I found one commit from the 5.3 branch that sounds possibly associated -
https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/88153/ - and I've built it so that
you can test it by:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:canonical-qt5-edgers/qt5-daily
sudo apt update
sudo apt dist-upgrade

It should work both on rtm and utopic images.

In a certainly promising way I was able to crash it once before
upgrading, and I don't get it to crash after updating, but it might be
luck also.

Can you confirm Michael if that helps with the issue? If so, we don't
need actual development resources allocated and I can start
landing/testing process for that backported patch.

  This is easiest to reproduce with the camera-app, as this has a number
  of large components that get loaded asynchronously on start-up,
  however I believe it should be possible to trigger in any app that

  2. Whilst loading, swipe to the app switcher.

  3. Close camera-app.

John, I appreciate your frustration. But look at the Ubuntu bug list.

reports -- as I write this, there are 73192 that haven't even been
confirmed yet. The purpose of a bug tracker is not to record every bug
that people have ever encountered. The purpose of a bug tracker is to
help developers make best use of their time. Generally, developer time
is better spent fixing known-reproducible bugs than investigating
unreproduced ones. And ensuring that people have installed all updates
is a simple way of preventing bug reports that may not be reproducible
at all.

Since I reported this bug, for a large majority of Ubuntu users, apport
has switched from helping them report bugs to submitting error reports.
Because this requires only one click, and no Launchpad account, we get
orders of magnitude more error reports than we ever did of bug reports.
And error reports are accepted regardless of whether you have installed
all updates. So it is not correct that if apport prevents you from
reporting a bug, the bug will never be fixed.

Nevertheless, fixing this bug would still be useful. If you want it to
be fixed, the best thing you can do is to find someone to test and/or
review Abhinav's patch. Commenting in this bug report is the least
effective way of doing that, because everyone subscribed to the bug
report already knows that the patch exists.

Thanks, although I'm still not entirely clear. I should rephrase my
question :)

Is the application given a chance to shut down cleanly (ie, the
destructors for things like the QCoreApplication and any QQmlEngines
run), or is it just killed? This bug would suggest either the latter, or
resources not being cleaned up properly (which would sync the
application cache to disk and would have prevented this problem)

  Hi,
  gdb shows wrong values for variables when displayed through print variable 
name command. Although it is not the case always and I cannot figure out 
under what circumstances this happens. 
  I checked the value of the variable by adding printf command directly in the 
code, the actual value printed to stdout is correct. Only the gdb shows wrong 
value.

  Environment details : 
  Linux mint 15 (based on Ubuntu 13.04)

  gdb version :
  GNU gdb (GDB) 7.5.91.20130417-cvs-ubuntu

  gdb configuration:
  i686-linux-gnu

  steps to reproduce the bug:

  compile the attached c source code (source code is a simple demo of 
getopt_long function) using,
  gcc -o gdb_bug_rpt gdb_bug_rpt.c -g -Wall -pedantic

  run the code using gdb
  gdb ./gdb_bug_rpt
  cmds given below are gdb commands,
  (gdb)break main
  (gdb)run -o file1 file 2 file3
  (gdb)next
  ...
  (gdb)next (step through the code until line --printf (value of 
optind = %d\n, optind);
  now check value of optind variable using print cmd
  (gdb)print optind 
  gdb will display the value to be 1, but the actual value is 3 ,which you can 
see by executing the printf line.
  Also the value of optind is assigned to variable i.you can also check the 
value of i using print i after executing the foe loop for the first time. the 
value of i is also found to be 3.

  But gdb displays wrong values to the user.

It's a seed change, late in the game, getting input from the release

  UX Testing Report finding  recommendation:

  No incentive to discover scopes beyond the apps scope.  Lack of
  strong visual cues to hint swiping from the apps scope to discover
  more scopes on the right.

  In the SURU divider pagination pattern (as currently used by the
  Dash), change the selected colour from orange to white.

  When the Scopes slide, the SURU divider portion of the screen should
  not slide (it should remain static).  The state of the 'dot'
  pagination pattern should of course change. Keeping the SURU divider
  static should make the change to the pagination pattern more
  noticeable.

