I had one but very, very few people ever read it and one problem is that everybody's setup is differently and so much functionality is actually not determined by iPeng but by the server. d6jg wrote: > It will be the player part of iPeng that has the issue I find this very confusing. I've been trying to diagnose it for a while to find out what the actual problem is. Thing is... for me it's not actually iPeng but the server causing issues: Code: -: ERROR while decoding metadata state = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_END_OF_STREAM /Users/joergbeta/Install/Squeezebox/slimserver/Bin/darwin-x86_64/sox FAIL formats: can't open input `-': WAVE: RIFF header not found That's from the server logs. Also... all of the streams actually play for me for a while until I run into these issues which apparently derail things completely. Whenever I was seeing issues they were happening when playing OGG/FLAC and transcoding to a regular FLAC container. I _suspect_ what's happening here is that iPeng forces the server to transcode. The reason is that iPeng doesn't support OGG right now due to another odd issue that prevents Spotify OGG streams to play (and that I have actually no idea what causes it. The stock ogg/vorbis decoder iPeng uses throws errors and I have no idea why these streams work on other setups). So when playing in iPeng the server needs to transcode the OGG/FLAC streams because iPeng requests FLAC and then the server seems to eventually run into issues with the streams and bails out on them. From that point on I see the player no longer responding. @mherger have you looked into the server logs when you tried this? --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 9, the Universal App for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

This is difficult because iPeng would have had to manually implement all the equalization and that would then also probably have to run on one of the co-processing units. That said... just because it's difficult doesn't mean it's impossible and Apple added new filter capabilities (although currently they conflict with the timing requirements iPeng has to guarantee sync), so that might come one day. (And if it is, > does anyone have any suggestions about the best place to start?) > What type os Raspberry Pi is this (what generation) and what file format are you playing? Generally, sync between different player types works but it's a question of timing. Not so much computing power but the exactness of the timing on the player. Where you need computing power is on the server side. Older RPis had very bad timing behavior, that can cause some trouble but newer ones usually work OK. What can make things more difficult is also if the different players support different file formats, if one of them doesn't support something then the server needs to start transcoding. iPeng's limits are that it doesn't support sample rates beyond 96kHz, currently no OGG/Vorbis (because that causes issues with Spotify) and iPeng uses a bigger buffer than other players which can under certain circumstances confuse the server. For the latter, iPeng has a configuration setting in the playback settings. One other thing that often causes trouble is if you stream raw WAV/PCM for lossless formats instead of FLAC (which is the default in LMS). iPeng throws that data directly at iOS but iOS sometimes guesses the sample rate wrong and that can cause all kind of weird effects. If you set your server to transcode to WAV or PCM I'd recommend against that. benh wrote: > > I don't have playback enabled on iPeng, but it seems like iPeng is > showing up as a music source in my car, and I wonder if/how I can change > that behavior. That's a very messy behavior of some car audio systems. Essentially, what the car's system is doing is triggering a play command to be sent to the last active audio App. In your case, that's iPeng. iOS wakes up iPeng and tells it to play, it's like using the lock screen control. If iPeng is still connected to your WiFi it does just that. The correct workaround would be to keep the car audio system from automatically playing music whenever your phone gets connected. Or to make sure iPeng is no longer on WiFi. A workaround would be to use a different audio App after iPeng, that would then play automatically in your car. --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 9, the Universal App for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

