UPDATE: > After constant buffering issues > ... so I am migrating over to PlusNet I've come to the conclusion that the DASH streams are VERY sensitive to any tiny network variation or interruption. I've just spent roughly a month trying to figure out a problem whereby all of the Squeezeboxes in the house (Ethernet and WiFi SB3s, WiFi Boom, Ethernet Joggler) would work perfectly on iPlayer DASH apart from a Radio, which despite showing a 100% WiFi signal strength on the Settings>Info page would re-buffer continuously in exactly the way you describe. I'm on PlusNet FTTC at a rock-solid 36Mbps with a consistent (although not static) external IP address. Updated the Plugin to 1.4.9, tried loads of other things (Upgrade / Downgrade of various bits of firmware / software along the chain) but eventually nailed it to some sort of mutual incompatibility between the Unifi WiFi AP I'd bought (which works wonderfully with every other device and Squeezebox in the house) and the Radio. Now, with a different (old TP-Link) AP installed in the loft directly above the Radio, on an SSID dedicated to the Radio (and again showing 100% WiFi signal strength), it works fine. The bizarre thing is that ONLY the iPlayer DASH streams on the Radio were affected - everything else (FLAC / MP3 stuff on the Library, Paradise Radio, other Internet Radio streams) would play just fine on all devices. So... I'm not sure there's any single answer to these problems, but looking through various posts on this thread it seems that any one of a number of tiny variations can cause rebuffering on the DASH streams more easily than other content. And if anyone else is getting strange behaviour with Unifi APs with an SB Radio, then try a different AP (or Ethernet) to eliminate that as an issue! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
One thing which events of the past week have shown is that the BBC is planning and implementing big changes to their whole AOD/VOD/Simulcast platforms, and that although the Squeezebox user community maybe noisy we won't stop or delay these plans. From the various comments on the BBC blog it looks like the main thrust of these changes will revolve around MPEG-DASH, with HLS HDS as interim steps to support current iThings etc. I guess this is really a question for Triode, but if the BBC are talking to you then is there any prospect of an update to the iPlayer plugin with DASH support? From a quick look at the available documentation and test streams linked from ' here' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/blog/2013/09/mpeg-dash-test-streams) the format looks pretty scary, albeit powerful and with some interesting ways to link with EPG metadata. I wonder whether the new ' Freeview Play' (http://www.engadget.com/2015/02/12/freeview-play-on-demand/) service will be based around DASH...? Interesting times... No, that doesn't make any difference. Left the app in focus, playing for c. 10 mins. Screen dims, then blanks. Playback stops shortly afterwards. Volume buttons make no difference. Reactivated via home button, swipe / enter 4 digit unlock PIN. iPeng still in focus, no sound, no playing top row icon (next to battery state) but with playback timer incrementing and iPeng Play / Pause control showing Pause (eg iPeng thinks it's in Playback mode?). tapping play/pause control changes visible state of control and stops / starts playtime counter but no sound no playing top row icon. suspending / activating iPeng via hardware button / iPeng icon returns scrub bar playback position to start of track (as pressed at initial start of playback) and pressing Play now restores playing / sound from start of track. As I said, I can't say for certain that this wasn't happening prior to iOS5 upgrade? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels
Not sure about other server platforms, but if running on Linux (Ubuntu in my case) then this solution: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54713 works really well with my Hauppauge Nova-T card (make sure you get the later version which solved some issues with the first cut). It requires some Perl modules from CPAN but these are pretty easy to acquire. I ran an alternative solution for some years based on DVBSHOUT and ICECAST2 but the code above is a bit more flexible and definitely more stable. Will happily stream multiple stations in parallel from the same multiplex and will re-tune at will to any station. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels
It may seem like sewing a shirt onto a button, but getting a working solution for DVB broadcast radio onto the Squeezeboxes was my main reason for moving from a Windows-based to a Linux server. No previous Linux experience but certainly no regrets - runs on older, lower-spec (and power) hardware and runs reliably for months at a time with no attention at all. Fully understand that this may be too drastic a solution - but worth thinking about? I guess one glimmer of hope is the last phrase in this quote from the Huggers blog posting / announcement: All radio station sites, music events, podcasts and programme pages will be integrated to focus on highly interactive live radio, quick and seamless access to programming, support for new music and personalisation - on whatever internet-connected device you happen to have. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
