cream details). Well, it came back from paint and Riv didnt have any SO decals.
They called and asked if I'd be ok with it getting QB decals. They let me
choose the headbadge. So I have a Riv-approved Quickbeam that

He was a visionary leaving IF to start ANT. He doesn’t get the credit he

What an amazing story! Several years back, my girlfriend (now wife) and I rode
from Seattle, WA to Cape Cod, MA. It was just the two of us and we camped
almost every night and cooked all of our meals on a small backpacking stove.

I think the MUSA frames were around 2010 and only in limited sizes (56 and
60?). I first heard a rumor of MUSA Sams around 2009-2010 from a Riv dealer.
Grant did write about them and the reasons they were made but I forget if it
was a Reader or Blug entry. I’d call and see if they have a record

IIRC, at the time Grant was playing around with the name Rosco Bubbe. First as
a new model name. I believe that eventually became the JoeAppa. He went as far
as putting stick on letters on a prototype. One of things he did was switch the
initial letter— so Bosco Rubbe. The bike name changed and

arrived and the quality looks as good as my Rodeo or Ram. The MIT bikes seem

I have a Simpleone that was damaged in shipping. I shipped it back to Riv and
they repainted it (hunqa green with cream details). They didn’t have Simpleone
decals so they used Quickbeam decals and badge. Is it a Simpleone? Is it a
Quickbeam? (Does it matter?). I think that is a good reflection
REI is a powerhouse in the outdoor industry. That is crazy news considering
some of those brands are market leaders. I’d guess this is going to turn into a
game of chicken— who will blink first. I wouldn’t bet against REI.

a bike you think is stolen to try and return it to the rightful owner is also a

I think it is technically theft but the person’s intentions matter here AND
would matter a great deal to the police and/or judge. How many times has
someone posted on this list that they bought a Rivendell because they suspected
it was stolen? There was one only a few weeks ago. Purchasing
$1000 in 1999 is just about $1500 in 2018 accounting for inflation. When USA
made frames are going for double, triple, or more since 1999 I don’t think “out
of control” is a totally crazy opinion. I might not agree with it but I think
it’s within the realm of normal and acceptable opinions.

It does seem the Sam has changed more than other bikes. When the Sam was
conceived the idea was having few sizes that would fit more people. This was
new in the Rivendell line up. It seems like most of what has changed is top
tube and seat tube lengths. I’d guess this is just an evolution of
"Don't get a 51.” That’s definitely an interesting line. I’d guess there is
something different about the sizing, that they are experimenting with some
aspect of the geometry, and/or there is some information that Rivendell wants
anyone who buys one to know before they buy— tire clearance?, toe
