You have far more patience then I could with regard to police.
I feel like they are no better than, common criminals, and I am not even a
minority skin color.
Which shouldn't matter, white or not, everyone should be treated the same
sort of way with regard to justice...

xfburn or dd are my recommendations.
personally I now use usb flash drives + dd.
Best solution ever... for me anyways.
Ah okay, well that makes sense. I am curious though why you had that domain
in your email. at all...
But yeah, it is fascinating to me.
Jxself isn't bobcall.me the email for RISC-ATOM the person who maintains
librecmc?
Are you really him?
Just wondering.
Using a proprietary os in a virtual machine is bad, but connecting that os
also to the internet is much, much worse.
And worse still is to install the proprietary os as your main os, that is the
worst of all...
Virtual Machines are the better option, and I know I have been guilty of this
Oh really, So your telling me this isn't just a tv show, it is actual
reality?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smurfs
Cool man, this knowledge opens up so many possibilities although if anyone
finds them they will probably turn them into gold...
;p
couldn't resist...
xD
I agree Jodiendo, we need more smurfs, but people will just use things like
facts and scientific data to say there is no such thing as smurfs...
darn...
xD
But yeah my other responses aside, he does make a good point.
Jxself, I wasn't trying to be a whitewasher,
I am merely saying, there are different levels of evil with regard to
non-free stuff.
Some are worse than others obviously such as microsoft and google and apple.
Then there are gnu/linux distros that have more in common with linux that gnu
phil
Sure, that's fine, but do read my above post to see what I am getting at.
Proprietary I think of as having no freedoms whatsoever or no way to regain
all four freedoms.
non-free I think of as being semi-free but possibly workable.
Example: Ubuntu
I mean trisquel is a fork now of ubuntu. so yeah...
That's just me.
laptop-mode-tools.
Enough said.
:)
I also think there should be a term for software that can be made free but
not without tweaks.
non-free but can become free.
Not sure what that would be without sounding dumb though. ;)
I am curious, do you think you will ever be able to put libreboot on one of
those 2 in 1 laptops in the future?
I am curious not because I need one, but because its a thing of interest to
me. To know for the future. Recommendations, etc...
POWER9 < RISC-V
But both are better for the most part.
Agreed, it is still better than preypal.
And your right, libre software takes time and sometmes has issues in the
beginning.
Alas, LXDE development is being slowed, I wish LXQT would either be made to
look like LXDE,
or
LXDE would be forked to continue in GTK3.
Not that I don't usually prefer XFCE, but yeah, the reason I went with XFCE
is because LXDE was going to be replaced in the near future with LXQT.
I thought I had replied to this before, but yeah, Ubuntu unlike the
mainstream oses, at least doesn't make your computer into a tyrant. Meaning
you cannot escape it. So to those who say, Ubuntu is bad, there is worse...
;/
Much, much worse options...
I would rather welcome people to use Ub
The crazy thing is,.. Even without the graphics being non-free intel still
gave plenty of hurdles for people to overcome...
It seems they are dead set on this path of proprietary control.
I don't really get why they do it at all, but seriously, graphics used to be
the thing that we could cou
I agree with you about upstart and snappy.
But unity wasn't very special.
As for the contributor license agreement, perhaps that was what I was
thinking of when I thought it was non-free.
IF you want light, there are two options, XFCE or LXQT
LXDE will be used less and less in the future or I would have mentioned that.
Mate isn't bad though. But XFCE is my favorite, then LXQT takes a hard
second with one exception, LXQT is extremely ugly compared to LXDE.
meh...
My thanks for the correction.
I had no idea about this.
Yeah, I agree anything based on gnome 3 is far from light.
Didn't know that dropbox even had gpl software in it...
Okay I guess that's news to me.
Hmm...
The funny thing, dropbox I always knew was bad. But megasync, it took me
maybe a year or two to learn how dangerous it was. So yeah, I get why he
thought it was safe.
Dropbox though he should have known was a problem...
