Makes me wonder why Vortexbox would have required a LMS update to fix a
TIDAL issue, when others didn't is Vortexbox using some customized
LMS? Did you check transcoding settings? What is FLAC streaming set to?
Are there any other plugins which might be fiddling with transcoding in
order to "improve" the streaming?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Tidal Problem "Connection Reset by Local Host"

No, Vortexbox is just a custom OS based on Fedora23 to specifically be
used to run LMS with built-in auto ripping and tagging or CDs or DVDs.
It uses regular LMS like every other server.

But you said you had to install some LMS build to fix a TIDAL related
issue. And I'm not aware of a recent change doing so. The last change
related to FLAC on TIDAL was back in October 2017.

Just give LMS on another machine a try.

I'm sorry, no. I started to use my own subversion repository years back
before github et al. were a thing... probably even before git was a
thing for us normal humans :-)

I'm curious what the issue was and how you worked around it.

Long story short: stupid me.

A few weeks/months back I re-wrote the token-fetching to be
non-blocking, as I had reports of Spotty locking up LMS for a long time
when there were networking issues causing the token lookup to fail. That
re-write unfortunately didn't work on Windows. So I had to revert back
to using the old code on Windows. But the smart guy I am I tried to
re-use some of the new code instead. And simply forgot to add a line to
actually return the token under these circumstances...

As the token, once received, would be cached locally, the lock-up would
only happen once the token had expired and a new one needed to be
fetched (thus the 1h delay).

Didn't see anything when looking here:
https://github.com/michaelherger/spotty

Yeah, that's only the spotty helper part, but not the plugin code. It's
on github as it started as a copy of the librespot sample application.

Can anyone advise me on what type NAS I should get, and how to install

I think Synology currently has the best support for LMS. They have an
"official" package (provided by Synology, but slightly outdated), as
well as good community support. And IMHO they do a great job keeping
their products up to date in terms of firmware, even years after the
product release (I have a 2012 model which still gets updates!).

But as others mentioned: it's probably simpler to have a Raspberry Pi to
run LMS, while using the NAS as the music file store only. It's likely
better supported if you wanted to install one of the more advanced LMS
plugins requiring some external helper application etc. (eg. Spotty
;-)). I've been running a piCorePlayer based LMS for over a year now,
connected to an ancient ReadyNAS.

custom file name string, then cover, folder, album, thumb.

May Music & Artist Information plugin would allow you to show additional
files interactively (when looking at a track's details menu).

Yes, I’m the B.N. that sent the files. Thank you again for helping.
There is an improvement. I was having to skip at least 4 times before

the first song. Going directly through MSB still has same problem.

That's not related to the issues I saw in your server.log then. Did you

there's a generic issue with Pandora on mysb.com, as Pandora users

Thanks for the tip! There's quite a lot of folders - do you know why
adding a bunch at once would eat up so much memory? The only reason
that comes to mind (as a programmer) are that the scan is done
multithreaded, and each thread is allocating lots of memory per tree
descent. But even so... seems a little much.

As bpa mentioned LMS isn't using that much memory. You're not running

It would save so much time (and questions), and it can’t be much more

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS - Qobuz and playlists

Anyone familiar with the problem? Is there a solution?

The only solution would be a code change in the Qobuz plugin itself. In
API.pm you'd find the USERDATA_LIMIT constant which is set to 500.

I do NOT recommend doing this, as it might result in you being banned
from accessing their service. Services like this usually limit the
number of items per request on their end as large queries could use a
lot of processing power and memory.

Assuming you create those huge mixes so you can shuffle them I'd suggest
you look into using LastMix instead. This plugin would automatically and
dynamically add new tracks to your list, based on what you've been
playing before. It's not perfect, but can give you decent mixes which
last for hours or days.

You could certainly configure a reverse proxy for control features only,

Now I’m totally confused, again by these rules. The problem I described

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Documentation for the LMS scan process?

2018-08-26 Thread Michael Herger

Is there any documentation for the LMS scan process showing how it uses
tags in music files and/or m3u playlists when it is building or
rebuilding its music access menus?

Not really, no.

The reason I ask is that I'm using the Asunder CD ripper to populate my
LMS music library with tracks from CDs I own. Asunder evidently uses a
crowd-sourced database to deduce the artist(s), CD and track titles.
This works well, but it isn't consistent, e.g. the entries for most
J.J.Cale CDs identify him as "J.J. Cale" but "Shades" uses
"Cale, J.J". It returns tracks named "nn Artist Album track.flac" in a
directory named "Artist Album" and puts a playlist called "Artist
Album.flac.m3u" in the directory along with the tracks.

That's the "ARTISTSORT" tag being set to a different value.

This messes up the lists displayed by LMS. I'd much prefer it to use
the same scheme as I'm using to file the music.

LMS uses tags first, only if that fails it would try to guess
information from the folder and file names. You better get your tags
cleaned up.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Why do all my file paths start with tmp:/// ?

Turns out that it's apparently not a problem with trackstat but with LMS
itself. Cause I noticed that it's using the path
Plugins::TrackStat::Storage::saveTrack (1020) No matching alternative
path found for file:///c/media/Music ... for all songs. Where does the
tmp come from?

You'd get the tmp prefix if you played tracks using the "Browse
Filesystem" rather than any of the other browser modes, in particular
not "Browse Musicfolder": The first is designed to play items without
adding them to the library. Therefore there's no link to any item stored
in the database. You'd have to play tracks one of the other ways.

But the tmp prefix should never be used eg. in an import. It's only
really being used if you play stuff without adding it to the library.

mismatch?

