sry, but things mentioned there are partially garbage and somehow 
unrelated in my eyes.
@unrelated: SM is not written in VB and shouldn't suffer from it's 
short-comings.
@garbage: afaik FAT32 supports file sizes up to 4GB, not only 2 as 
mentioned there. That's why I am wondering about a 2GB limit. I would 
have expected it to be 4GB, that's why I am asking. (no I don't need a 
long thread (hopefully) ;-) )
(What if I would be so crazy and run SM on linux from FAT32-partition? I 
would run into the same trouble I guess...? So it's not a windows-issue 
after all but a problem with the file-system from my point of 
knowledge/understanding. Therefor I wanted to make things clearer to me)

the folder(file) individually. How would the file size limit affect the

The whole this is more of a curiosity than anything.

BTW thank you for pointing out the files size limit, I do hope that is 
is going to be removed, There seems no sensible reason to have a limit 
not imposed by the filessystem. If large files cause performance 
problems the user should have to option of accepting the hit or 
administering the system.

POP, The server is Exim4 and dovecote

I don't expect to do this often.

I have one partner who keeps her messages on the sever for a long time, 
as a sort of safety mechanism. She downloads them constantly.


I was setting up a new computer for her and downloading the messages 
happened as a part of setting up a new account.


As others have noted it isn't a big deal and doesn't affect getting 
messages.but I wondered is anyone had ever seen this before.

I've never downloaded that many messages at one time


Forty thousand emails? At one time? Even with a dozen accounts it would 
take me over 6 months to get that many. So I haven't done any testing at 
all in this field, safe to say.


As of 2003, the 'average' email size was 59kb, so if your emails are 
anywhere near that average, thats over 2,350,00kb  or 2,300mb or 
slightly more than 2 gigabytes

I would suggest that this 'cosmetic' issue affects very few as the 
requirements to even 'see' the issue or so very unique. I say 'cosmetic' 
as it does not seem to impact on actually getting the emails from your 
note, just that it counts backwards at very high numbers