Dunno why he didn't know that.
the eoma68 laptop might be a good idea, but it won't be out till november I
believe We shall see if it is as good as is hoped. ;)
I have only had one annoying issue, but I suspect it was an uncommon error:
That I got charged twice and the payment was only corrected, the next day.
Weird indeed, but for the most part, Liberapay is a very, very good idea.
CAPTCHA IS EVIL! WE MUST DESTROY CAPTCHA AND WE MUST DESTROY ALL NON-FREE
SOFTWARE AND DESTROY EVERYTHING PROPREITARY!
I AM NOT CRAZY FOR TALKING IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS!
AND FOR TALKING ABOUT NUKING ALL NON-FREE PROPREITARY
SOFTWARE!
xD
trolol...
I do recall there being a voice command called festival I believe for
trisquel? Is this what you want?
There are no stupid questions Philippe_Duteil.. IS what I would have said
before I realized what the internet is really like.
xD
But anyways, I wonder why Gnome would have no issues with that adapter.
Maybe GNOME isn't as bad as I thought it is. Although it does look clunky

I agree, this thread should stay dead. This is the last time I will reply,
for this reason...
however, I felt the need to point out, that the thread where I lost interest
in fighting about systemd is, here:
read this comment from that thread if you have interest:
https://trisquel.info/en/f
Never, EVER connect windows xp in a vm to the internet. Just asking from
trouble to do so...
As long as you don't do that, or add some dangerous .exe file into the guest
windows xp vm, you should be okay I think.
Unless you have intel me in your laptop of course... ;/
Openwatcom is terrible, I wish that someone would freakin fork Virtualbox's
source code in such a way that openwatcom and any other garbage is no longer
required.
That would be so awesome.
I highly recommend having WinXP disconnected from the internet when possible.
:/
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly.
This probably is either an error or some sort of joke or better yet, for when
it becomes eol for real.
I succeeding in installing it on my netbook so yeah your probably right.
I probably donated my share here a while back, at one point it was 5$ a month
for a while, and at one point 15$
I think I probably donated 50$+
And yes, liberapay.com is an excellent idea. I would bet you guys would get
anywhere from 100$ to 1k a month if you did this. :)
Well, the trisque
I didn't completely follow, still...
I just felt someone should say that in case t3g didn't know. :)
He will probably in a year or so complain about trisquel 9 not being
released. Just a guess...
Libreboot devices are refurbished in general.
I got mine from libiquity, but he only sells x200 libreboot devices, same
though with the vikings.net store, just cheaper.
Sometimes discounts occur and the rest I dunno...
MagicBanana may answer better than I on this stuff.
PS, T3g if you are looking at this thread, you can stop complaining and just
upgrade. ;)
That would make sense. For such basic use 2gb should be fine.
Well, I am impressed Quidam, how did you go from, testing, to stable in 12
days?
Doesn't testing to stable usually take a whole lot longer? It does in debian
anyways...
hmm... Let's test this on my other laptop.
I would look at the prices on minifree. To be honest you probably only need
4gb of ram unless your a developer/power user.
4 will work fine for virtualization if needed. otherwise it should be more
than enough.
ps, 32 bit is a bad idea I wholeheartedly agree. :/
Libreboot is the best for that purpose,
minifree.org, https://store.vikings.net/
are good choices for libreboot devices. Tehnoetic though has some models that
those two don't have. But yeah... those are good.
I myself use an x200 and it works great for most of my uses.
Best of all, no intel
Absolutely agree 100% Librem is not free hardware.
I am curious why Tehnoetic's tct doesn't have that in his avatar.
Odd yes?
Anyways, x200 is better if librebooted although, gnome 3 in my opinion sucks.
And for those who don't know, I am not saying due to its requirements. It is
more becaus
Libreboot devices are the safest/most secure that I can think of.
Until the eoma68 standard comes out with a laptop. Hopefully not just that
a20 processor. :)
X60s is the best option I believe. Usually the s version of X60 or X200,
etc... has more battery life. That's my personal opinion.
