depend on OpenSSL, which I should have done in retrospect but didn't

Sounds like MTU issues so check that it is set correctly to what your
ISP expects. Unfortunately we do not support a full 1500 MTU over PPP
interfaces yet, so you are limited to 1492, but this is something I
want to look at some time (requires an update to the pppd we ship
now, so for now I've added -fpermissive to
the pkgsrc Makefile and will backport the change to the 2016Q4 branch.
The package should show up in the 2016Q4 sets by tomorrow.

that they default to newer standards, which fall foul of our strict
XPG feature tests (e.g. packages that hard-code _XOPEN_SOURCE=500), as

is broken), and will issue rebuilt packages within the next day.
Note that the exceptions will also rather unhelpfully abort the
process with no information if you attempt to use HTTPS without the
appropriate
