So for a change we where the last to arrived instead of being one of the first as usual. Indeed on display, the Sam-Spectrum-bus, weird to see a Spectrum Kempston interface working on a Sam, but even better was the PC-ZX interface working with that Sam-Spectrum-Bus. Again something usefull for PC to do, acting as a file-server for the Sam. And indeed we are working on a GUI for use with B-dos and a Atom, but don't hold your breath for it, we are hoping to show at least an Alpha version on the HCC-dagen wich are being held at last weekend of november in Utrecht (Note: Rijkswaterstaat will still be working on the A12, take alternative route). The HCC-dagen is another thing that take some time, since i am also one of those responsible in organising this on behalf of the HCC-Sinclair Users Group, i spend yesterday more time on it than i had actually planned, sorry for that, but i will make up for that once the HCC-dagen are there :) For more info on the HCC-dagen, http://www.hccdagen.nl/ -- Robert van der Veeke Currently listening to: Perfect Rouge - Samply Red Yukari: Crap! However, the following command-line utility will let you copy to and from real SAM disks under XP: http://www.simcoupe.org/SamDiskNT.zip Run it without any parameters for basic instructions. PS2 Keyboard Interface
Finally installed, it works perfectly. Now you can use a keyboard on your lap, sit back and relax while playing with a real Sam. I must say 54 pounds is a lot of money but i now can say that it is money well spend. To Collin Piggot, i don't have the photo's yet of the thing fitted and we did not install exactly as you described in the manual. The nine-pens connector has been soldered directly to the underside of the PCB instead as described on the top, leaving room for the keyboard membrame if you still want to use that. The PS2-connector is still outside the Sam, but since i don't use the seccond drive i am going to fit that on the frontside where normally drive 2 would be located. Anyone on this list, who is planning to come to Urmond in 2 weeks time, I know that Wolfang will be there, Frans can´t make it and Martijn is riding with me so he has no other choice than to be there? What is Urmond? Well it is the seccond time that we are organising a international meeting of Sinclair and Sam users. The place is Urmond and if you take a look here http://www.hobby.nl/~sinclair-gg/ International HCC-Sinclair Meeting 2e Internationale Sinclair en Sam Dagen (ISSD): 27 en 28 april : 09.00 - 18.00 u, Place: Urmond in Limburg (Netherlands) in the Van der Valk motel. 2. If Edwin is still on the list, any idea when you do a update on your Screenviewer, i have now still use version 1.27 but it still won´t load a disk even if only the last track (with nothing on it) is corrupt, i thought you mentioned in the past a version that would fix that problem? Re: Pictures from PC to Sam... How?
-Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: Raymond Ennifer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Aan: sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no Datum: woensdag 10 april 2002 1:20 Onderwerp: RE: Pictures from PC to Sam... How? Some advice on following link http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~rjvveeke/Coupe/draw1.htm Be carefull, that is a very old page, and it actually was not supposed to be there anymore. But since it is, it is a kind of tutorial which i once wrote but i think this not precisely what Frans ment with his question. BTW: I used tables in that page, something that is bound to go wrong is different browsers. I myself use Photoshop (and this would work even with PS 2.5 or something like that). 1. Take a picture and If it has less than 24 bits color then you change it to 24 bits color, in that way you avoid jagged edges when scaling the picture. 2. Scale it to 256x192 pixels, sometimes you need to make a 4x3 sized selection first. 2. Split the RGB into three seperated channels. 3. Change those three grey channels into RGB (they still are greyscale but now with 24bit depth, and PS will change a greyscale to 256 colors automaticaly, you can´t force anything else, therefore you need something more than 8 bits) 4. Change again those channels, but now to indexed colors, with 3 (adaptive) colors and a some kind of dithering (all three channels must have the same dithering). 5. Make a new document, 256x192 pixels, RGB. 6. Cut and paste the three greyscales into there channels, so red goes in channel red etc. 7. Save as BMP and use for example Edwin´s Screenviewer to add the BMP to a diskfile with Sleur en Pleur (drag and drop). And that´s it, step 3 and 4 are under several buttons at my photoshop. It works no so good with very dark or very bright pictures, but otherwise it gives quite good results and usually i don´t have to do anything on Sam itself, most pictures convert nicely to Screen$. They specifically ask for Spectrum games though, and not other 8 bit versions. I wonder what they're up to, handheld Speccy al-la TVBoy? They want produce a mobile phone (i think) that can play Spectrum games and such. I am far more intrested what their next move is once they obtain permission to distribute games through their new gadget. Demanding that all other forms of free distribution stops? Withdraw the permission for free use of Spectrum Roms for emulators? At this moment they have good idea, but indeed face the problems like anyone else, you need permission to distribute those games, especially when you want to start a commercial venture like Amstradt is planning. If copyrightholders demand payement because their works are going to be used in a commercial service than it could well mean that the current situation of free distribution comes at a end. Not that it would stop distribution, it only moves underground again. HCC-dagen (HCC-days)
This weekend the HCC-days will be held in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, the Netherlands. It´s the biggest computermarkt/show in the Benelux countries. And as always just like the last 20 years the HCC-Sinclair users will have their own stand to show off what they still do with their machines. But what i want to ask, Edwin, Stefan (and maybe other Dutch list readers) are you comming to Utrecht this weekend. Especialy Edwin, i have some questions about the Atom, i won´t accept a HD and CD-rom. 2 HD´s or CD-rom (stand-alone with boot from diskette) is fine. I tried it with several HD´s like Western Digital, Maxtor, Quantum and Seagate disks, they work fine, but not with a CD-rom. Questions, questions....
