I recently installed a Hetre on a brand new Synergy rim. No problem seating the
tire correctly so it looks like the example on Jan's blog post, but the tire
doesn't mount so that it's evenly round. That being said, I have the same
problem with Hetres on Dyads as well. I've found them very hard
Used these for a couple of weeks, then switched over to Hetres. Barely
perceptible wear--I loaned my bike to an old lady who only rode it to church
(just kidding, but these are in virtually pristine condition).

I agree that a new wheelset should come with skewers. Perhaps they were
assuming that, with an expensive wheelset, you would want to choose your own?

Chains are cheap. I would definitely consider buying a new one. Have you put a
chain checker on it to see if it's overly worn? If the master link was this far
gone, chances are the rest of the chain is going to have problems as well.