I would say Parabola is very easy to break though even if you are doing all
the updates upgrades, etc...
Hyperbola though doesn't have a graphical install yet... so that is also
complicated.
Devuan however is childs play for me. :)
Still, I prefer Hyperbola any day of the week.
Use lxterminal and kill abrowser
Simple yes? hehe...
No, FreeNix is a good idea.
I have too, Devuan actually booted faster on a 20 year old libreboot laptop.
for me also. (X200)
I am hesitant to say more given the furher has many servants here at this
point.
I would prefer not to start another thread war over this, but yeah, I highly
doubt its worth it.
This is definitely bullshit, I have never had any and I mean any problems
with noscript.
Matter of fact, noscript has blocked a lot of stuff even when I had
malwaresoft winblows 8.
Which is saying a lot.
ps, Noscript is free software which is a good jump above open source. aka
better.
This feels too biased for me. Sometimes people do after all, try to save face
by showing faultly information. I could be wrong of course, but yeah... don't
trust it myself.
Ah okay. Point taken by both messages.
I know xscreensaver is outdated, I will mention it to them. Though you can
too...
Same with Hyperbola. only systemd is now effectively gone.
:)
Devuan init freedom/stability/security + Parabola libre importance =
Hyperbola's way
My point I guess is Hyperbola has all those advantages.
Although it does have some weaknesses too of course... but for me they are
well worth
Ah, Okay then.. welp I am confused... you said it had proprietary binaries in
it I thought.
Well either way, I still find it good to use playonlinux or winetricks rather
then use straight forward windows or other proprietary oses.
Take it for what it is worth. :/
Yep, mhm I have had experience with this.
A bit of a pain but doable completely and totally.
I disagree strongly with this, our first goal as a libre community is to get
people off of... PROPRIETARY OPERATING SYSTEMS!
Such as crapple, winblows and google crapbooks...
Your context is meaningless for this reason. Such purity is admirable for
libre culture, but it is harmful to expect
Then why bother with making wine...
Isn't that the same concept...?
Why does no one, make a winetricks-libre/playonlinux-libre for
trisquel/parabola?
When I saw this thread, I thought about mentioning this, but it seems it is
irrelevant now that you did so... kudos!
That is good news considering how long ago icedove has been behind the
times...
38.8 is extremely old.
Ah okay, I am not experienced though with gimp or anything alternate *cough
micro* cough* crap* cough* paint *cough
Sarcasm seemed warranted... :)
Didn't even think female supremacists existed... Although that in hindsight
might have been a silly thing for me to think.
Abandinus isn't a bad name, as long as people get the inside joke. heh..
But meh...
I thought abrowser was based off of regular firefox not firefox esr...
But how did you add the shotgun to it?
That was my major point... ;)
Also in goldeneye. ;)
meh...
Heh, don't sweat it, I may have came across as, arrogant.
;/
ps, why the stallman with a shotgun picture? xD
How did you make such an avatar anyways...
VLC seems better imo.
heh, sorry I wasn't trying to sound condescending.
You already know why, ;) hint* sys* *hint tem* *hint D* hint*
Also though, the updates are much more infrequent, especially icedove. which
last I checked is still at 38.8 on trisquel 7.
And yes, this post was irrelevant.
sorry about that.
It is good that is he close to releasing trisquel 8. I most likely will still
not be using it as my main os. But I am glad you guys will soon have trisquel
8 as I am sure it will help software freedom advance.
Trisquel 8 has some things I may not like, but meh...
But for the free software co
Nope, not a clue. Looks like a good vendor. Just make sure you get the
libreboot stuff and not the coreboot heh.
Actually, searx.at has the best ciphers/score from both mozilla and ssllabs
https://stats.searx.xyz/
Only one caveat I know of though, it's default language is german.
Look at the ciphers and you will know why. its ecc baby!
I imagine it was just an error or misunderstanding.
good question, it looks more like the whole website. But you can feel free to
look around.
That is a good question, I looked just now and it is disroot.org that is
copylefted.
