Re: A few questions

2017-09-19 Thread Ignasi Cambra
Hello,
Yes, my main use for PT would be to record and mix piano. I usually record with
4 mics, but occasionally use 3 when recording chamber music. Most of the time I
use an Apogee Quartet.
Believe it or not the standard in classical music is Sequoia, because it
apparently has some very special crossfades that work very well. For all
recordings I’ve done for record labels Sequoia was always used, and the
precision with which we could literally edit down to each tiny note on very
complex passages was incredible. In any case I know Pro Tools is used pretty
much everywhere, and honestly I’m sure that for my needs it will do just as
well as Sequoia.
Another question that comes to mind is whether all versions of Pro Tools are
accessible? Is it Pro Tools | HD that I need to buy?
Thanks!

Re: A few questions

2017-09-19 Thread Ignasi Cambra
Hello,
No no, I am a Mac user and own several of them, so I was hoping to use Pro
Tools with VoiceOver.
What would be the best resource for me to get started? Are the Pro Tools with
Speech tutorials still the way to go or would you recommend something more
recent? Weren’t those tutorials recorded on Pro Tools 10?
I would only be mixing and editing acoustic instruments, so would be interested
in something that touches on those topics rather than Midi related issues.
I will check the Pro Tools site now and see if I can get myself a subscription.
Thanks for your help!

Pro Tools versions

2017-09-19 Thread Ignasi Cambra
Hello all,
On my quest to get started with PT I’ve been exploring the Avid website, and
discovered that there are three versions of Pro Tools: Pro Tools | First, Pro
Tools and Pro Tools | HD. Are all of these programs accessible or only Pro
Tools | HD? Would Pro Tools | First be enough for me to get started or is it
extremely limited in terms of what you can do with it?
Thanks again for your help!

Yes, I have been in touch with Slau and he is being incredibly helpful. I may

A few questions

2017-09-19 Thread Ignasi Cambra
Hello all,
First of all I would like to apologize as I’m sure every once in a while people
send emails to this list with this type of questions. I will try and be as
brief as I can.

I am a classical concert pianist and have a fair amount of recording equipment
at home. I have a nice space with a concert grand, and record myself often
while practicing etc. In classical music the DAW that’s used in most cases is
Sequoia by Magix, which includes certain crossfades specifically designed for
us. Sequoia is not available on the Mac, and is not accessible on Windows
either as far as I know. Knowing that Pro Tools is probably not the ideal DAw
for me I am thinking of purchasing it anyways, because I understand it’s fully
accessible with VoiceOver. Is that correct? In principle I don’t plan on
dealing with huge multitrack projects. My projects generally include 4-6
tracks, and essentially what I need is a DAW that will allow me to efficiently
edit audio, making extremely precise cuts at exact points, using crossfades to
transition between different takes etc. Up until now I have been using Reaper
for recording, and then I would render all of my takes to stereo WAV files and
use Audacity to make all the edits, which works surprisingly well. Would I gain
a lot by moving to Pro Tools? Are all of these tasks accessible? Is the latest
version of Pro Tools the best in terms of accessibility with VoiceOver on mac
OS?
Thanks again, and I’m sorry for my ignorance!

Re: App for cutting audio files

2017-09-29 Thread Ignasi Cambra
But why can’t you just get rid of the silence before bouncing the project out
of ProTools? Otherwise a great option is Audacity. It works great for that kind
of simple editing, and is completely free. Be careful though, because as far as
I remember the latest version does not work with VoiceOver. On their website
they tell you which version is accessible, so you should download that one.
Amadeus Pro is also great and very accessible, but you will have to pay for it.

Re: Import problem

2017-12-02 Thread Ignasi Cambra
Hey Niklas,
Most likely the problem is that you have updated your system to Mac OS High
Sierra. In any case you are using a version of ProTools that’s too old for the
operating system you are running. I believe Avid hasn’t officially approved
High Sierra yet, but if you update to the latest ProTools version (12.8.2)
things should mostly work fine. If you are not on High Sierra I would still
recommend that you update ProTools, which will most likely solve the issue.
Best,

I did mention burn on that thread a few weeks ago. It’s very accessible and
works great, even for creating DVDs with menus. Someone said that it can’t be

that. I think for most people it’s a good option.

