[Bug 1918972] Re: open_xfce doesn't respect xfce preferred file manager

2021-03-12 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Chrome uses xdg-open to open folders. Looks like open_xfce doesn't check
user settings, but instead tries a number of different open utilities
directly.

[Bug 1918972] [NEW] open_xfce doesn't respect xfce preferred file manager

2021-03-12 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Observed in google chrome:

1. download a file from somewhere
2. instead of opening it with a click, do "show in folder" from the downloaded
file menu

the file should be opened with the preferred file manager. My preferred
file manager is nautilus, even if I'm in xubuntu

thunar, which is xfce default file manager, is used istead.

I.e.: the setting for the preferred file manager isn't used

I get everything umounted with

$ sudo umount /media/nas.nfs/Documents/snapshot/

I must be root: from nautilus the eject button says "operation not
permitted", but why? nautilus mounted it, and it cannot umount it!

[Bug 1885378] [NEW] nautillus mounts nfs shares when searching

2020-06-27 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

I have a nas running readynas 6, I'm mounting on my pc its nfs shares,
in fstab they are like

nas:/data/Documents /media/nas.nfs/Documents nfs4
async,user,rw,auto,user 0 2

readynas uses the snapshot folder in its /data/Documents folder in order
to save the daily backups

when /media/nas.nfs/Documents is mounted, if I perform a nautilus search
in that folder I get all the /media/nas.nfs/Documents/snapshot and
/media/nas.nfs/Documents/snapshot/* folders mounted.

Once mounted I cannot umount them any more, nor with sudo.

[Bug 1795144]

2018-11-08 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
The bug happens when in the thunar-volman GUI, "Browse removable media
when inserted" is enabled.

Too, on the (applications menu) > Settings Manager > Preferred
Applications > Utilities tab, "File Manager" is set to something other
than Thunar. (I selected Nautilus.)

When a removable volume is inserted, and then XFCE auto-mounts & auto-
browses the volume, the file manager used for the auto-browse is always
Thunar, instead of what the user selected.

Since xfce permits to select different file managers besides the
standard one, thunar, a drop down list should be presented in thunar-
volman in order to permit the user to manage the volumes with their
preferred file manager

[Bug 1787893] [NEW] xenial -> bionic upgrade: package python3-aptdaemon.pkcompat prevents normal ending

2018-08-20 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from xenial to bionic when the system prompted me with the
possibility to do it.

Apparently the upgrade process came to a normal end, but something in
the ui were not ok.

Finally, trying to "apt upgrade", I got a message saying that the
package python3-aptdaemon.pkcompat conflicted with other (I don't
remember what package)

After removing python3-aptdaemon.pkcompat, apt upgrade could upgrade
1000+ packages

[Bug 1249304] [NEW] network-manager doesn't permit two cable connections with different IPV4 method

2013-11-08 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

I have a cable connection with fixed IP and nm manages it perfectly.

If I disconnect it and connect my smartphone with tethering, nm show the
2 cable connections, but will manage the usb connection with the same
static IP of my ethernet cable connection. In order to have the usb
connection working I must change the IPV4 method of usb connection to
DHCP.

But when I disconnect the usb connection, I find that the ethernet
connection has become a DHCP one, and the static IP I had is lost!

That's quite annoying, and impides a non-geek user to use usb tethering
if he/she has a static IP ethernet connection

[Bug 1237955] [NEW] update-manager should forewarn about reboot needed

2013-10-10 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

update-manager should be aware if after the suggeste upgrade the system
need reboot, and warn the user so that he/she can decide when to upgrade
the system.

Actually the user may be in such a work that a reboot isn't recommended.
Realizing that a reboot is needed after the upgrade has completed and
not being able to make it may make difficult keep working.

I'm proposing that update-manager:
- inform the user that the upgrade will bring the need to reboot
- separate the packages that will be responsible for the upgrade need and offer
the possibility to upgrade only those that doesn't bring the need to upgrade

Thank you!

[Bug 1174203] [NEW] libreoffice not getting focus if closed with formatting window open

2013-04-29 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

I don't know if it's a problem in libreoffice or a gnome one.

reproduce it:
- in libreoffice, open the styles and formatting window
- close libreoffice
- open nautilus/files, and go to a folder where you have a odt file

[Bug 1174203] Re: libreoffice not getting focus if closed with formatting window open

2013-04-29 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Actually the bug triggers these ways too:

- run libreoffice (w/o arguments) from terminal and then, from LO, begin
a new document

- run libreoffice from terminal with an odt doc as argument

[Bug 1172285] [NEW] moving bookmark in file select dialog doesn't behaves correctly

2013-04-24 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Reproduce it:

- open file selector in firefox/geany/libreoffice/ecc.
- create 4 bookmarks if you haven't any
- in the left pane, move a bookmark downward/upward: you'll see the marker, but
when you release the bookmark it doesn't move where the marker showed

[Bug 1163141] [NEW] isc-dhcp server not starting at boot

2013-04-02 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

I installed isc-dhcp-server and started it manually.

After reboot the server didn't start.

Checking the syslog

Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd:
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd: No subnet declaration for eth0 (no IPv4 addresses).
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd: ** Ignoring requests on eth0. If this is not what
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd:you want, please write a subnet declaration
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd:in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd:to which interface eth0 is attached. **
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd:
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd:
Apr 2 07:57:18 paolo dhcpd: Not configured to listen on any interfaces!

Actually etho will be 192.168.0.3, but I suppose that network-manager
hasn't activated it yet.

