Hi again all

Problem fixed. One or both of 2 things solved it.

I unchecked a "use buffers" setting in the ports advanced settings, and
found that databits had mysteriously changed to 7 instead of 8.

As a separate bit of advice, Windows is quite capable of changing the
comport setting that will work with your speech synth without telling
you. In the case of the USB to serial convertor, if your speech synth
won't work at all, go to the device manager and check the port number
it's using, which may occasionally change for reasons which I certainly
don't understand.

Good luck

HI,

THIS IS WITH THE NEOSPEECH PAUL OR KATE , OR THE IVONA JENNIFER VOICES. I CAN
BAIRLY HEAR THE PITCH CHANGE WITH THE REED VOICE.

I REALLY DON'T WANT TO CHANGE IT TO SAY CAPS. THIS WOULD BE VERY ANNOYING.

Changes in how 9.3.1 behaves

2015-12-17 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Hi all
1
I find that the first word in a file or folder name is often repeated.
For example, I have a folder called Misc Christmas" and W-E will now say
"Misc Misc Christmas".

2
In at least some edit boxes, how I can read the box has changed. For
example, in Winamp, when editing the tag information with alt+3, If I
enter a publisher in the "publisher" edit box, up and down arrows will
no longer read what I just wrote, whereas left and right arrows will
read it character by character, and the whole edit box will read only if
I tab out of it and back again.

All,

I too am suffering from the issue of not being able to upgrade to 9.3.1 from
9.2.1 as others have done.

I have tried it several times by different methods, but always the result is
the same.

I download a generated copy of 9.3.1 and this appears To be successful.
WE then requests permission to install, which I agree to.
The upgrade then starts, with a few questions.
I then get to the braille options.
It does not matter which option I choose, either to install the new braille
settings or not.
I am then told that I cannot upgrade the current version of WE 9.3.1 over
the currently installed version.

N.B. I have re-installed WE 9.2.1 to see if that had an influence, but this
did not help either.

What next?

Regards, John

RE: ie crashing on web pages we 9.3.1.0

2015-12-17 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
I just switched to the Tripletalk USB original and will run it for a while to
see if I get the issue where it stops talking and I need to disconnect.

I think you may need to reinstall your tripletalk usb drivers or update them.

Subject: ie crashing on web pages we 9.3.1.0

Well was reading this weeks top tech tidbits and number 4 I believe it was
was linking to a web site that was talking about apple best apps for 2015.

I navigated to this page and press h to go to the first heading then used
down arrows.
1. got stuck on the first waypoint and could not navigate past
2. did alt+ shift f for search and lost speech

Restarted we, no speech.
Had to unhook and re hook triple talk usb then restart we to get speech
back.
Had to use task manager to close ie.

Hmmm?

If anyone else wants to see how their results go, the link is:

THE KEYBOARD CAPITAL PITCH OPTION NO LONGER WORKS WITH W E 9.3 AND WIN 7 64BIT.
THIS IS WITH THE NEOSPEECH PAUL OR KATE , OR THE IVONA JENNIFER VOICES. I CAN

Latest Upgrade

2015-12-17 Thread Linda Mentink via Talk

Hi all,

There is a lot of traffic on this list about upgrading to the latest
WE version. I tried again this morning, and lost the speech
completely. The download was stopped because WE stopped working, and
Windows was going to try to fix the problem.

I'm going to hold off until either the site is less busy or the bugs
are fixed, since so many here seem to be having problems.

I encourage you all to relax, and wait. I'm almost sorry I started
the thread, not thinking about the server being overloaded.

RE: Latest Upgrade

2015-12-17 Thread Roger Behm via Talk
HI Folks,

I got my windows 7 computers updated this morning early around 5:30 am
central time and had no problems upgrading my licensed copies, except for
one desktop, which lost speech and I turned on NVDA and just re-started the
computer and starting upgrading again and things went just fine that time.

That is a good thing to have the free NVDA as a backup screen reader.

I did yesterday upgrade with no issues my free window-eyes copies on my
different windows 7, 8, and 10 computers.

MicroSoft has of course much bigger and better servers to be able to grab
the window-eyes 9.31 upgrade.

Just give it time, like Linda states in her email.

Extract Text from Files, Images and the Screen Quickly and Easily

*Recognize text in inaccessible scanned PDF files.

use, and the Office 365 sign-in window was closed without first entering
any text, Window-Eyes would crash. This has been resolved.

*Window-Eyes can now read an entire line or only a word under the
pointer as the physical mouse moves across the screen.