  You'll have to compile (prototype) the Youtube scope from source
  (https://launchpad.net/unity-scope-youtube/), as it's not in distro
  yet.

  Basically the workflow is:
  1) Search for something that has a result with a scope URI for the current 
scope. In the case of Youtube, search for queenofficial to get Queen's music 
channel.
  2) Preview the first item (the channel itself), and click the search button.
  3) This runs a new query for the current scope, but doesn't switch away from 
the preview view).
  4) You will see a preview of the first video in the new results list.

  Like when searching other scopes, the view should be returned to the
  results list, instead of saying in the preview view.

I’m not sure how exactly upstart’s Stop() method is implemented, but
from my observations swiping an application away from the app switcher
doesn’t give it a chance to shut down cleanly, i.e. it is killed. Which
explains the issue.

Title:
Logitech wireless mouse periodically loses correct click behaviour

Bug description:
This problem began with the 14.04 upgrade. The mouse has always worked
normally until then.

Approximately every 10 minutes left-clicks are not registered properly to the
topmost window. They usually appear to go through to the window below and
it's not possible to switch focus to a new window (or any other window). Mouse
movement is unaffected and clicking on the original window (which has grabbed
the focus) seems to work. The Unity bar pops out but is not clickable and
rapidly re-hides. Sometimes individual window elements are not usable even if
the main window itself is. Examples:
* In Thunderbird, left-pane account/folder selection works, but does not
perform the corresponding update to the message list/preview panes when the
folder selection changes.
* dialogues are popped up where parts of the dialogue respond to clicks but
other parts do not. Commonly, the dialogue title/menu bar is not responsive (it
cannot be moved/closed).

Sometimes right-clicking will restore focus to the appropriate
window/area. Sometimes not.

Unloading and reloading usbhid and hid_logitech modules does not help.

Restarting will fix the problem temporarily.

WORKAROUND: Switch to a console and back will fix the problem
temporarily via Ctrl-Alt-F1 and then Ctrl-Alt-F7.

The bug happens when I clicked on desktop and pressed menu bar but
pressed too many times and many alignment windows opened on top of right
click window. I closed these alignment windows then I realized shortcuts
and mouse clicks don't respond but for example holding windows button
opens keyboard shortcuts window.

Sorry if the attached bug report is not because of this bug but I
followed guidelines and generated report using given commands. I can
produce the bug whenever I want but whole system locks down and I need
to use ctrl alt f1 consoles to restart (yes they work well)

  These are Unity level gestures that allow the user to reveal and
  interact with shell elements like the Launcher.  To reduce the number
  of false positives, edge drag gestures are only triggered when a user
  drags their finger over the edge of the screen and the drag does not
  have following charastics:

  - If the initial velocity is zero or close to zero an edge gesture is
  not triggered.  The gesture is passed through to the app.  This is
  because the intended gesture is probably a tap or a hold

  - If the initial velocity is high an edge gesture is not triggered.
  The gesture is passed through to the app.  This is because the
  intended gesture is probably a flick

  - If the initial direction is not close to perpendicular to the edge
  an edge gesture is not triggered.  This is because the intended
  gesture may be a vertical drag.

  - If at the gesture’s initiation the user has more than one finger
  touching the screen an edge gesture is not triggered.  This is because
  the intended gesture may be a pinch, spread or rotate.

  - Implement the heuristics defined above for detecting edge gestures
  to reduce the incidence of false positives.

  - The exact values for these heuristics should be easily modifiable so
  that we can experiment with different values to find the optimal
  values.

  Crash in QML compiler if terminated whilst compiling asynchronous

  Reproducible on mako and krillin using devel-proposed r248 or rtm r50

  This is easiest to reproduce with the camera-app, as this has a number
  of large components that get loaded asynchronously on start-up,
  however I believe it should be possible to trigger in any app that
  contains asynchronous Loaders.