jotap_66 wrote: > > > I thought that iPeng worked as a passthrough > > It does. More or less. That's why what you are seeing is confusing me a bit. Have you enabled the Equalizer for iPeng Playback? Here's the thing: you can't really completely passthrough on iOS, you don't really have full access to the USB driver. So you have to play audio through the system audio queue. iPeng does configure this to the bitrate it's getting, though, and is sending the PCM audio data as is. This generally works fine as long as the data is really PCM. If it's not PCM, but just using PCM as a container while sending something else, there can be issues as soon as some part of your system decides that it needs transcoding/bitrate changes. Then your data is no longer correct. In your case it looks indeed like iOS for some reason thinks it needs to transcode the audio data to 44.1/16 or something. Are you sure the DAC worked with HighRes material on that same iPad? If yes, please really check the equalizer settings. My first guess would be what d6jg already suggested: did you maybe sync the iPeng player with your Squeezebox? The SB3 can only play 48/24 so the stream would by transcoded to that format by the server. To play in sync, the stream on both devices needs to be the same. Anothe possible reason could be that you have enabled transcoding for iPeng (bitrate limiting). This is off by default for WiFi connections but on for cellular connections. Please check through the "i" behind "Enable Playback" in "Settings->iPeng Settings". There's a menu item "Bitrate Limiting". Ok, regarding quotes, Im going to have a fix for that in the next update. Its indeed related to quotes not being correctly encoded in the JSON being sent to the server. Tony T wrote: > I wonder if the App will be updated for iOS 14. What updates do you specifically expect? There probably will be a privacy option for the clipboard thing - although technically that has been communicated for years (at least on the blog). And then towards the end of the year I have to remove the web browser, Apple requires that. I was considering home screen widgets, but they are really hard to make useful and since they require Swift they would at least double the executable size of iPeng, Im not sure thats worth it for something essentially just being a big icon for an individual player. You cant display anything useful on them because they are completely passive. Might wait with them for the full Swift rewrite Im working on. It does have some limited capability of playing Bandcamp links through a web browser which precedes the Bandcamp plugin, the browser functionality will have to be disabled later this year (although there should be a replacement). Do you think someone can do > something about this ? > Hi, welcome and congratulations to the first post :) Which LMS version do you use and what kind of virtual libraries (we are talking about virtual libraries, don't we?) do you use? This right now really confuses me because I've used and tested this very feature more than ever before during the last few weeks since Michael has introduced that "Audiobooks" feature in LMS 8 because I've done some testing and optimization of my personal setup WRT this and before you asked I never ran into this and I didn't hear about it from anybody else. I _think_ I can reproduce what you are talking about but I'm not sure, it looks like it's some use case I never tried before... What I'm seeing is that if I start iPeng with a certain library restriction, that restriction is not released for submenu albums list (so e.g. albums for a certain artist or tracks for an album) when I change the library view to something less restrictive. And this _only_ seems to apply to menus that are placed directly on a tab (at the bottom of the screen) in iPeng on iPhone. Is this also what you see? If yes, I'll try to get a fix, until then it might be a workaround to place those menus where it affects you further down the hierarchy in the menu so that you access them through "More.." instead of directly from a tab. I don't have the faintest idea how this could happen. I mean... it's not like iPeng control the stream or something. The only things I could see are: * You have iPeng Playback enabled and iPeng's player is synced with your pCP and somehow stops when it's started, but I assume you have already seen this. * You have some sort of IP conflict on your network, e.g. the iPad uses the same IP address as your player or server. Did you try to reboot your router? * Your server doesn't have enough power to keep the connection to the player when iPeng connects and loads the menu tree. This could especially happen with some plugins that stall the server for a longer time when their menu is being built, like TrackStat (with big menus) or so.

If you see this a lot, theres an option in the players settings (and in iPeng settings in the playback settings) to use a small buffer.

You need to always use player setting from the player list. The player settings on the main menu don't work if you have synced players, then they always refer to the group master (like all menu items on the main menu). They also lack items. I was already looking into completely hiding that menu on the main menu tree but didn't because it's still useful for those 50% of the users having only a single player.

Most of the menu in iPeng is server-provided. Think of iPeng's main menu a bit like a web site in a browser. On a Squeezebox (like Touch or Radio), the whole menu gets retrieved from the server, in iPeng it's still everything except for the main library menus (Albums, Artists, Playlists, Genres, My Apps, Radios, Help and Extras). All other menus can theoretically change all the time. iPeng remembers the menus as long as it's running, but if it gets killed in the background (this is done by iOS when it needs the memory for other activities or apps) it restarts and re-loads the menu. iPeng remembers the whole order of items you have set, but it will always just show the menu items it knows about. This is important if you e.g. switch between MySqueezebox.com and LMS which have pretty different top level menus. So if you added other items to the tab bar, these can only show up after they are loaded from the server. How long this takes depends a lot on your server's wakeup behavior. The server needs to wake up, iPeng needs to connect and then the server has to send the whole menu structure. Depending on how long it takes to power up the server this can take a while and if the server doesn't respond within 30s iPeng also throttles the retry interval to not drain your iPhone battery too much whenever the server can't be found at all. I'm thinking about a different caching behavior for the iPeng redesign but until then keeping the server running is the only way to shorten this.

Not sure if the signature on the file will mess things up or not. I still don't think this is going to work without a jailbreak. But you can try. 1.6.1 is the last original release that supports iOS 4 but most later versions also bundle that very version in the same IPA (you could build fat binaries that contain completely different versions of apps to one binary). The very first 2.0-versions are an exception (because I didn't know this then) and last one (2.0.17) is the other exception because at that time Apple had removed the capability to test these builds and I didn't want to take a risk with what was the last possible build of iPeng Classic on the App Store (long before removing the App itself Apple removed the possibility to update iOS-6-and-before-only Apps). So my recommendation would be 2.0.16 or 1.6.1, most builds in between are similar.

Even though technically the comment is not correct. The App is actually still in the App Store, it's just removed from sale by Apple because it's not compatible with current devices. I've had a ton of discussions with Apple people on this and in the end it doesn't help. They are having a lot of bogus arguments but I think they want people to abandon old OS versions and devices to reduce their support load. The official argument is that it clutters App Store listings which is simply not true because a) App Store listings are filtered for incompatible versions so on a new device you'd never see old Apps and b) technically they are still in their library so they don't save anything on the backend side of things either.

Apple at least claims that the ipa's are signed per AppleID but I'm not sure to which extent that's true.
