I have several authentic Coal Miner "soft hats/helmets" for mounting a carbide
light and minor head protection. Those are probably worn prior to 1940. Now I
also have my original caving helmet, black hard shell with a small bill only on

Three times we have been to Rockport to go on Whooping Crane tours at the
Aranus National Wildlife Refuge. We stayed at Goose Island , twice, and a motel
right on the water once and I am afraid both were hit hard, dead center of the
storm. The Live Oaks down there are huge and beautiful so hope

Yesterday, I stopped by the Brownville Dam on the Green River inside the edge
of Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park. The dam is completely removed. IMHO this is great
news. That removal has been talked about for decades and I am sure volumes of
studies have been made. But, late last year the dam

with Mammoth Cave who are buried in that cemetery, the most famous caver

cavers and I am more than glad I am a memberOver the years I have heard
several cavers who have contributed to caving, some in huge ways, say they are
not a NSS member because if they joined their number would be high. OK, but a
silly reason, my opinion.

knew him said. Lived a low key life, did not spend much, did not have a vehicle
for many years. Some of his work has been noted in earlier emails.
