Weird, minor issue since upgrade to 2.53.5.1

2021-01-03 Thread Rick & Sharon

Been loving Mozilla since the NetScape days, current install info:
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/60.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.5.1

Build identifier: 20201115194905

Upgraded several different home PCs/laptops to newest version, but on
this machine (primary PC in the house), I've developed 1 niggle: with a
newsgroup subscription open and multiple articles displayed, cannot use
'ctrl-shift-C' to mark all items as read. This still works on other
devices, just not this PC.

All devices are running Win10, updated. If I manually select all items
in the Thread pane and right-click, then click Mark - as Read, that
works. As well, if I right-click on the Newsgroup name and click Mark
Newsgroup Read, that also works. Only the keyboard shortcut is failing,
and only for this PC. Any suggestions on what to look at for possible
resolution to restore this keyboard shortcut?

I have found it all but impossible to find a tutorial telling one how to
proceed. Pointers to an appropriate source of information will be most
appreciated.
Skype IS browser-independent. Makes no difference what browser you use,
Skype's interface is its own client. And yes, you must have an MS
account to use it. back when MS took it over, your old account was
carried over with it, but since then it's been updated. In my case and
those of my associated family, we've all had to establish new profiles
in Skype for it to work, on Android or Windows platforms.

forward from there.

The older 2.49 installation and its profile had a working Lightning
configuration.

I tried copying individual files of Bookmarks etc from a backup of the
2.49 profile but SMonkey ignored the copies. I'm aware that the schema
of the profile has been revised in 2.53.2.

I notice that on a new empty profile in 2.53.2 the Events and Tasks menu
is available in Mail and the Lightning extension shows as installed. On
the migrated profile Events and Tasks is missing and the Lightning
extension is missing. I've tried installing Lightning but get an error
report when I start it. Is there a fix I can apply to enable Lightning
in my migrated profile?

I notice in the about:config on this computer I can see the calendar
settings, such as the URL of my CalDAV server. Those settings will have
originated in the 2.49 profile that this profile is derived from. Is
there a setting I can change to re-enable the calendar function?

Failing if someone could point me to an up to date list of the various
files in a 2.53.2 profile so that I'll know exactly which files to copy
in order to migrate my Bookmarks etc onto an otherwise clean profile
that has Lightning working.

Is there a way to trigger the conversion of a 2.49 profile to the 2.53.2
profile?

Many thanks

Ken

ken, I had problems with a simple upgrade in the last 6 months where my
existing Lightning info appeared to disappear, even tho the extension
was reporting as installed. The fix I got, suggested by another member
here, was to open 'about:config' and search for this entry (without the
quotes):

"extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}"
Right-click on the entry in the 'Value' column, select the 'Reset'
option, restart your SM session. Mine worked right away after that.
Other profiles created don't have the 'evil bit' set that's masking the
Lightning function, only your main profile.

Hope this works for you.

My install was performed while a real-time backup tool was also
running, which has a job assigned to keep my profile info updated, as
it changes. Hoping this was a minor hiccup, I restarted the PC,
killed the backup software and re-ran the installer. No errors, but
still no Lightning module items.

My profile folder still contains a 'calendar-data' subfolder, and
there are 3 sqlite database files inside. Looking at the Add-ons Mgr

removed but marked as incompatible, so I uninstalled that and re-tried
the new installer once more. No joy.

Everything appears to work normally, other than my inability to

Any suggestions on how to at least regain access to the menus for
Lightning?

See under "Known Issues" in the release notes at
<https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.53.1/>:
Lightning or one of the distributed extensions is not showing up or is
disabled under Add-ons.
If the extension is disabled and can not be enabled deinstall it. If
it does not show up after restart do the following:

* Enter "about:config" in the location bar.
* Enter "extensions.installedDistroAddon" in the search field.
* Reset the key of the extension not showing up using the popup menu
with the mouse. If in doubt just reset all keys, but this might bring
back previously uninstalled distributed Add-ons.

* Restart SeaMonkey.

It seems that for some reason the bundled version doesn't get installed
for some people. It sounds like you've uninstalled the incompatible
version of Lightning, but try the about:config edit. I think the one to
reset for Lightning is
"extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}".

Thanks, Mark, that 'reset' trick worked. All the items under that
config area are showing boolean 'true' which I took to mean 'enabled',
but using the Reset context-menu action cleared it back to default, and
now all is well again.

That was followed by a lot of formatting and content, leading to the
code below. On-screen was a green rectangle with the words 'Renew Now'
centered. That link also didn't work. In the code below was a URL
which included a token specifically for me to access my account at

When you're doing this kind of filter, the easiest mistake to make is
that the default setting is "Match all of the following", and you need

My filter contains these words:
PEDOFILO

Along with NSN Smith's advice, I also have 'Match any of the following'

window and have them open a new window for side-by-side comparison, no
longer works. I will admit I don't know the version I was using the
last time I did this, but I've just found it non-functional. The Help
file doesn't say 'boo' about it, and the only on-line references I've
come across refer to Firefox builds.

My IE install still does this, so am I remembering incorrectly that SM
ever did have this capability? I only use IE as a last resort when a
web page gives me grief in SM, and I don't even have Chrome installed.

TIA.

New Question - SM 2.46 in Windows 7

I have tabbed Browsing working, but I find it difficult to finger out
which Tab is the one currently open !

When I ran Tabbed Browsing in my old SM 1.1 (?), the open tab had a
colored bar running across the top of the tab.

I do not see a toggle to do this in this newer 2.46.

Am I missing it somewhere ?

