And if I may add:
Even if the users are aware of the fact that ubuntugis-unstable contains the
current releases, it can be hard to impossible to convince a GIS-ignorant
system administrator that it is OK to install “unstable” packages.

But this issue is not a QGIS issue I guess...

Looks like it's hard for people to accept that there are also ubuntu packages

I was thinking about it last night (and I was up way to late) and it is a bit
confusing for the casual user. They've installed Ubuntu (or
mint/debian/xubuntu/etc) and they may not understand ubuntu is based off
debian. So like you said - they see debian but want to use Ubuntu. They go to
UbuntuGIS and they see the repositories for UbuntuGIS and the choice is
unstable (and no one likes unstable software) and stable (which doesn't contain
the newest software). So you end up going "Use Unstable because it's stable and
current".

Under my /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory I made a qgis.list file

and put the following in there:

deb http://qgis.org/debian xenial main

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu xenial main

Why? That are the packages not based on ubuntugis with the dependencies from

ubuntugis.
Do I have this wrong? I thought I had the repositories for the install correct
based off the directions on qgis.org. Which I could completely have it wrong.
With the above repos I'm getting QGIS 2.16.x and GDAL 2.1.x.

[Qgis-user] Fail to commit changes to SQL database

2016-09-13 Thread Johanna Botman

I'm working on a [road] line layer and changing the geometry so that it
matches the aerial image. I can make some changes and save them, but then
suddenly I can't save anymore changes.
In the yellow line at the top of the canvas it says Commit Errors: Could
not commit changes to layer [road]. When I click the 'show more' it simply
says 'Errors: ERROR: [x] geometries not changed'

I can shut QGIS down and restart it. Then I still cannot change that last
geometry that caused the issue, but I can change others until I get that
message again. I have rebooted my machine and I made a little more progress
but still come up against the error.

My research in stack exchange yielded nothing in relation to SQL server,
but I asked our IT to have a look at the logs anyway. They said there was
nothing in the SQL logs either.

I am using QGIS 2.14.4 and this particular table is on a SQL server.

Any ideas?

Use a background to see if that's it. You can use the open layer plugin. Be
careful, that plugin will change the project CRS. You can change it back or
you can make sure "crs on the fly " is activated.

If that is not it. Right click on the layer and redefine the layer CRS, then

[Qgis-user] Raster algebra: RGB feature extraction

2016-09-13 Thread Peter Löwe
Hi list,

here is a question on how to extract spatial features from a RGB raster with
the raster calculator.

Here's the situation:

- I am using QGIS 2.12.3 Lyon
- The goal is to extract a feature from an aerial photo as a binary map (e.g. a
winding clearly yellow colored linear feature)
- A RGB-raster was imported from PNG.
- The raster can be properly displayed.
- A object-query on the yellow colored feature gives a RGB value of
channel1:255  channel2:255 channel3:0
- A first naive approach was to calculate
(("image@1"=255)AND("image@2"=255))AND("image@3"=0). This resulted in a raster
of 0s.
- Multiples trials showed that also the calculation of individual raster layers
of image@1=255 ,image@2=255 and image@3=0 also result in empty rasters.
- More trial and error showed that individual calculation of image@1 > 200 ,
image@2 > 200 and image@3 < 30 give reasonable results each. Chaining these
binary maps (again) with AND leads yet gain to an empty result.

I have a bit of a GRASS background so probably I'm thinking too much along the
lines of r.mapcalc.

Any comments on what I am doing wrong would be much appreciated.

best,
Peter

I don't think the confusion is between Debian and Ubuntu. Most Ubuntu
users know that their OS is Debian-based.
The problem lies in that there are three different repos which offer
QGIS: the base ubuntu packages, qgis.org and the ppa. And the last two
are split into separate stable, unstable, and testing where "unstable"
(in keeping with the Ubuntu policy) is actually the current stable package.

Under my /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory I made a qgis.list file
and put the following in there:

deb http://qgis.org/debian xenial main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu xenial main

Why? That are the packages not based on ubuntugis with the dependencies from
ubuntugis.

Re: [Qgis-user] xml metadata in PostGIS table

2016-09-13 Thread Schweitzer, Peter
Richard,

In PostgreSQL, I store some whole documents as XML, using

create table something (
  rec_id integer,
  record xml
  );

and then insert like this:

insert into something (rec_id,record) values ( 1,XMLPARSE (DOCUMENT
'<...'));
By defining the field "record" as xml, I can use XML functions within
PostgreSQL to look at the contents (though I rarely do this). But the
parsing step also catches improper XML and rejects the insert with an
error message, very helpful.

Is this the sort of information you're after?

Re: [Qgis-user] Ubuntu updating instructions

2016-09-13 Thread Randal Hale
I don't think it's necessarily ignorance - the word unstable means "no
stable; not firm or firmly fixed; unsteady" [1]. At my old place of
employment software that was in any way related to the work "unstable"
would never get installed or tested.