Working on AAC again, but behaving slightly differently than before on Listen Again - when you first select any programme (at least from the daily schedule menus) it fails (displays stopped on SB3). Press Play again and the stream then starts fine. Similar behaviour on Squeezeplay (displays problem: can't open file for: rtmp://bbcmedia and then sits stopped, displaying the correct artwork for the programme. Checked and the playing stream is 128k / AAC. Tried programmes from R3 R4 with identical results. Live BBC Radio3 HD working fine (connects first time). All of this is in the UK Update - just tried again with a varity of shows and the failure is intermittant - fails most of the time, but with the odd successful connx at 1st attempt. Not a show-stopper and the improved quality makes it well worth changing back to AAC, but curious? Thanks, as ever, for the plugin - at least 2/3 of our Squeezbox use is iPlayer. How about something like: Download this version of SqueezeCenter if you want native AAC+ (you will not be able to use (say) Monkey's Audio/Ogg/Musepack) and you will have to pay a lifetime licence/development fee of $10.00. or Download the standard version of SqueezeCenter. At the risk of complicating the whole thing, how about making the firmware more modular, with the ability to dynamically load/unload additional codec support up to the memory budget. A slightly simpler solution would be a user selectable set of codecs, again limited by the total available memory. This should keep most users happy, as nothing would be lost for those keen to retain OGG or WMA for example. Sounds simple in theory, but probably really tough in practice... bpa;379962 Wrote: I've been thinking about what a recording plugin would look like. That's the easy bit - how would the user stop it.? I've also been thinking about better options for recording off-air live streams, as although get_iplayer and the iPlayer plugins work well they're useless for people outside the UK or for non-BBC shows and also eat Broadband volume if you're on some type of volume-capped ISP deal. The best way, albeit much more practical for Linux users I suspect, would be to use the Now / Next / Schedule data on DVB streams to enable a full PVR solution, which could obviously stop the recording when the programme title changes (leaving also an option for start time / stop time setting?) and allow recording of a list of show names whenever they appear - using the additional data in the DVB SI I think you can also weed out repeats. I guess this is heading towards a greatly cut-down MythTV type system aimed only at Radio and controlled by a Squeezebox plugin The DVBSERVER plugin exposes the Programme Name information and now supports DVB-S, so is good for BBC reception over much of Europe. Not sure if any of the FM options (Radioshark?) exposes RDS data, which could similarly be used to start / stop recording based on Programme Name? So many ideas, so little time. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Recording of Radio Stations
If you're looking for recordings of BBC shows then you may want to look at get_iplayer ( http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/ ) which will deliver high quality MP3 downloads of their last seven days output. Works very nicely! There are various ways to stream and capture FM, DAB and DVB-T/S services - I've been using a combination of DVBSHOUT and Icecast, and there's another neat solution called DVBSERVER on the following thread http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54713 - once you have a Shoutcast-compatible stream then you can grab sections of it using Streamripper (find via Google) for archiving. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] DVB Radio Add-on for Linux
Some pointers - I also have this running on (a much older version of..) Ubuntu Server. I'm assuming you have an Intel/AMD based system and are running the Desktop version of Ubuntu, so some of this may be a bit alien, but let's see where it gets to... 1) open a command prompt and type ps (no quotes)- do you get a result? 2) ditto for mplayer. If so then you have them installed and in the path. Haven't any idea what ps is, but it seems to be installed on my system. 3) There are i386 binaries for getstream and ts2radio within the package. Use the new (recently posted) version of ts2radio to get the correct metadata, and move both binaries into the /usr/bin directory. Ensure both have Execute permissions via chmod uga+x. 4) you will probably need to install the libevent1 package for getstream to function, and may well need to create a symlink for the library name requested by getstream to the equivalent library installed by the Ubuntu libevent1 package. I used the nearest looking match and it seems to work(!). If the library isn't available then getstream spits out lots of messages calling for it, so you should be able to figure out what it wants. 5) Edit dvbserver.pl to reflect your config - if your Nova-T is the only tuner in the system then it is likely to have a card id of 0. If streaming direct MP2 / 48kHz then uncomment the line near the end of the header block which caters for direct MP2 streaming and comment the line above which pipes via LAME. You need to add a PID parameter to the end of the line you just uncommented (just before the final double quote) to get sound out of the thing... Resource utilisation is MUCH lower when using direct streaming. 6) If using direct MP2 (as above) then I don't think it ever tries to call mplayer - so you may not need to mess with it. Have you looked at dvbserver.pl lines 522 525 to figure out what it's trying to do? 7) to run with debug turned on just use dvbserver.pl -d as your command. All this is from memory (I'm still at work) but after a bit of pushing and shoving you should be able to get it working. Results good for me so far...