I suppose that upstart isc-dhcp-server entry should check interface
activation before starting the server.

do-release-upgrade makes various retries, but cannot download these

Actually the installation doesn't come to an end and the system is

However, those packages are in the ubuntu repositories.

I have apt-cacher installed and running.

[Bug 748310] [NEW] big print jobs dying without printing

2011-04-02 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

If I have a document with various images and I print it in booklet mode
in many copies, the printing process ends without any print beeing
produced.

There is a number of copies which, if I keep below it all goes right, if
I go above it the print doesn't happen.

The bug was present in openoffice 3.x and in libreoffice 3.x too.

I'm using the driver Ricoh Aficio MP 2550 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6

Tipically, a 4 pages A5 document with text and about 7/8 b/w images,
printed in A4 landscape booklet mode, can be printed in 500 copies, and
in print manager it shows a 150MB spool file , but it cannot in 900
copies (300MB). I have 2GB ram.

The bigger the images, the lower the critical number of copies.

I suppose that the bigger the print file, the lower the critical number
of copies.

[Bug 740116] [NEW] sgv thumbnail not updated on desktop

2011-03-22 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a svg on my desktop, and its thumbnail appears the right way.

I modify it with inkscape, but after closing inkscape the thumbnail
still shows the svg as it was before being modified.

In order to get it updated I had to open nautilus and go to the desktop:
then the thumbnail on the desktop was updated.

[Bug 731250] [NEW] geany changing user:group on remote files

2011-03-08 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: geany

I'm experiencing the bug this way:

- I have a debian squeeze server, and with nautilus I mount the remote
filesystem as user root on the server
- In nautilus, I open a www-data:www-data owned file on the server with geany
- I modify it with geany, and I save it

Result: the file is root:root owned!

[Bug 709166] [NEW] purging openoffice should remove files associations

2011-01-28 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

In order to install libreoffice, I completely removed openoffice:

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge openoffice*.*

unfortunatly, file types that were assigned to openoffice.org weren't

I connect the camera to the pc with the usb cable, and then I issue:

[Bug 677242] Re: cannot read big file on sdhc card in camera

2010-11-19 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
gphoto2://[usb:001,010] is the position of the camera in gnome file
system, I don't know how I can access it from the command line. So I
don't know how I can copy it with cp.

From nautilus, looking for file permissions, it says unable to
determine file permissions.

If I umount the camera, gphoto2 -P downloads the file

from nautilus, double clicking on a 163MB file opens it with video
player.

It happens with sdhc and with sd cards

[Bug 677242] [NEW] cannot read big file on sdhc card in camera

2010-11-18 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

I have a 1.5GB video on my 4GB sdhc card, and it's in the camera.

Connecting the camera to the pc via usb cable I get the camera
mounted.

However, when I go to the card and see the video file, I cannot copy it
anywhere: hitting ctl-c and then ctl-v in another directory I get a
progress bar windows which lasts a long time saying copying 0GB of
1.5GB, and it never copies it.

However, If I umount the camera and issue gphoto2 -P, the file is
downloaded without any problem.

[Bug 675306] [NEW] user gets confused with windows

2010-11-14 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I'm referring to compiz feature represented by
http://www.tectonic.co.za/wordpress/wp-
content/uploads/2008/01/shiftkey.png

I have used it for about one week, but I still get confused when using
it.

More precisely, when I'm rotating among the windows (with alt-tab) I lack some
information that is essential in order to a friendly user experience:
- I should be said how many open windows I have on my workspace. It could be
that I have 2 windows, but during windows rotation I haven't any way to realize
it; in the case of the 2 windows, I'm deceived by the fact that I actually see
3 reduced windows on the screen.
- I should be warned if, performing the rotation, I'm arriving on the window I
started from

I think this two issues should be resolved to give the user friendlyness

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

I was using maverick live cd gparted in order to expand a partition on a

[Bug 666725] [NEW] nauilus cannot mount canon SX120 IS

2010-10-26 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gphoto2

Neither in lucid nor in maverick my canon sx120 IS is properly mounted.

The camera is detected by usb system (other lines outputted by lsusb not
reported):

$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 016: ID 04a9:31e0 Canon, Inc.

although apparently it isn't known with its model name.

But gphoto sees the camera, although it doesn't know it:

$ gphoto2 --auto-detect
ModelloPorta

but nautilus (?) doesn't automount it as it automounts other cameras

[Bug 644348] Re: firefox doesn't permit to load a file on a mounted partition

2010-09-24 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Reproduce it this way:

1. With nautilus, mount a remote partition, so that you have it shown in the
resources left pane
2. open firefox on
http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Uploaduselang=ownwork
3. In the source file box click on browse: you'll be presented the upload
file window

Now, in the upload file window you should see the mounted partition to,
but you don't.

than the one that I selected in previous session.

Possibly this is still https://bugs.launchpad.net/metacity/+bug/391070

[Bug 501832] [NEW] sync-ui doesn't trasmit correct timezone info to funambol server

2009-12-30 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: syncevolution

I have a my.funambol.com account, I use it in order to sync my
evolution with my smartphone.

I'm using timezone GMT+1 (Rome).

The funambol account is set with this timezone too.

If I enter a new appointment in evolution, when sync-ui syncronizes the
calendar with funambol, on the funambol server the appointment is
recorded with GMT+2

For example: in evolution I set an appointment at 9.00pm. On the
funambol server I find it's at 10 p.m.

Apparently, sync-ui transmit the time information without specifying
it's in GMT+1 timezone.

2009-12-25 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Reproduce it:

- open nautilus
