As do I.
There are many newer ones which say they are human sounding, they are not,
and in my opinion they are not as clear as easy to understand as the
venerable DecTalk
I wish I could get it on my iPhone.

Re: history of window eyes

2016-10-19 Thread Kevin Barry via Talk
I started using Vocal-eyes 2.0 in late 1991. Hard to believe it will be 25
years soon since then. GW micro was a great company and I always love
dealing with it.
It doesn't look good now, and I will just say, I shall never, ever, use
Jaws. I do not care about new management or new ownership. It is tainted
beyond repair with me. Besides that, there are certain things they still
cannot do right.
I will continue to use what I have, and perhaps use NVDA if necessary. At
some point, I expect to transition to iOS full-time.
Doug was and is a wonderful person and we all benefited greatly from his
efforts.

Re: Searching from the start menu will now only launch Edge for web results

2016-05-20 Thread Kevin Barry via Talk
you insist that Microsoft will eventually make edge accessible. Do you know
this? And please, I am not asking for your wishful thinking.
You know nothing of the kind, you were speaking out of a part of your body
lower than your mouth.
It is inexcusable, and really contrary to law, that this browser is allowed
to exist in its current form.

forward thinking.

Re: Cannot install window-eyes 9.3

2015-12-20 Thread Kevin Barry via Talk
I am having the exact same problem on not one, but two separate Windows
8.one machines. No matter how many times I download it, or what steps I
take, nothing works. I have turned up smart filter. It is very unusual, or
suspicious, that this is happening to two of my machines, the machines are
very separate and have nothing in common other than the operating system. I
have updated window eyes on these machines previously.

Re: Can now download and install the 9.3 update, Go Figure!

2015-12-17 Thread Kevin Barry via Talk
Well, such is not the case here. I just finished trying yet again to
install the upgrade. I downloaded the file a few times which seemed to
work. However, no matter what I do I cannot get this thing to run. Even in
my administrator account I can approve the running from the uac but then
nothing. Nothing at all. I have tried several things including running as
administrator from the context menu both in my administrator account and
from without. Nothing. This is a windows eight point one professional
machine which is up to date. I have a paid for version of we with two sma
counts left. This is rather frustrating.

It is not the fault of gw. Software makers have removed this ability in

OK so I installed Windows 10 over a Windows 8.1 system. The install
went well and all programs worked after the install. Thunderbird
works fine Crome works fine and WE came up talking.
Biggest issues is being very sluggish when it comes to file manager or
when trying to use the up and down arrows to work through a list.
This sluggishness is to the point of making file manager useless as it
make take several seconds after you press the down or up arrows before
 WE talks.
Unless I am missing something I understood that the Windows 7 style of
start menu was part of Windows 10. Unless there some way to change it
it isn't even close to being a Windows 7 start menu. Unless there is
a fix for the sluggishness I would recommend thinking twice before
 upgrading to Windows 10.
If I am again missing something and there is a easy fix please pass it
along and I will gladly retract my negative report.

Hi everyone. Gary, I absolutely agree with your point that since Ai
 Squared
is partnered with Microsoft that the Microsoft Edge browser should be
accessible using Window-eyes 9.2 under Windows 10. Yes, I know, none of
 the
other major screen readers I've read and listened to podcasts about, work
with Microsoft Edge. Ai Squared in partnership with Microsoft should have
been able to make Microsoft Edge accessible with Window-eyes. I must admit
that I have to take Marc Solomon's response to another list member
 regarding
how difficult it really is to implement accessibility into a particular
program. However,. I think Gary's point is a valid one. Again, I am sure
that from Marc's comments to the list member that implementing
 accessibility
into Microsoft Edge is easier said than done under the circumstances.

I have to exit JAWS, then turn it back on, when speech stops.

 Hi there!
Don't really experience the loss of speech very often, but when I do, I
just press the 'Alt-Ctrl-W' and this brings my W.E. back. Really don't
know what causes W.E. to drop, but don't view it as being a big deal since

the W.E. hotkey will bring it back for me. Just my two sence whatever
 that's worth these days!

 Hi Vaughan:

Having taken the survey as well, I think that although braille wasn't
mentioned specifically, there were oppertunities for the person taking the
survey to bring that up. For instance, as I recall, there was a question
which asked us to list, or tell them what should be improved.
We could have mentioned the braille support or whatever. To be honest, I
hadn't thought of it, so I'm glad that you did.
My other comment is that since GW Micro is now part of AISquared, and since
AISquared's flagship product is Zoomtext, Screen enlargement is probably
more of an issue to them right now. I hope that Braille remains a priority
for AISquared and that Window-eyes will continue to work on improving its
 braille support as needed.

Specificallyh: no mention of braille, but referfence to magnification.

There were no questions relating to customer support, or the absence
thereof if you live outside the United States.

Including questions which enable users to rank the importance of touch
screen access and dictation signal the modern reality of computer
access, but probably due to Microsoft's attitude, screen reader access
to Windows is falling a long way behind the efforts of Apple and to a
  lesser extent, Google.
