All this would be great advice if an app were at issue. But the 
Office helper is a DLL file that is supposed to load with any Office 
application. On the rare occasions when I've gotten it to load, it's 
been because the autoload registry setting was manually changed 
before running Word. Once Word runs for the first instance, it 
changes that autoload binary value from 3 to 2 because there's a 
runtime error when initializing and loading the Window-eyes addin.
I also note that most times, since the Window-eyes helper addin is 
unchecked at Word's startup, checking it does not actually load the 
addin, so the document cursor is never determined. Put differently, 
even after manually loading or checking the Window-eyes helper addin, 
it never actually loads.
Most frustrating of all, the helper addin loads fine in Excel, 
Powerpoint, Outlook, etc., just not in Word.

Unfortunately, the Office Addin is a DLL file, not an app. Without 
it, Window-eyes will not be able to determine the cursor position, 
much less track highlighted text. The office addin helper can in fact 
be used without any running apps, since it is not an app.

suspect corrupt permissions issues are the culprit, but I've done two fresh
operating system reinstallations.

I've talked to Chris on the phone multiple times and left Steve 
various voicemail messages. Chris suggested a system reset, which 
only temporarily solved the problem before Windows updated itself and 
I reinstalled my usual programs.

Well, got my problem solved.
I got help through the Microsoft disabilities desk.
We resaved the changes in my power management and he made some adjustments 
in Window-Eyes and windows.

Now the start menu is read all the time.

I know that there is some focus issues with Windows 10. I don't know if this
has anything to do with your problem or not. My WE stops reading at

Hi,
As I understand it, this is just a bug that some of us lucky ones have.  It's 
extremely annoying, but I presume it will be fixed. If you paid for your 
Window-Eyes, then you can call and talk to them.  
I've not used classic shell, but I think this problem is a question of 
Window-Eyes not being able to hook into the start menu, or not, smile.
Narrator works, since there's nothing wrong with the start menu.  I also have a 
problem with Window-Eyes sometimes not seeing the Windows 10 calculator.  
Narrator reads it beautifully though.
I don't yet have the Anniversary edition of Windows 10, so perhaps this will 
fix the problem, assuming it could be on Microsoft's end.  Did you upgrade your 
computer from Windows 7?  There seem to be more problems that Window-Eyes can't 
control for, for those of us who have a Windows 7 upgrade.

I know that there is some focus issues with Windows 10. I don't know if this 
has anything to do with your problem or not. My WE stops reading at 
different times, and I have to restart WE a lot of those times to get voice 
back. I just keep hopeing that the issue will be taken care of in some

Hi,
There hasn’t been any change in my problem.
After about 9 minutes of the computer being idle, Window-Eyes no longer reads 
the start menu.
However, narrator picks it up.
This all started when I installed version 9.5.3.
I hope that a solution will be found.

I've successfully downloaded and installed Win-Eyes 9.5.3 on my Windows 7
Desktop PC. I'm running Outlook 2013, and I, too, hear lines of text being
repeated.  It's better if I opoen the message, then hold down the control
key after speech begins. Of course, that stops all speech. Then I issue the
read-to-end command to hear the text. Even then, however I usually hear
lines being repeated, always at the top of the message, but occasionally
further down, too, as if a new paragraph causes it.  What's more, the
process of hitting Enter to open the message is followed by a long pause
before reading begins, like perhaps 2 or 3 seconds, and then tapping the
control key to stop speech, then issuing the read-to-end command--well, you
get the idea, it's a real trial of one's patience! And it's been going on
for quite some time, by which I mean for at least 4 upgrades now, and I've
written e-mails of complaint about it long, long before today.

Question, how do I get ThunderBird to automatically open all messages in 
new tabs?  Right now, I use the arrow key to find and highlight the 
message in question, then press the context menu key arrow down to 'open 
message in new tab' and press enter.  So what I am asking is, how do I

Tony, I have the same issue with ThunderBird. Have had it since before 
my windows upgrade to windows 10 Approximately a month or so with 7.  
Not certain of what causes this but I will generally read the first few 
lines by simply arrowing donw through the message.  Seems as though I 
read on the W.E. group about a solution to this issues but it has been a

My way around this is to make sure Thunderbird is open and then close 
and restart Window-Eyes.  It works quite well.
