I have been trying to find websites where you can watch videos using html5
AND webm.
I know Trisquel's Abrowser supports html5 in other formats, and I also know
that using viewtube and such addons, we can watch videos on virtually any
website, but:
1. H264, MP3, MOV, and other video formats
hum that is actually a very important question. I don't have any answer
but I also want to know that.
One of the reasons (maybe the main reason) I chose trisquel was because I
wanted to use a system that would respect me as a user (don't give my
personal info away for example!). It could
Well, it all depends on WHY one uses Trisquel. Some people actually want to
follow the latest fashions and have social networking, apps integrated that
know everything about them, all the whistles and bells, they just want to do
that with free software. For those people there is nothing wrong
I would have to read through ALL the code to be able to understand it... I am
not a programmer specialized in GIMP libraries... I agree that would be the
BEST way to do it, but I can't unfortunately.
THANKS!! =D This is the same as I used to have in TAILS. Sweet.
Too bad I can't make the program run, lol, but I am sure I will get around
that in time xD
HUm it surely looks promising, but as I said in another thread, we should
try to get rid of patented/proprietary/obfuscated stuff on the web. Instead
of trying to promote the use of Adobe Flash files just because we can now
load them, we should promote the move to html5/webm/whatever othe
Sorry, I can't get it to work. The only thing it did at least for now, was
taking a snapshot of the window I was at.
Could you please try to run it in your Trisquel and tell me if you did so
successfully? THANKS
Yes, another reason adding to the 3 reasons I already gave.
So, for example, I have been testing how much I can use the web without
flash, gnash, etclash. and without any addons on the browser. Just good html5

HUm Ok, I realize I had the wrong term there, those formats are patented
no proprietary. I know Trisquel uses free software to play mp3.
HOWEVER: due to patents on software formats/codecs, I still believe we should
use open/free formats/codecs instead of patented ones. Why?

Thanks for all the explanations.
Truth is, I am not saying that GIMP has malicious features built in. I just

Thanks for taking the time to read my introduction post =)
Like I said, I have a very personal and different opinion, and yes, it
sometimes is a little bit contradictory. Or at least some people think
so, I belive it is not.
Mainly, I am not against producing proprietary software, because
Ok, first... I won't get into an argument with you. I never said I was clever

As I said, I don't think either GIMP or Trisquel are doing anything

Hey there.
I have been experimenting with Tor for quite some time now, and I have read

Well, as I have stated in another post, I don't support the "illegal

I am really pleased to read your post =)

Funny, quantumgravity has been acting like an asshole towards me ever since I

That's what I thought.
I like to use words that better convey the meaning of things. "Piracy" is a
word that nowadays conveys the illegal sharing of something on the internet.

Sharing is good, yes. But sharing is when you pick something that's yours,
and give it to someone else. When you pick what is not yours, and use it/give
it to someone else/sell it, you are "stealing".
You can play around with the words, but the truth remains the same.

Exactly! If we don't care about copyright and disobey it, we will do more
harm than good, because we will break the power of GPL and CC and other free

We want changes in copyright laws and Public Domain laws, and we want more
freedom to share We have to fight for those changes,
Like I said, if you want to "share", share something that has a license that
says "share me". If you share something which has a license that says "don't

attack GPL, CC, and other free licenses.

I have not read a lot of that website, but I will tell you this: Free/open

Yes, you are right.

Hooray! That's great news!
Trisquel is once again keeping up with the needs of the users. Still the best

Unfortunately no. I tested the ports condition and there were a couple of

While I don't agree with everything vPro said, I would agree that you should

you can't trust it.
Please, calm down C'mon man, breath slowly That's good...
Now that you are at peace with the universe, please, explain, what is the

I guess one solution would be to stick with older machines for as long as

It's not perfect but is a solution.
As for laptops, if you can get one from a trusted friend (someone who you

I totally agree with you, and I forgot to mention yeeloong. But as far as I

What are those nanonote?
No unfortunately I don't use a router. But still, yes, deactivating the

Someone suggested to me to use Firestarter, well that's like using UFW or

I went to read about Nano, it seems interesting, but yes, still can't think

As for the Yeeloong, I don't really think I would change from Trisquel to

Some extra thoughts:
1. delete an email once you read it. Download if you want to keep it, but
delete. It won't protect you against the SERVER but it will protect you
against SOMEONE who gets access to you email account (no past messages for
him to read).
2. If you send and receive emails
Hey, he actually picked the right name for himself "vPro, a pain in the back,
no matter if it's a user or a technology". xD
Well, I have to agree. Unless you use some specific websites that need flash

More and more websites work with html5 these days, and html5 has not shown
(yet) to be half a pain in terms of security/privacy issues as flash.

Thank you very much for your help.
I will maybe try doing that, downloading all the deb files needed. Do you

I wouldn't think that was the reason, I remember reading an old thread
Html5 is still way better than flash ;)
Flash is unsecure and a real pain in the back. Html5 sometimes loads "non

so I don't really think of that as such a bad thing.
I just think it's stupid that so many websites

From what I read, the beagle board can actually use a "free bios" and can

Yes, it's really a broken system by this point.
There are two alternatives to someone who wants to be a little bit safer:

It means that Noscript will block all javascript, making it almost impossible
to use the web with it turned on (you have to click in a few dozen
