If you're using end-of-life operating systems, you have to accept that at some point you'll have to keep using old programs, too. IMAP account problems on one computer
I recently switched my main e-mail account from POP3 to IMAP. I'm running The Bat on two computers, with identical settings, and while it works fine on one computer, it's nearly unusable on the second computer: - messages don't download automatically despite "Message download preferences" being set to "Get entire message" for both read and unread messages, and when clicking a message, it sometimes takes several minutes before it downloads; same for sending messages, it takes minutes before the message is processed (Outbox, Sent and Trash are set to use IMAP folders) - the green arrows on folders never disappear (TB is set to update counters every 5 minutes), and counts in folders are almost never updated - thebat64.exe constantly uses 26% CPU (the second computer has a quad-core i5-2400 CPU) - I even tried deleting TB's profile folder and re-creating the account, but nothing changed (account folder on disk hovers around 156 MB, while it's 23 GB on my primary computer) At the same time, TB on my primary computer works entirely without any problems - periodically refreshes folders (I have a lot of filters set-up server-side), downloads messages without any delay and doesn't have problems sending. I've got The Bat 9.4.5 on both computers, first one is running Windows 11, while the second one is Windows 10 21H1. -- < Jernej Simončič ><><><><><><><><><><><>< https://eternallybored.org/ > Because 10 billion years' time is so fragile, so ephemeral... it arouses such a bittersweet, almost heartbreaking fondness. This happens with every HTML message that needs scrolling. Here's an example with horizontal scrollbar: <https://eternallybored.org/misc/imgs/thebat/scroll1.gif> And an example without a horizontal scrollbar: <https://eternallybored.org/misc/imgs/thebat/scroll2.gif> Pay attention to the line with highlighted text (blue background) in both examples. If you wish, I can still send these two messages to you, but the same thing happens with every long HTML message. The image is definitely zoomed in for me. Also noticed another problem – the image file I was inserting was 8735 bytes on disk; when I saved the message as draft, it somehow became 12648 bytes; after I opened the draft and sent it, the image somehow became 16 kB, almost twice the size of the original. This probably shouldn't happen. And a spell checker problem: in the word "shouldn't" above (and here), the "shouldn" part is treated as if spelled wrongly (red underline) – looks like the checker is treating ' as word separator for some reason. Also, there's a misspelling in the version number: Apha :) -- < Jernej Simončič ><><><><>< https://eternallybored.org/ > Any simple idea must be worded in the most complicated way. -- Attorneys Operating Principle TheBat! Another annoyance is that spacebar scrolling scrolls exactly 1 viewport height, meaning if there's a partially visible line of text at the bottom of the window, the same line will be partially visible at the top after scrolling (which makes spacebar scrolling rather unusable). Also, when hovering over a link in HTML viewer, the tooltip at the bottom of the window is still only partially visible. -- < Jernej Simončič ><><><><>< https://eternallybored.org/ > A falling body always rolls to the most inaccessible spot. -- Bernstein's Second Law TheBat!
