I agree with you, AHJ's can fix this by rejecting plans that don't meet the
requirements of 13 or whatever guideline is being used. Till this happens
it will continue cause owners of sprinkler companies don't want the

We used cpvc strap hangers, no rod was used. We spoke to AFCON (hanger
manufacturer) their engineer say's strap hangers don't provide the exemption
- my guess would be the #18 screws are the primary problem, the punched
holes will not allow any attachment larger than 1/4.