UbuntuGIS-unstable isn't unstable. BUT - it has that word associated
with it. It is confusing for users. If we told the windows users to grab
their installation files from a directory labeled *unstable* there would
be much unhappiness.

newer dependencies from - and only from - ubuntugis-unstable.

Looks like it's hard for people to accept that there are also ubuntu
packages

in a directory called debian and that probably makes them jump on the other

because it has ubuntu in it's name.

I was thinking about it last night (and I was up way to late) and it
is a bit confusing for the casual user. They've installed Ubuntu (or
mint/debian/xubuntu/etc) and they may not understand ubuntu is based
off debian. So like you said - they see debian but want to use Ubuntu.
They go to UbuntuGIS and they see the repositories for UbuntuGIS and
the choice is unstable (and no one likes unstable software) and stable
(which doesn't contain the newest software). So you end up going "Use
Unstable because it's stable and current".

Under my /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory I made a qgis.list file

and put the following in there:

debhttp://qgis.org/debian  xenial main

debhttp://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu  xenial
main

Why? That are the packages not based on ubuntugis with the dependencies
from

ubuntugis.

Do I have this wrong? I thought I had the repositories for the install
correct based off the directions on qgis.org. Which I could completely
have it wrong. With the above repos I'm getting QGIS 2.16.x and GDAL
2.1.x.

Ciao Matteo,
Benvenuto.

altra possibilità e che tu abbia settato come opzione "Quando si carica un
layer senza SR: usa SR predefinito".

ricercarlo in futuro.

ciao

experiencing crashes when trying to use the QgsRelationEditorWdet. The site
https://hub.qgis.org/issues/14956 says the issue was corrected by changing
a file qgsdualview.cpp, I cannot find this file in my QGIS install or
anywhere on my system. I don't see any readme's or other directions.
Does anyone know how to implement this fix?
Will it work on LTR 2.14.6?

I answer myself,

Finally I have done the following steps:

   - create the layout of a page 1
   - export as template (qpt)
   - edit the template with Notepad ++
   - replace page = "1" page = "2"
   - add the second page of my composition
   - Import the template (qpt)

So, I get copied to the same place all the elements at once but on page 2.

Best regards,

2016-09-13 Thread Tyler Veinot
Matthias;
Ooop's I forgot to add that I was building the form in Qt Designer and not
from within QGIS, although with this information is really good and is
showing me things I didn't quite understand before. I am a very visual
person I find it hard to understand things without seeing it in a diagram
or some other example. Took me forever to figure out dog gears and
differential gears until I tore apart my first bicycle and rear end; as
soon as I seen it I got it.
This is my relationship defined in QGIS thus far

When I add an address to the work order I need to write the wo_id of my
work order and my unique_id of my address to my jtbl_cwo table. So when I,
or someone, opens a work order it will show them a list of address
associated to that one work order. Also need to do the same thing with
primary assets, so the form will look something like this in QGIS;

Of course the unique_id will be referencing a value from the civic_points
"address" but that is that I am trying to accomplish. I did it in
LibreOffice and Access but I would like to consolidate it all into one
database with one interface, i.e. QGIS. That way I can edit features, add
assets, and do most of my daily tasks in one application.
Is there an example of this being done in QGIS anywhere?

Re: [Qgis-user] Raster calculator script failing for multiple rasters

2016-09-13 Thread Nicolas Cadieux
Hi,

I have never use the Qgis raster calculator via Python so I can't help there.
What is the problem? Does Qgis crash? If so, the rasters may be to big for the
memory. You mentioned the rasters were very big and that may be the problem.
I recommend you test the calculation with smaller rasters. I think they are
working for a solution for the big raster math.

Saga and gdal calculator may help. Saga will probably try to load everything
in memory an may crash. Gdal is made to calculate very big rasters but layers
must be in the same CRS and have the same pixel posting and extent. You can
use it direction in the Osgeo command prompt or via processing.

Re: [Qgis-user] Move many item to another page

2016-09-13 Thread DelazJ
Ok. Unless I really misunderstand your need, let me try to reword what I
already wrote:
- select your itemS by holding the Shift key and click each of them or
doing a click and drag over the items
- press Ctrl + C to copy these selected items
- move your mouse to the page 2
- and while your mouse is over this page, paste the items with Ctrl + V:
you should have your items also in page 2 now
- move to each of the next pages, and repeat Ctrl + V

 Hi Carlos,

 Simply select the items, copy/cut and paste them while your mouse is

 Note that you can also use the shortcut of the "paste in place" to have
 the items at the same place in the other page. Only the shortcut works, not
 clicking the tool from the Edit menu.

[Qgis-user] "Time Manager" - Offset units

2016-09-13 Thread h
I have a couple of questions about the "Time Manager" plugin - firstly
Is this the right place for me to post them to?
This is the first of a couple of questions I have, so please redirect me
to the correct place if this is not it.

