I m running XP SM 1.1.17 and using VLC media player.
I have a problem in that when I click on any wmv attachment, I get a

nothing happens. I close that browser window click on the attachment and
it opens ok in VLC.

Any clues anybody??

Last time I checked, less than a year ago, approximately 40% of US
users ( including me ;) are still on dialup.

It's hard to judge, because broadband penetration statistics divide
the number of broadband access points by the total population, not by
the number of Internet users. US stats for December 2008 were around 25%
by that measure, but how many users had access to each line? And what
proportion of the population isn't online at all?

http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/21/35/39574709.xls

As for speeds, OECD includes anything over 256 kbit/s, which is a pretty
low cutoff but does exclude dial-ups.

There's a subtle trap for software developers - assuming that their

I wouldn't call it so much a trap for SW developers -- they don't suffer
if they get it wrong, we do. Typically they write for high-end systems,
driving innovation as users demand better performance from manufacturers
and ISPs. A minority will write for low-end systems in the interest of
broader market penetration.

I think the traps more subtle. For example, top of line systems
are so big and/or fast that the problem may not be observed. Is
all this bandwidth needed or is does it cover up other problems?

OK, it's probably CMD-U, or whatever you call that funny Apple key --
that's the usual translation. At any rate, whatever you would normally
do to reveal the source code of a message or web page.

If this particular Sent folder is chock full of messages marked for

differently.

Filters for newsgroups [Usenet]

2009-08-11 Thread chicagofan

Is there any chance SM will ever have a message filter in the future,
that will block crossposting, as we could with the old Netscape programs?
Or is there an add on that will do that, like Fix News did for Netscape?

Some newsgroups are just impossible to keep up with, because of spammers
cross posting, and constantly changing their addresses. Of course it's
always worse in the summer, when all the kiddies have too much time on
their hands. :)

Have they disappeared or have you just been using a different, empty,
bookmarks.html file??

In SM have a look at Edit-MailNewsgroup Account Settings, select your
mail account, then have a look at the bottom of the Server Settings
screen for the location of your Local Directory.

Close this screen, then in SM select Tools-Switch Profiles and note how
many profiles you have. Are there more than you would expect?? Try
selecting each of the profiles. Is there one that you are not allowed
into?? If so, completely close SeaMonkey (including the Quick Launch
feature if you use it) and then give the three-finger salute
(Ctrl-Alt-Del) and if SeaMonkey is still listed in the running
processes, End it. Exit the C-A-D screen.

Re-start SM, and try and select the profile that you couldn´t get to
before. Does it work, and are your lost bookmarks listed??

Report back if this doesn´t work!! More things to try.