I just pushed a change which would hopefully address your issue. Could
you please update to the next build (due out in about an hour),
re-enable high memory usage, and try again?

I have been setting my Pi to normal memory use since I started running
MusicIP and had memory issues. Will this change allow me to use High
again?

Depends on how it failed before...

Argh... dependencies suck. I'll fix that ASAP.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Prevent different versions of sox, flac etc being overwritten on update

2018-09-05 Thread Michael Herger

The updated binaries went in yesterday, should be in the latest 7.9.2
nightly. Check them out.

I just installed Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1536072399 @ Tue
Sep 4 17:16:34 CEST 2018, but that still has the old 2009 ones. Maybe I
was a day too early.

What platform is this LMS on? There are new binaries for sox & flac for
i386, x86_64, Windows, Mac (64-bit only), and arm/armhf.

The linux x86_64 (only) build.In
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/x86_64-linux . Maybe next nightly?

It should be in already. It's what triggered a new nightly build.

What versions would sox and flac be? Should be SoX v14.4.2, and flac 1.3.2.

I installed the update and the scan ran without any errors, thank you!

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] imageproxy.db size

2018-09-07 Thread Michael Herger

painstakingly set preferences are still active. The first full scan
after clearing caches produces a 500Mbyte imageproxy.db file! Subsequent
'clear library and rescan everything' grows that file and it can become

Are you using the Music & Artist Information plugin? It does store
copies of the artist pictures in there. How many tracks do you have?

Would the file still grow beyond the GB? I did add a change a while back
to keep the file under control. While it would still grow, it shouldn't
grow infinitely as before. But this change actually required a manual
deletion of the file to take effect.

Is it safe to simply delete imageproxy.db then just do a 'clear library
and rescan everything'?

Yes, it's safe, but it will slow down certain activities, as pre-cached
artwork might need to be re-built.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Can't locate auto/Linux/MemInfo/autosplit.ix

2018-09-08 Thread Michael Herger

If (only if) it's an easy fix, maybe this one, too?

https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/issues/200

Unfortunately it's not. We'd need to update the database drivers, which
comes with its own load of issues. In some quick tests a few weeks ago I
figured out they _slowed_ down LMS considerably in some aspects we're
using (in particular fulltext search). Plus we'd have to compile
binaries for dozens of platforms, and add some compatibility layer...

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Squeezebox server wont stay started

2018-09-08 Thread Michael Herger

I'm running Windows 8.1 on an Intel based CPU. As stated in the OP, i
was running version 7.9.1 of the media server. Did a clean install of
7.9.1..did not help then tried using a older version of Logitech media
server, 7.7.5 which did not help either. Firewalls are turned off. The
'software conflict message' does not specify what software is causing
coflict, if any..just says there is something that may.

Anything in server.log?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] imageproxy.db size

2018-09-08 Thread Michael Herger

Yes I do use the Music & Artist Information plugin and have about 35k
tracks. Next time I see it happening I'll manually delete imageproxy.db
do a full rescan and see what happens after that.

I think under these circumstances the file's size is not unrealistic.
Yet, it shouldn't grow infinitely.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9 won't run as Admin on the first bootup.

2018-09-13 Thread Michael Herger

By the way, does anyone know how to turn off the popup about updating
LMS? I thought selecting DON"T CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES would do the
trick but it doesn't.

If LMS already had downloaded an update before you checked that box,
then it would beg you to install it until it was gone. Check the LMS
cache folder for the update file, remove that updates folder (while LMS
is shut down), and you should be quiet.

But then you probably should update anyway.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Error when attempting to Open LMS control panel

2018-09-14 Thread Michael Herger

Any file/folders beginning pdk in the local Temp are temporary. I would
suggest stop LMS and Control panel. Delete all files/folders beginning
pdk in the Temp directory and then try to restart Control panel and LMS.

In the past we've had issues with antivirus programs blocking those
files. What AV product are you using? Maybe it has some status feature
where it would list such incidents?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Forbidden: settings/index.html

2018-09-14 Thread Michael Herger

I'm having the same issue trying to connect to the settings page. I
have the simplest set up I could imagine: a Raspberry Pi connected
directly to my Mac by an ethernet cable.

Unfortunately it might be the simplest from a physical point of view.
But it's more complicated from a networking POV. Just hook everything up
to your router.

The Mac's IP address is
192.168.10.1, and it's given the Pi an IP address of 192.168.10.2
Trying to connect using a browser on the Mac I get:
403 Forbidden: settings/server/wizard.html
The logs show:
Access to settings pages is restricted to the local network or
localhost: 192.168.10.1 -> 192.168.10.2 (settings/server/wizard.html)

Hmm... is the Mac acting as the gateway for your Pi? That could explain
this. As I said: hook the Pi up to your router directly, and all should
be fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Forbidden: settings/index.html

2018-09-14 Thread Michael Herger

The problem is that I want this server to be standalone
(actually the plan is for it to be in the car), and once it's installed
I won't be able to connect it to the home network. This is why I was
hoping to be able to administer it from the Mac...

If you enable password protection, you should be able to get access.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Forbidden: settings/index.html

2018-09-15 Thread Michael Herger

I can access the settings page via the direct connection from my Mac if
I add a username and password. Is setting the username and password the
only way to do this?

No. I knew the request would come up at some point, therefore the
feature can be disabled using a pref in server.prefs. But I haven't
exposed that pref to the UI. You'd have to set it manually in
server.prefs while LMS is down. Relevant commit is this:

https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commit/aafbc2a7ef83f7f9b9d4afa2e255a5a9f6c24060#diff-a6e566b6bc12439aaf3b01431260b471R1019
