I can attest to the installation of honjo fenders. It's similar to
wrestling a wool sweater on an alligator. While it's sounds impossible it
really is. The bike looks good. The dents and scratches will add character
to the fenders.

I suffer from the same issue. I love rear bags for extra stuff but the bag
always rubs a hole in the rear. I'm usually partial to rear racks, but
never find myself using the rear rack to it's full potential. I have a
Nitto m12 rack that I'm going experiment with by throwing on the rear.

I find myself incredibly lucky and fortunate to be able to do rides this
far and this long. I have very supportive love ones and I'm lucky enough
that I have the time to do these rides. I find out more about myself every
time I do rides like these. For this Populaire I learned that it was okay
the Bay Area... Perhaps multiple days, kinda like the Best of
the Best... That would be some event, and one that would likely draw
riders from around the country.

Nothing beats New Bike Day. Rode the new bike to work. It was funny because
my student's seem more excited about the bike then I am. LIke any new
shiny thing with wheels, all the kids wanted to ride it. I'm not good at

Having been inspired by many people on the forum to ride a Randonneur
event, I'm planning to ride the populaire this Saturday. Anyone else

I like this. Being a stubborn, self-doer of sorts, I dislike not
working on my own bike. I believe that we are all makers of our own
destiny and we should be have some physical aspect of building or
maintaining our own bikes. That way if something breaks or falls off
you know it's your fault.

Wow that amazing. Makes me feel bad about myself. My meager 60ish
miles on geared road bike seemed hard to me.

Agreed. I never really knew Jay as a personally. My visits to the shop
always consisted small talks with Jay. Sometimes on a rare occasion, I
would catch him around Berkeley and we would exchange cycling nods. I
was always star-struck whenever I saw him. The pictures on the site
and his videos
Ride report made me smile! Pictures make me jealous! All we have here
in California is gloomy dark days coming up ahead of us. I won't mind
the snow that looks like fun to ride through. Riding in the rain is
fun, but only for the first few times. When are you planning to

I've done this with some old campy wheels after buying from a garage
sale in San Francisco. Rich from Rivendell does this with his orders
on his big dummy. I'm pretty sure theres a picture of that floating
around the internet somewhere.
