Ok, Protel 99 SE,
I had a little trouble following all of that at first, but actually got in there and
started playing around with the scope of the rule for Power Plane Connect Style, and
while I too had never before investigateed the full list allowed by the slider,

Thanks to everyone who responded.
Sat down this morning to test out the various suggestions.
Before doing this I decided to make up the two component footprints and was surprised
to find that I could place them on to a pcb AND place components `under' them without
any problems at all. Wasn't

There are at least four ways, one of which you noted. As you mentioned, one
can create a via different in diameter or hole size (better the former),

John,
Here's the url:

About 3/4 down is a schematics section for part symbols. I'm wondering if
there is a way to import these.
Thanks,

The only drawback with this approach is that when selecting components
within the footprint you get the `popup select component dialog' more an
inconvenience than anything else.
Consider it a feature, not an inconvenience (or bug). It's better for

Sure, there are a few ways to do this. You have to make a rule for the

It is this which is not easy to do. I don't see a way to use the query

2.8 has that option also. Under Options preferences unclick Nearest

I already found it from your post in the DXP list.
I have tried to open these files and export a Orcad library for you but
I keep getting an error on export. The orcad librray you could open in

Wow, someone else who remembers 2.8 better than I do. Hot dawg!
I still keep 2.8 around for the occasional PCB that needs to be manually

I've been running it now for over a year with nothing more than

Good comments and pretty much the workaround I've decided I'm forced to accept. I
really find it hugely stupid that the two processes are disconnected and that such a
problem would be allowed to exist. It leads me to distrust other output processes.
There is even a selection in the print
