Thanks. You are correct, the Touch did ask me for that and I put that
exact address.

Whichever is least expensive. Any basic switch will do. Doesn't
matter.

Excellent, thanks!
Which switch would you guys recommend? OR should I just throw a dart and
choose?
Netgear GS105 (OR FS105?)
D-LINK DES-105
Linksys SE3005

The ports on the ethernet switch are all the same. Plug any device into
any port you like.
Yes, you should be able to keep the same settings on the PC and existing
Squeezebox.
I don't recall if the steps to configure the Transporter's network
configuration are the same, but it should be similar.
Cool, ok! Thanks guys. So I just plug PC to port 1, Touch to port 2 and
Transporter to 3?
So if I hook a switch between my PC and Touch today do I just keep the
same settings that I have already put into place?
Current settings:
On my Windows 7, I went to Local Area Connection Properties. I do

Just thought I'd bring this old thread back for this question...
I'm still using a crossover cable to connect my Touch with my PC. It's
nice not having to bother with a router. Anyway, I was thinking about
buying a Transporter as well. I happen to have a couple extra crossover
cables. Can I conne
Nothing really to achieve. I was just curious if I could speed up file
access since I tend to power my SBT down from time to time. It's really
not that slow for me (I don't have THAT many files). There's some good
sales this time of year for routers, so I figured trying one wouldn't
hurt. Anyway,

Just a quick follow-up question to this thread I started awhile back...
I'm trying to achieve the fastest network speed possible between my PC
and SBT. My current setup, as mentioned above, is wired but router-less.

Yeah, I guess I'm not as old school as I was. Although I mainly listen
to vinyl rips on my SBT. :)
Oh and I do have a second one, for a back up. Hopefully I'll put it to
better use one day.

Actually, to network more devices all he would need is a network switch,
not a router. It would be easier with a router, though, as he could use
DHCP instead of ma

Glad you got it working. By the way, you're not too old school...you're
using a digital network streamer to play digitized music. I know some
real old school guys. It's all turntables, tube amps, and vinyl for
them. :p

Smart phones? What are those? But seriously, I hate cell phones. I have
a basic cell for emergency use only and that's it. :) Yes I'm very old
school.
In any case, I got it to work in only ten minutes after hooking up the
crossover cable. I haven't turned my receiver on yet but I played the

^^^ This is good advice!
I have a mobile system I use for parties: SB3, laptop, USB HDs with
music, Peavey keyboard amp to make some noise and a cheap wifi router to
connect the SB and laptop. I can then control everything with my phone
and tablet.
TP-Link makes a cheap and, in my experience (a
any reason you don't want to simply add a router to your location (even
without the internet connection). Then you can connect the PC to the
router and the Touch can be placed anywhere (connected via WIFI). And
you have the added benefit of using your smart phone (via wifi) to
control the TOUCH.
Cool, ok. Thanks.

mysqueezebox.com is needed mostly for accessing music services. Since
you can't access them anyway without an internet connection, I'm not
sure you'd be missing anything else.

Ok, sounds simple enough...I hope.
What about not accessing mysqueezebox.com? Is there anything I'm
missing? What about setting up the unit? (enabling/disabling features,
etc)

Last time I looked, the initial setup of the Touch can be a little
tricky without an internet connection. IIRC, when you get to the point
in the setup where it asks you to create a mysqueezebox.com account, you
can press and hold the left arrow in the upper left corner of the screen
and it will ta
Excuse the rather rudimentary question. (Especially if it's already
mentioned in a FAQ) I've previously been using my SBT's internal server.
Now I have my PC in the same room as my SBT, so I wish to make a wired