*The mouse can now be set to read instant, hover, or no echo when
moving the mouse around the screen. If the user sets it to hover, the

RE: Windows10 And Search etc

2015-12-17 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: OK, I found a search button there is evidently a search for windows and one
for cortana, sometimes.
I typed System Restore in the windows search and it came up.
How\ever I had to hit the down arrow key then tab and tab back into the search
window to hear the next entry in the list.
Hitting the up or down arrow keys followed by tabbing out of and then back into
the search box will read one item at a time.
This seems like a WE problem.
I installed WE 9.3.1 this morning so are you having this same problem if you
can get the search to work?
Also, hitting the windows key seems to open the cortana search and not the
windows search.
Any settings to change this behavior?
Any settings in general to make windows10 more intuitive along this entire task
line of things?
There are other things being displayed like a jump list or something but not
always, just not sure about the layout as WindowEyes is reading it and what the
parts are.

Windows10 And Search etc

2015-12-17 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi:
Hitting the windows key I get a search box but it says search cortana.
I type into it but there is no list of items with the down arrow keys.
Tabbing I hear things about cortana, bing and I think news items.
How do I do a search as in windows 8.1 on something like "system restore"
and find the list of results?
Is there more setup I need to do in windows10?
Is there a tutorial on using WE 9.3.1 with windows10?
Oh ya, my eloquence sounds bad and I am trying to play with it to find
settings that are better but right here right now I would like to get the
search working as it did in windows 8.1 and not get all those contana, bing
and news items in the task thingy.

You might want to try a reboot or reload of WE.

read it character by character, and the whole edit box will read only if

Hi all

On this desktop machine, under Windows7, when I try to get to my list of
contacts in Skype with alt+1, there is an error in GW Toolkit, which is
"The Braille display is turned off". Since I'm not currently using a
braille display on this machine, that's hardly surprising, and I've
never consciously configured Skype to run with braille. Any thoughts?

Re: Latest Skype and W-E9.3

2015-12-17 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Chris

I'm using the latest Toolkit but, again, I was a bit premature in asking
the question, because I took a look at the braille displays, and a
display was selected which I don't have. Why this was a particular
problem for the Skype ap I don't know, but I tried to unselect it by
just going to "none" and saving the settings, whereupon the non-existent
braille display would come back and cause the error. Eventually, I
realised that I had to "activate" "none", which sounds a bit
counter-intuitive, but I now know that "none" has to be activated to
make it stick. OK, just in case anyone else goes through that. Skype
isn't causing the error any more, but I'm still curious as to why the
braille display suddenly became a problem when I opened Skype.
9.3.1 is working well, and I haven't had any more of those crashes with
Firefox so far, for which I'm extremely grateful.

Thanks

Hi, go to www.gwmicro.com/update, put in your ten digit serial
number, ignore what veriions it tells you you've got or what
comes up, but, this is tricky so take note as it needs both
hands: With the left hand on the upgrade button but don't press
it just yet, but tb|e right hand on the cursor down key, press
the left key first but press the other key as quickly as possible
afterwards as this stops the brojser from going back to Google or
searching for alternasive pages. ,That's the onkn way I could
get it to start downloading. It will ask you if you want to run
or save, when you've pressed Alt r or Alt s, Close the browser
window once you hear the machines pitch tones start getting
higher that tell you it's downloading. After that, just listen to
the machine.

I hope this helps, Steve

choppy sound from WE.

2015-12-17 Thread via Talk
Hi, I’m running WE 9.3 Windows 10. I have an HDMIcable to my tv, when I choose
the sound to go through the tv instead of the speakers that I have plugged into
the back of the pc. The sound breaks up and sometimes just doesn’t speak. It
was doing this on both the speakers and the tv. I went into to the sound
settings and checked the box “disable all enhancements” this fixed the jproblem
with the speakers, but when I choose to have the sound over the tv it’s still
choppy. Any Ideas??

However if you install 9.3 before upgrading to 10 from 7 you'll need to
reinstall 9.3 over itself to install the needed drivers.

afternoon. But each step of the way, it was very slow. When it would have
to go to the next step of the process, like from the download and UAC to the
part with the setup, it took at least a minute. And then it said window
eyes setup, and sat there like that for a minute, before it showed me the
information on the page. Pam.

Here's how to put "This PC" on your desktop.
From the desktop press Control-Space to have nothing selected.
Press the Application key or Shift-F10 to open the context menu.
Activate Personalize. R is the shortcut.
Tab to the list box which should be on "Background" at the top.
Arrow down to Themes and press ENTER.
Tab to the Desktop Icon Settings link and press ENTER.
Tab to Desktop Icons Computer check box and press Space Bar to check it.
Tab to OK and ENTER, then Home and Enter.
Alt-F4 to close Settings.
"This PC" should now be on your desktop.

Curtis,

You cannot hit enter on the search field. This triggers the search
button. There are two ways to go into the search field and enter your text.

When you're on the search edit box either by arrowing to it or hitting E
to get there, hit Control-Shift-A to turn browse mode off.
If Automatic forms interaction is on, which it is by default, tabbing to
the search field will automatically turn browse mode off.