  Steps to reproduce

  1. Start camera-app

  2. Whilst loading, swipe to the app switcher.

  3. Close camera-app.

  Expected result

  App closes cleanly

  Actual result

  Sometimes the app segfaults whilst closing

  It may take multiple attempts to cause a crash, as the SIGTERM signal
  has to be received at a certain point during the compilation process
  for the crash to occur.

  
  Back trace of an example crash:

  There are still 1 items in the process of being created at engine 
destruction.

Bug description:
  Change the pin/un-pin terminology to Add to Launcher or Remove
  from Launcher.  Remove all traces of the word Pin.

  This was the original terminology but since it caused confusion with
  the recent applications in launcher. That's because a favourite app
  that was recent wasn't really removed from the launcher but
  unfavourited/unpinned when Remove from Launcher was selected.

  As we now propose getting rid of recent apps from the launcher (bug
  1368826) we should move back using Add/Remove terminology which is
  easier to understand than pin/un-pin.

I can only reproduce this on Ubuntu if I use the old nautilus window
still pointing to the files; rather than the newly-opened window from
re-connecting the USB cable. This makes it not an issue in mtp; and it's
unclear whether this is actually fixable in nautilus/gvfs itself.

I'm marking this as Invalid for the mtp project; since it does appear to
work properly when you have a valid session on the device (and it's as
simple as using the actual window what pops up, above the others, to
browse back to the path and delete the folder).

I'm also creating a task against gvfs (for lack of a better idea of
where to assign this). I'm not sure if it's something that can be done
yet or if it actually goes against designed used cases; but on closing
the session with MTP, I think the window itself for that should
disappear, or at least be cleared of the MTP folder data. You should at
the very least no longer be able to see the folder contents.

  SUMMARY:
  After disconnecting and reconnecting device to MTP host it is not possible to 
delete a folder using MTP

  STEPS:
  1) Connect Ubuntu device to host PC over USB
  2) Copy some music content to the music folder on MTP device including some 
folder structure
  3) Eject the Ubuntu device's USB connection
  4) Re-insert Ubuntu device USB
  5) Browse to MTP Music folder on device
  6) Try to delete some of the music folders that were just added

  EXPECTED RESULT:

  The content should be deleted successfully.

  ACTUAL RESULT:

  After a delay of about 30 seconds Ubuntu presents error:
  libmtp error: could not delete object.
  It is then not possible to copy any content to or from the device.

  Windows also fails to delete the content with error stating that
  device has been disconnected.

  Note that it is possible to delete files when the device is re-
  connected. It is when deleting a parent folder that the problem
  occurs.

  Installing ibus 1.5.5-1ubuntu1 breaks Emacs 24's control-space
  keybinding.  I generally have that bound to a custom lisp function,
  but by default (e.g. starting with `emacs -Q`) it is bound to set-
  mark-command.  After doing a dist-upgrade in Trusty which installs
  ibus 1.5.5-1ubuntu1, emacs no longer even sees the control-space key
  chord.  My guess is that ibus is consuming this event, preventing
  emacs from seeing it.  This is a critical regression that makes emacs
  almost unusable.

The problem is caused by the timezone setting being different at the
android layer and at the ubuntu layer. The android layer seems to always
use the UTC tz, and that is what it writes in the EXIF tags when it
returns the encoded jpeg data to libhybris.

The attached branch fixes the problem by updating the EXIF tags with the
correct timestamps in qtubuntu-camera, before saving the image to disk
and notifying the apps.

However according to ogra there might be a way to fix this by making sure we 
set the tz in android too when we set it in ubuntu.

  Super+Space is default combination for switching keyboard layouts in
  gnome3, unity, Mac OS X, Windows. Thus for consistently, Xorg;
  console-setup; and ubiquity should also use Super+Space combination
  for switching keyboard layouts.

  reading xkeyboard-config sources and documentations i don't see that
  xkeyboard-config can support grp:lwin_space and i guess that needs to
  be the first step to properly support super+space.

  Recently I installed Ubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu GNOME 13.10.
  I use two keyboard layouts - English and Russian.
  So I select them on the corresponding screen of ubiquity setup wizard.

  It quietly set the keyboard switching shortcut to Alt+Shift and wrote this 
setting to /etc/default/keyboard:

  On first boot of installed system the small notification pop-up showed

  1. Open Phone app, make sure you have some made/received/missed calls
  2. Carry out a bottom edge full swipe to access your recent calls
  3. Tap on a recent call

  4. Current behaviour - number is directly dialed back

  Desired solution:

  After tapping on the list item in the recent view, the number should be 
pre-populated into the dialer app.
  In user testing, too many accidental calls were made. By putting the number 
first into the dialer, user has to confirm the call by tapping the green call 
button.

  Desired resolution:
  Remove the first step (first three list items) of the swipe. User should be

Title:
  [enhancement] allow MTP access for authenticated computers

Bug description:
  In accordance with
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityAndPrivacySettings/ProtectingUserData,
  MTP currently refuses to show any folders when connecting the device
  to a system and the device's screen is locked (good). A nice future
  enhancement might be to do something similar to what is planned with
  adb-- using a certificate or token for each system the device connects
  to. Eg, it might look something like this:

  1. Janet plugs in a locked device to her new laptop
  2. MTP checks to see if this system (the new laptop) is known to the device
  3. Since it is not, MTP checks the state of the screensaver and sees that it 
is locked, so refuses to export any directories
  4. Janet unlocks the screen on the device and the files are exported to her 
laptop
  5. Meanwhile on the device, MTP prompts Janet with:
  Detected new system. Unconditionally export MTP files to this system in 
the future?
  [ ] yes [ ] no
  6. Janet answers 'yes' and MTP adds Janet's new laptop to its database of 
known devices
  7. Janet performs file transfers via MTP, then unplugs the device and goes 
out to dinner, taking a lot of fun pictures
  8. Janet returns home and plugs her locked device into her laptop
  9. MTP checks to see if this system (the new laptop) is known to the device
  10. Since Janet answered 'yes' in step '6', the files are exported to her 
laptop (without having to unlock the screen) and she can copy her fun pictures 
to her laptop

  If Janet answered 'no' in step '6', after performing step '9', MTP
  would proceed to step '3' instead of '10'.

  This probably requires design for the user interactions. Eg, perhaps
  it would be good to remember if the user answered 'no' in step '5'.
  Also, it would be good to be able to revoke systems from the database
  of known devices.

  This is not for RTM. This is not a security requirement. This is for
  UX.

Title:
  [enhancement] allow MTP access for authenticated computers

Status in “mtp” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  In accordance with
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityAndPrivacySettings/ProtectingUserData,
  MTP currently refuses to show any folders when connecting the device
  to a system and the device's screen is locked (good). A nice future
  enhancement might be to do something similar to what is planned with
  adb-- using a certificate or token for each system the device connects
  to. Eg, it might look something like this:

  1. Janet plugs in a locked device to her new laptop
  2. MTP checks to see if this system (the new laptop) is known to the device
  3. Since it is not, MTP checks the state of the screensaver and sees that it 
is locked, so refuses to export any directories
  4. Janet unlocks the screen on the device and the files are exported to her 
laptop
  5. Meanwhile on the device, MTP prompts Janet with:
  Detected new system. Unconditionally export MTP files to this system in 
the future?
  [ ] yes [ ] no
  6. Janet answers 'yes' and MTP adds Janet's new laptop to its database of 
known devices
  7. Janet performs file transfers via MTP, then unplugs the device and goes 
out to dinner, taking a lot of fun pictures
  8. Janet returns home and plugs her locked device into her laptop
  9. MTP checks to see if this system (the new laptop) is known to the device
  10. Since Janet answered 'yes' in step '6', the files are exported to her 
laptop (without having to unlock the screen) and she can copy her fun pictures 
to her laptop

  If Janet answered 'no' in step '6', after performing step '9', MTP
  would proceed to step '3' instead of '10'.

  This probably requires design for the user interactions. Eg, perhaps
  it would be good to remember if the user answered 'no' in step '5'.
  Also, it would be good to be able to revoke systems from the database
  of known devices.

  This is not for RTM. This is not a security requirement. This is for
  UX.