DoctorBill
Changes to the newer versions, coupled with Win10, changed the
appearance. The only tab that has the BLue 'close X' box & a Plus (+)
sign is the top tab (with focus).

Logging daily mail activity?

2017-01-31 Thread Rick & Sharon

I use a backup solution called Memeo, which runs in real time as opposed
to only at scheduled intervals. I've been using both since the XP days.
Since upgrading the OS to Win10, I've been getting issues with sending
or receiving emails, where messages can't be saved to either the Sent or
Inbox folders, as appropriate. If I just keep trying 'Retry' it won't
work. If I suspend the Memeo process and then retry, it's fine.

I'm using the Win10 version of Memeo and have a ticket open with them,
but they're asking for a screen shot and a collection of logs. The logs
are no issue, but since the error pops up randomly I don't have a screen
shot already saved, and I'm the only user of this who has any idea of
how to take one. It occurs that a comparison of SM mail logs compared
to the Memeo logs would be a good thing, as time events can be compared
to work out a solution.

Are there such, and would they record the failed folder writing
attempts? I've seen an article about Thunderbird logging to
troubleshoot server issues, but that's not what I'm trying to solve.

Is Sea Monkey compatible with W10? If not, what do I have to do so it

I save up-to-date copies of the profile and ini in a separate HD, but in
W10 have no idea where to find the profile so I can copy in the saved
version. Help, anyone? (What is the path to the profile, and how do I
find it?) In W7 I know the answer, but W10 is a mystery with a confusing
UI.

What happens to extensions and plug-ins?

I probably have the same questions about everything else--programs, such
as word processing, security and back-up. Ditto with peripherals such as
mouse, monitor, keyboard and printer. Finding all the information I can.

A very intimidating process, to be sure! Taking the plunge soon--hope to
not drown.

Any and all help greatly appreciated!

My experience with upgrading from Win7 to Win10 with SeaMonkey installed
was: no issues. The Windows upgrade ran as MS advertises it, and all my
desktop and taskbar icons were untouched, and all worked as they had
before the upgrade. I've done this to 2 different machines in the last
week, same reeults.
In the event there were any issues, like you, I have a backup regimen in
place. But there was no need to restore a thing.

Your profile location is the same in W10 as in W7, so that's not an issue.
If you're still nervous, best thing I can recommend is to turn off your
antivirus during the upgrade, just to be sure it doesn't actively block
anything during the process. Once the upgrade is done, turn your AV
back on (or re-install it if it complains).

Keith, not sure why this is happening but you might try deleting both
the SMTP and the password and then recreate the SMTP.

Also make sure WOW haven't chgned whether your user login has changed
(i.e. was just your account alias but is now your whole mail address, or
vice-versa.)

You're not the first to see this. It's a certificate issue between
older and current versions. To install the newer version:

Click on the SeaMonkey icon at the top right of your mail or browser
window, and download the v2.38 whole version install you'll see on the
web page which opens. Simply right-click on that file once it's
downloaded, and click 'Run as administrator'. It will install on top of
your current install and pick up your existing settings.

Once you've done this, newer future updates should install as normal
from the 'Check for updates' menu options.

I just now installed SeaMonkey 2.38. When I view the lists of
extensions or themes via the Add-ons Manager, the version numbers no
longer are displayed. I can get them one-at-a-time by selecting the
More link for each; but this does not give me a view of all of them
at once. One developer asserted that selecting [Tools >
Troubleshooting Information] from the menu bar provides the
all-at-once listing of extension version numbers; however, that does
not provide the version numbers of any themes. (Actually, the
developer's comment was expressed in terms of Firefox and involves
requesting about:support.)

Bug #1175324 was already submitted and then marked as Closed/WontFix
by the developers, who assert that users did not want version numbers
all together. Several users (including me) commented in that bug
report that the developers really do not know what users really want.
I marked the bug report Reopened and noted the lack of any bug report
requesting the removal of version numbers, which indicates bad
configuration management practices. See
.

Fortunately, PrefBar's InfoList button does supply the version
numbers all at once and also links to the extensions' Web sites.

There is also:
https://addons.mozilla.org/seamonkey/addon/amversionnumber/

Phil

And, of course, that web link shows this add-on is not available for SM
2.35 (which I viewed it under.) Do I have to upgrade SM to see whether
this add-on will work then? Seems a bit of a leap, really.

I did a clean install of Windows 10, and the latest version of
SeaMonkey is running fine.

Windows 10: you need to change all the security settings, as Microsoft
has set them to a default that allows them access to pretty much your
whole system. There even is a somewhat hidden setting that allows
Microsoft to give other users the ability to download Win 10 from your
system!

To S Slicer:
Found an article which describes the default settings you describe,
except for the last one about your machine being a download host for the
OS install. Can you elaborate, or point us to an article with more
info, please?

You can search for the preference
news.persist_server_open_state_in_folderpane
in about:config and set it to true.
(or add it to your user.js)

You have to read properly which versions are supported ;-)
Have a look here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/seamonkey/addons/versions/1865
For Seamonkey 1.1.x you need to take AdBlockPlus 1.0.2

If you want to use ABP1.1.1 you can test Seamonkey 2.0 Beta1
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.0b1/
It's very stable for a beta-version and won't touch your SM1 if you
install it to a separate directory. Your profile will be copied/migrated
to another directory as well on the first start.

It may be just the same with DownThemAll.

This is due to heavy changes in the AddOn-System.

Also, I can't find where to check what add ons are installed unless I'm
missing something. Thanks for any help.

The build-in AddOn-Manager only exists in SM2.
For SM1 you can use something like the Extension Manager:
