The "network communication failed" message was seen in the network
browser Retro 4.3 Mac, when i went to configure the remote: the first
two panes were OK, but the last one (Volumes) failed with the
aforesaid error message.

I'm setting up Retrospect 4.2 on a Mac to backup to a USB-attached CDRW drive with a
Mitsumi mechanism. It appears the mechanism might not be supported by Retrospect as it
does not work. I can burn and erase CDs using Toast so the drive functions OK.

I did five scripts and five StorageSets, one for each workday, and they all
were executed with a Recycled Backup.
Maybe I can have just
* DAT Tape drive - DDS3 or DDS4 attached to a PowerMac 7300,
probably Sony (or LaCie which I think uses a Sony mechanism), no
particular reason to go with Sony.
* Retrospect 4.3 with clients on each of the Macs.
I've had a lot of problems with the Tape changer put out by Sony.

Sorry, obviously I need to read a bit better, or at least slower. The Mac
mention made me somehow think this was a SCSI drive. The bottom line here is
that unfortunately, we don't support the tape drive you are using.
Retrospect does not support parallel port tape or CD-R/RW drives.
We
Will support for this drive be forthcoming or do I need to purchase a new
drive?

Same thing appears when backing up a local folder on the server.

after many years of using retrospect blissfully, I'm at whit's end
with the latest upgrade. It crashes every hour or so on my G4. Error
type 2, Error type 11 and bus errors all the time. I'm running a very
simple back up server script with a number of clients on the LAN.