Keyboards, is someone working on a interface-thingie so that you can hook up a PC-keyboard to your Sam? If so what is the status about it. I have a Sam who is acting up again when it comes to its keyboard, it looks like dirty membrame-contacts this time, so i can clean it and lucky me, i still have a membrane spare. But i rather would see a more permanent solution. Another question, anyone willing or knowing a person who is willing to sell a Sam Coupe for a decent price (so no [EMAIL PROTECTED] and other Ebay nonsense)? There comes a time that this 11 year old computer will fail. I am not looking for a mint-condition (Mine has surely the marks of 11 years of intensive use, so why should i care) but a good working condition would be nice Robert van der Veeke aka RJVgraphics [EMAIL PROTECTED] Currently: Listening to: Shenmue - Orchestra version Many people in the world (maybe even 100 or more) don't even know who I am - David Lees sharing his place alongside Bob Brenchley Rocketshite -

But it usually fast passes away, because someone ask that persona who told about waste of space: Well his Royal Fatness also mumbled something about writing software should be done in a organised manner and such, well organised and stuctured projects that people worked on. Either come up with some attractive ways of remarketing games that most SAM owners already have, or expect the worst. Why expecting it? It is already here, the Sam is dead as a doornail. At least that is what is happening in the Dutch situation, only a handfull of active Sam-users remain, and basically have everything that money could buy for the Sam. So don't expect a market overhere. Even in the very unlikely case that there are people who are willing to buy a Sam overhere in the Netherlands, there is no way that they gonna pay another 100 to a 150 quid for a decent collection of software. And i don't blame them (mind you, all back-issue's of Fred alone would (if they cost a pound per issue) cost you 80 pounds). This is a chance to do somethig a bit different and take the SAM into the new millenium with a chance of survival - even if it is only in emulated form. Emulation is the only way forward at this moment, unless Bob makes a full U-turn and starts promoting and selling the Sam with full and honest enthousiasm. But don't expect much from the new emulator-users unless they already own or have owned a Sam Coupe when it comes to programming-projects. Opera is a small, rather fast and simple browser and nothing more, that is what i like about it. To move back on a sort of Sam related topic, Martijn has finished another version of his Spectrum emulator (you know harddisc, CD-rom etc.), and has made a Atom-compatible version of Stefan Drissens mod-player wich i am currently testing. And we started somehow working on a rather naughty demo :) I should put those on my soon (that could take another month or two) to be announced new website, really :) -- Robert van der Veeke, aka RJV Graphics [EMAIL PROTECTED] Currently listening to : The Phantom Menace OST

Datum: vrijdag, mei 14, 1999 10:53 Err. i am missing a point here, but what are those EMC regulations? Electro-Magnetic Compliance. Basically you're not allowed to sell any electic items unless they have taken, and passed, a very expensive testing procedure. Aha, another stupid ruling to frustate small companies, clearing the way for big ones who can afford such testing. Re: Keyboard membranes
Van: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Aan: sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no Onderwerp: Keyboard membranes Datum: vrijdag, mei 14, 1999 1:18 Does anyone know the life expectancy of a SAM keyboard membrane? Old Spectrums start malfunctioning if their membranes deteriorate, and I wondered how SAM's compared with them. I have a Sam for 8 years now and i am using my third membrane now. Must admit that the last one took quite a while before failing completely. Other than the membrane, what other part's failure would herald the end of SAMs working life? Well the diskdrive is acting strangely now and then. For the rest my Sam is still working perfectly. -- Robert van der Veeke, aka RJV Graphics [EMAIL PROTECTED] Currently listening to : The Phantom Menace OST
