You could add a new "launcher" button to the XFCE panel, and for it's
execute command, follow this example for the tor browser (under section:
How to use Tor Browser behind TorVM), but other applications should
work in the same way:

If you use the mouse to manage Keepassx, it will auto-type for you into
the popup box. In newer versions, this annoying behavior has been
disabled.

[qubes-users] Display section of XFCE panel from another VM in Dom0?

2017-02-17 Thread HawKing
As a generalization of my previous question:

I've seen screenshots (Joanna's:

where a section of the panel seems to be showing the XFCE menubar from
another VM, such as sys-firewall. Perhaps I'm interpreting the colors
wrong, but I can't seem to figure out how to accomplish this. Does
anyone have any tips?

very loud, but still good to hear.

For the first i thought it was just a malfunction of the laptop and i
send it back. But now i have a new one and become just the same problem.

I think it has something to do with the virtualization.
But i have no idea how can virtualization crash something in that way.

Cubes was running on SSD in the optical bay.

So as it seems, i crashed with qubes the second laptop and i don't know,
what should i tell the seller now.

Do somebody have an idea?

Look up "laptop coil whine". The sound is usually accompanied by a
"chattering" or "clicking" as the power supplied to different components
is modulated. I believe systems made between 2007 and 2010 were
especially prone to this effect.

Virtualization can affect the power consumption patterns on the
motherboard, perhaps making the effect more noticeable.

What do you mean by switching to onbord VGA ? Did you change someting on your
BIOS or did you change the way you plug your monitor with your computer ? (HDMI

I havn't see any option in my BIOS about onbord VGA and I have no VGA plug

Also, you should compare the contents of /home between the template and

You don't say how you are starting the program.

I assume that you have an entry for Cryptomator in the menu list for the
appVM. (Check this!) If you haven't use the "Add more shortcuts" entry ,
and try to use the new entry.

It works for me - did you make sure that you restarted the appVM after
closing down the Template?

certainly if I use the desktop file from the menu then it works, but
trying to start at command line throws errors.(I mean just running
/opt/Cryptomator/Cryptomator.)But after the first time it seems to work
fine.

It does sound like coil whine... When you plugged your laptop in, it
changed the power usage profile of the motherboard. VT-d could be a
factor, but the real culprit is components that are falling out of spec.

A common trigger of coil whine for older laptops was USB power saving. I
wouldn't be surprised if the noise changed on your system by assigning
(or un-assigning) USB controllers to sys-usb, for example (this is also
related to VT-d). You may also be able to reduce the noise by changing
USB power-saving parameters in sys-usb.

Well you haven't said how you intend to add launcher commands to your
i3.
What HawKing has shown you is a template for the command that you need
to run in dom0 to launch programs in a dispVM:
"echo | /usr/lib/qubes/qfile-daemon-dvm qubes.VMShell dom0 DEFAULT
red"

You could create desktop files based on the existing ones that you will
find in /usr/local/share/applications

You dont say where you have copied it to.

Since you get "permission denied" check ownership of the files, with ls
-l, and that you have the ./jameica.sh file set to be executable. (Try
"sudo chmod +x jameica.sh" )

[qubes-users] Qubes 3.2 Windows VM Template clock issues

2017-02-17 Thread qubesnewbie17
Hello,

I have tried unsuccessfully to fix the problem with the UTC / local time clock
issues in the Windows template VM I created, and have not been successful.

I have set up a Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit template, installed Qubes windows
tools on it, and updated the template's registry in the appropriate place first
with the RealTimeIsUniversal DWORD = 1. When that did not work, I tried adding
the same registry key with QWORD = 1 (64 bit system).

This still did not fix the clock problem, and my Windows template and any HVMs
based off of it remain 5 hours off the Unix system time (UTC)

Any help / insight as to how to fix this problem is greatly appreciated.

[qubes-users] Hardware problems after using Qubes 3.2

2017-02-17 Thread evo
Hi everybody!

I have the very strange problem after using qubes.
It's hard to describe.

My Laptop (Thinkpad T520 4243) is now a bit louder and by going on
buttons, links and everything that has to do with grafics (plaing
videos, loading software or website) makes noise that is similar to the
noise of HDD while it works (i have SSDs). Just strange cracking. Not
very loud, but still good to hear.

Do somebody have an idea?

thanks!

[qubes-users] Installed software in template not running in appvm - cryptomator

2017-02-17 Thread dumbcyber
I've installed Cryptomator in my Fedora-24 template vm and tested it - works
fine. The install also installed some dependencies.

When I try to run the software in any Fedora-24 appvm's I get nothing. No
errors, no GUI starting.

Any ideas where i can look for errors? Thanks.

Re: [qubes-users] Global updates question

2017-02-17 Thread Fabrizio Romano Genovese
Thanks everyone, that code does exactly what I wanted. Calling
bash /etc/qubes-rpc/qubes.InstallUpdatesGUI
with qvm-run for a given VM produces the same result of uptating the VM via
qubes-manager.

Thanks for your Time,
Fab

and riseup has been ungaged regarding their court order:

https://riseup.net/en/about-us/press/canary-statement

"After exhausting our legal options, Riseup recently chose to comply
with two sealed warrants from the FBI, rather than facing contempt of
court (which would have resulted in jail time for Riseup birds and/or
termination of the Riseup organization). The first concerned the public
contact address for an international DDoS extortion ring. The second
concerned an account using ransomware to extort money from people."