So icedove isn't at all bloated?
I use iceweasel with a few addons,
noscript being an obvious one of them given that it is like giving the tank
armor part of that which is firefox. Or in my case iceweasel. Hyperbola has
iceweasel package that is hardened which I use. ;)
ps, emulation can
Actually, its not hard to partition the disks.
One is for root, one is for swap. say, 4GB for swap.
the rest goes to root.
make sure the root partition is bootable, and the swap one has linux
swap/solaris type.
Now if you want encryption, that is much harder. it took me a while to figure
Okay, its not really mature to thumb up your own post. Or to downvote
everyone you disagree with.
but yeah... you just make yourself look silly.
Disroot is the best at the moment. I wish I knew their exact license though.
Still, its copyleft so its good.
I just like the idea of a stable, secure, lightweight os.
The only thing I use my system that is not lightweight is my web browser,
email client, and sometimes emulation of sorts including dosbox.
The first comment that was made to you is accurate, but I will add also,
IF you desire encryption in hyperbola, it will be a bit harder. Unless your
doing FDE!
in which case, following the instructions is easy enough.
My reasons for Hyperbola and not Parabola aren't just systemd though,
Hy
Magicbanana, sorry, but I hate to say, I find this entertaining... although
utterly stupid and pointless.
And yes, unproductive in many different ways.
Yes, this!
"if you need more up to date software libraries and packages in the meantime
you can try the stable Hyperbola distribution (based on Arch with Debian
patches but not a rolling release)"
t3g should try this idea.
Although, encryption is a little trickier, but meh, better than co
Yes Jxself, I bet he couldn't fork Trisquel anymore than I could.
That's kind of what the first post I made was trying to say, albeit very
sarcasticly.
I usually don't see you get this steamed ever... He must have really crossed
the line huh...
Welp, somehow I am not surprised that t3g c
Use jxself's linux-libre-lts package. And you can have another way to boot
the system if need be. Just a thought.
Yes t3g because criticizing someones hard work when you do nothing to
contribute is totally a good way to show you care.
Yes this totally moves Ruben to want to work harder.
Indeed, feel free to flame him as much as you want. I am sure that will make
him work harder.
And I am sure that peo
Yep, this thread is kind of useless.
I didn't realize that was the issue.
Okay, you have a point.
Never is it good to steer people towards proprietary crap. Even if its
optional.
As Stallman says, optionally free is not enough.
Though in today's day and age it would be awesome just to have optionally
free hardware. That's a
Hate to break it to you all, but gdebi and dpkg can be used to install
propietary software also...
They now have a viewtube firefox addon just for your info...
ps, noscript is badass don't forget that addon. And if it becomes a pain set
allow globally dangerous scripts to on. You will still have rock solid
security. :)
Noscript is my #1 favorite firefox addon. That addon is the difference
between firefox being like chromium in security or being a thousand times
more secure. That's what I say anyways.
Noscript is the equivalent for your firefox browser like, being inside of a
tank is, against a pistol. At
If you are installing development tools or programming IDE's aka developer
stuff,
I think its normal. or the other two things aka 3d graphics proprietary
Software...
But I don't know, there may be other reasons... bugs, ??? or huge freakin
desktops such as kde, but yeah... I may be wrong,
If your system is 32 bit, you can switch to a libre version of slackware.
connochaetos.org
I would say most people don't need even 128gb unless they use proprietary, or
3d graphics or are a developer of some sort.
So yeah...
Well since this post has been bumped from death to life, I will just add,
that
my belief is that software patents not only shouldn't last longer than 10
years, but they are also anti competition, anti social, and easily abused to
turning people into the product.
Therefore, no matter what
Yep, I loved that title but troll lounge is a bit too relaxing of a name.
Sweet necro man! love it. :)
Ahhh... but yeah,
if telegram was under AGPL3 it would be trustworthy in every sense I would
think...
but if i recall correctly its under GPL3 which means the server can still be
proprietary sadly...
The server it connects to aka...
