When I bought mine, Riv offered me my choice of bars -- noodle,
mustache or albatross. I chose mustache. My rims were Mavic but it
wouldn't surprise me if they used Araya also at some point. Are you
looking for authenticity?

I've had Big Apple 50s on my QB, and now I run Marathon Supreme 40s. Both
handle fine. I switched because the BA's, albeit incredibly comfortable,
were slower than I wanted. The MS 40s are a great fit for the QB and quick
enough for my purposes.

Agreed. You should stand behind the bike to spread the dropouts and pull
the wheel up into them. I put a 130 in 126, and a 126 in a 122 all the
time. You won't damage the frame -- another benefit of steel.

My experience is the same as yours, Steve. I've toured with some
quite large panniers on the rear (the old Eclipse Professional
panniers) and never had any problems with my heels clipping the bags.
Many rear panniers are tapered to prevent contact with heels.