My first question is concerning the "Offset" field when adding layers.
I have a dataset I want to step through in years showing data for
current year and previous year.
I can do this, by setting the offset for the 'previous' year
as 3200. I am guessing that the offset is in seconds (there are
about 32 million seconds in a year)

* Is my guess correct that the offset is in seconds?
* Can I change the unit of the offset (I would like to use years)?
* If the offset can only be entered in seconds, I will improve my
approximation of 32 million seconds, but what do I do about leap years?

Many thanks,
H

2016-09-13 Thread Tyler Veinot
Matthias;
Thanks, I don't know what I would do without you! Coding isn't normally an
issue but that tutorial didn't quite explain where to put the coding. When
I opened the UI file in IDLE it looked like XML, and there were no other
files associated with the form. I also opened the "see code" option and it
was the same looked like XML; it might have been C++ but I have no training
or experience with C++ so I wouldn't know if it looked similar to XML from
the "untrained eye" point of view.
Going to be doing some testing on the versioning bit here this week, hope
to have something a little more concrete to say about it soon.

This is something we've been working on for archaeological use cases.
At the moment we digitise our sections using false coordinates, then
use composer to show both the plan and section views. We cheat by
storing the 2D plan coordinates in real space so they show up in
spatial queries and can be visualised by setting a buffer around them,
but they're not really linked in a data or ui sense.

Longer term, I have a cunning plan to start using the new-ish 3D
geometry engine to store the sections in 3D so they can live in the
same shapefiles and so be properly queried, and by clicking on the
section line in plan view a pop-up window shows the section by
flipping the y and z coordinates on the fly. Unfortunately it's on a
very long list of such ideas...

There's also a plugin called Midvatten which does borehole data which
may have some ideas you could borrow.

John.

Sorry,
I don't really get how my answer doesn't fill your need. The way you move
one item is the same for multiple.
In a composer, you can select many items by click-and-drag or with Shift
key pressed. Then simply cut (ctrl +x) them and paste them in the target
page (also work betwenn two different print composers).
You can also move them with the mouse when the pointer looks like a filled

2016-09-13 Thread R HG
Hi,

I'm trying to do raster calculations with big and multiple rasters. I am
new to python, but I managed to use the QgsRasterCalculator algorithm to do
the average of three rasters.

The problem comes when I introduce a forth layer and try to do a more
complex equation:

#calculating c4s ( [c1-c2]*[c0-c3] )

#F1_30
A=processing.getObjectFromUri(path + "/F1_30c1.tif")
B=processing.getObjectFromUri(path + "/F1_c2.tif")
C=processing.getObjectFromUri(path + "/F1_30c0.tif")
D=processing.getObjectFromUri(path + "/F1_c3.tif")

entries=[]
rasA=QgsRasterCalculatorEntry()
rasA.ref='A@1'
rasA.raster=A
rasA.bandNumber=1
entries.append(rasA)

rasB=QgsRasterCalculatorEntry()
rasB.ref='B@1'
rasB.raster=B
rasB.bandNumber=1
entries.append(rasB)

rasC=QgsRasterCalculatorEntry()
rasC.ref='C@1'
rasC.raster=C
rasC.bandNumber=1
entries.append(rasC)

rasD=QgsRasterCalculatorEntry()
rasD.ref='D@1'
rasD.raster=D
rasD.bandNumber=1
entries.append(rasD)

F1_30c4=QgsRasterCalculator('(( A@1 - B@1 ) * ( C@1 - D@1 ))', path +
'/F1_30c4.tif', 'GTiff', base.extent(), base.width(), base.height(),
entries).processCalculation()

I think that the problem is recognising the formula. I have tried it on the
console doing several changes and it doesnt work.

Is it possible to do this operation with QgsRasterCalculator?? Or how can I
use the gdal_calc algorithm or the saga raster calculator??

Thanks all

Re: [Qgis-user] Profile section digitising

2016-09-13 Thread Luigi Pirelli
+i for Vincent and oslandia

it's a good practice to advice to avoid duplicate work!

btw, there is an interesting PR by Alvaro Huarte related with multiple
map canvas... IMHO can be a good generic platform (if extended) to be
a container for vertical profiles, or whatever in a different
projection... or simply use webview annotations.

cheers
Luigi Pirelli

Hi Nicolas,

Fresh install on my network machine and my local machine for qgis-ltr and for
qgis on my local machine resulted in a clean load of the 4 rasters. Thanks for

Re: [Qgis-user] Move many item to another page

2016-09-13 Thread DelazJ
Hi Carlos,

Simply select the items, copy/cut and paste them while your mouse is over
the target page.
Note that you can also use the shortcut of the "paste in place" to have the
items at the same place in the other page. Only the shortcut works, not
clicking the tool from the Edit menu.

[Qgis-user] Update multiple features in relation

2016-09-13 Thread Karl-Magnus Jönsson
Hi!
I'd like to update all related records(children) in a sub form. Is there a way
to do that? To have the Field calculator in the sub form would be a nice
solution. But it isn't there (yet). Does anyone have a workaround?

We at Oslandia are currently developping just that.
It will be available later this year or january 2017 at the latest.
Please be a bit patient.
Do not hesitate to ask if you want further information, Vincent Mora
