messed up, most of the settings remained to work as they did previously.
The only things I had to install again were Opera (internet browser),
Nvidia drivers and there were some minor tweaks for the UI itself - I am
now using Unity
My system is fully configured from 8.04 for my work (script, db, ide,
workspace, packages) and think to reinstall everything from scratch is a
scary thought!!

I am still having the issue with shutdown/reboot/logout. I upgraded from
11.04 to 11.10 and the menu buttons still do not work. I am able to use
init/shutdown -r or -h now from the console. I am using a Dell 1545 N
and I loaded the KDE desktop on top of Lubuntu and changed from LXDE to

Further testing with a fresh Maverick install to an 8G stick and
updated, displayed the improper shutdown problem -- it's as if the usb
gets turned off before the filesystem is dismounted, leaving it dirty
and in need of checking next boot. Looks like Lucid is the last release
