my guess would be, that they would have to be too big to produce the same light, and probably too fragile. LEDs are almost there though. there was a 7 headlight unit made for the mod for the landrovers. we can buy one unit not for roughly £450.. so i stayed with the halogen bulb! eg:

adrian flux, insured me with trinity lane. they agreed to insure me on the chassis number only pretty much indefinietly. they just asked for me to get it registerd as quick as possible. I would give them a try. they did it for me back in feb 2009 and for a friend last dec. hope this helps.