Then type your search text and hit ENTER.

if you're going to use the touch screen then none of them.
w e does not support a touch screen. you would have to use a external blu tooth

it has to run on a intel c p u and have a full version of windows. if there are
still tablets with a rt version of windows it will not allow you to install
your own programs at all.
get one with 32gb of disk space or more. 16gb is not enough because windows

FUrther Information about Problems with Window-Eyes

2015-12-17 Thread Samuel Wilkins via Talk

Hello everyone,
I have some further information about my problems with Window-Eyes
version 9.3. I said in my previous email that Window-Eyes is not using
pitch variation in capital letters. I have found that this happens when
I am using NeoSpeech, which is my primary synthesizer, but I didn't have
problems with it doing it in Window-Eyes 9.2, and it doesn't happen if I
use Dectalk. I am also now having a problem where I can't get
Window-Eyes to stop indicating links and headings during read to end,
and Window-Eyes is still crashing on some long websites. Why is this
happening?

Can now download and install the 9.3 update, Go Figure!

2015-12-17 Thread via Talk
Hello,

Yesterday, and Last Night, the 9.3 update would not install. Would get
to the part where I needed to answer the question of installing the
latest Braille Support. Choosing Yes, or No, would end the install and
the install would post a message stating the new 9.3 update could not be
installed over my 9.2.

This morning, I attempted to download and install the 9.3 update again.
This time it worked. Why? have no idea.Nothing was changed on my
end, but this morning, the install worked.

So far, the only thing I have noticed is the Read to End feature dose
not work when I read Email messages in Becky.

Anyone else have this problem in Becky?

Hi

I suspect you're probably upgrading from a much earlier version of
Window-eyes? the assending piano sound has been around for awhile now,
so that's probably what that is. these aren't beeps, this is an
assending chord, to indicate that window-eyes is starting. there's also
a decending one that plays when Window-eyes shuts down. It's very much
like the one heard when NVDA starts and shuts down too. Other than
that, I have no ideas why it might be acting the way it is.

Make sure to add the "server" certificates, the

In firefox, I see no main listen button, but I do see a "listen in

Incidentally, this also happens with NVDA.
If I close down the screen reader and reload the page, it will play, but
reopening W-E causes the crash again and all is silence.

Other than
that, I have no ideas why it might be acting the way it is.

also, to add to your message which is quite good, if you've more than
one personality, you need to do it under tools, personalities, go to
retrieving mail, fix it in the way you describe below, and then go to
"sending" mail, only if you've tried to send mail with that
particular personality, otherwise you'll get an error.
If you do get an error by Eudora saying something like, "you've not
sent mail using this personality, so no ssl data available," send
yourself a message from that personality and try again.

The "server" certificates are what is causing the problems.

At 03:06 PM 12/15/2015, you wrote:

as i mentioned in a previous message, if you have unsent messages in
your out box, you must follow the same instructions as with checking
mail only you have to do it with the sending mail catagory under
tools and optins. should be the fourth catagory. checking mail is
the second and sending is the fourth.

1: press alt+t for tools then o for options
2: press the home key then arrow down three times to sending mail
3: shift tab four times and press enter
4: shift tab three times and press enter
5: right arrow till nothing is spoken when pressing the right arrow
6: now tab 9 times to add to trusted button and press enter
7: now, using the mouse cursor if window-eyes or the jaws cursor if
jaws and locate the done button and do a left mouse click there. tab
three times to the ok button and press enter and once more tab once
to the next o.k. button and press enter. this should fix the
problem. if not, do the above but with the checking mail catagory.

RE: drives on a windows 110 pc

2015-12-17 Thread Tim Grady via Talk
I don't know if you have some sighted help but in order to do this procedure
you need to use some inaccessible software. I forgot how I found this out but
it is a common windows 10 error. Do a google search for "windows 10 error code:
19". You'll find an article on how to fix the error. The inaccessible software
I mentioned is something called drivereasy and will find the latest drivers you
need and install them for you. You may not have to use the software. See if you
can find the article.

no you don't, if you know your way around windows.
try searching for folder options. i am not on windows 10 now to try a search.
there is a setting in folder options. there is a list of options to hide or
unhide file extentions and empty drives.
when the cd drive is empty it will not show in the list unless you uncheck the
option to hide empty drives or leve a cd in the drive.

WE version number

2015-12-17 Thread Neville via Talk

Hi,
I am confused about the version number of the WE update just released.

In WE, Help, About, the version is given as, 9.3.1 yet Aaron, in the
release statement, called it 9.3. Also, I notice that many on the list
refer to the version by both numbers.

So, which is it, 9.3 or 9.3.1?

Neville.

This is why it always pays to wait a little bit before downloading. I
have a feeling a whole lot of people were pounding the servers and got
incomplete downloads of the program. A buddy of mine downloaded a copy

that's been since the late 90s.