Re: Flotools and Protools question

2018-02-18 Thread Ignasi Cambra
If I were you I would stick to the English version of Pro Tools, if that’s what
you mean by display language. It’s OK if your operating system is in a language
other than English, but I think using Flo Tools with ProTools in a different
language will give you trouble.

Re: Strange Cuts while editing small pieces

2018-07-28 Thread Ignasi Cambra
Hello,
Excuse me if I’m wrong here, as I am traveling and maybe I have my ProTools
keyboard commands mixed up. If you want to move the right selection boundary
you would use cmd shift + and -, not cmd + and -. Same applies to the left
selection boundary: you would use option shift + and -, not option + and -. The
commands that you are trying to use trim whatever clip you have selected, which
is why you say you are losing audio. If you want to use them you can create
edits at the beginning and end of your selection to end up with a clip that
contains the audio you actually want to work on, and if you have that new clip
selected you should be able to do things the way you were describing. Hope this
helps!

Re: deleting selection does nothing

2018-07-22 Thread Ignasi Cambra
If you have only one track in the session you can also interact with the tracks
table and select it from there. If you are having this issue and it looks like
the track is selected just press Vo space to unselect it, and then Vo space to
select it again. This should fix the problem without having to add another
track. At least that’s the way I do it.

Your insertion cursor is not in the track. Make sure you have another

move it back to the original track, then delete the waveform. BTW, the
edit tools don't matter because you're only using keyboard commands for
the insertion cursor. Edit tools only matter when you're using the mouse
pointer and clicking within the clips themselves.

To activate the inspector you need to use the regular / key, which is to the

Re: Problem with edit selections

Pressing enter should take you back to the beginning of the project and clear
the selection, but another way of doing this is to just press the down or up

edit cursor will be right where the beginning of the selection used to be. Same
for the up arrow. Hope it helps!

With the FloTools inspector on pressing V ones on a track reads the volume.
Pressing V twice puts it back to 0 DB.

Re: iZotope Ozone 9 VoiceOver Accessibility in Pro Tools?

2020-06-18 Thread Ignasi Cambra
Yes, parameters show up as expected and you can adjust them with VoiceOver, so
I don't see why you couldn't use fader flip on your control surface. As for
master assistant you can't access it at all unless you install VOCR, which is
useful for all sorts of things anyways.

Thanks,

Re: iZotope Ozone 9 VoiceOver Accessibility in Pro Tools?

2020-06-16 Thread Ignasi Cambra
It depends on the modules, but most parameters are visible to automation which
is good for us. features such as master assistant can be used with VOCR inside
of Pro Tools. I would probably recommend the Advanced version since you get all
modules as separate plug-ins besides the main Ozone plug-in which also contains
all of them. This is very useful since adding, dragging, and removing modules
from the chain is not accessible on the main plug-in.

I haven't had to do this myself, but I'm pretty shure a good way of getting
this done would be to use Automator. Have a look at it and let us know how it
goes!

Martin,

If I were you I would really give Automator a try. Maybe you think it's
complicated if you're not used to it, but once you get used to the interface
it's very, very useful for things like this.

Re: About macbook pro with touch bar

2021-03-16 Thread Ignasi Cambra
I personally don’t like the touch bar. Don’t take me wrong, it’s perfectly
usable and it works well with VoiceOver, but in my case I found that I never
used it, and when I did it was mostly as function keys. If I were you I would
probably wait for a few months and get the next Macbook Pro model, which is
likely to bring the standard keyboard back, without the touch bar. Physical
function keys are important for me when using PT, and as much as I do like
using an external extended keyboard when working at home, I also want to be
able to work comfortably on the laptop itself.

Hope that helps,

Unfortunately, I would imagine that making this software accessible would
be next to impossible. I am sure that it relies heavily on isolating
specific components in the wave forms of the audio. Being able to identify
these components would be very difficult. It is an amazing concept though.
We certainly are in very exciting times now as far as audio production is
concerned. I work with someone who does enjoy playing around with stuff.
I’ll see if he can be interested in checking out the demo.

Yes, you can perfectly use PT with Chi's Virtual Extended Keyboard which ships
with Flo Tools. It's very comfortable once you get used to it.

Re: My profuse apology guys: I got ProTools working

2023-03-15 Thread Ignasi Cambra
I have often seen these errors when running PT in an unsupported OS. If I had
to guess I would say that's the problem. Is Ventura officially supported by
Avid yet?
