[ovirt-users] virtual Disk

2015-12-21 Thread Taste-Of-IT

Hello,
i testing oVirt 3.6 as Self-Hosted-Engine and create a virtual machine.
Now i want to change the size of the disk and found the possibilities to
change the size of the disk and a field to grow the disk. In ovirt
manual it is descripted to change the value of the grow field. My
question is what is the difference and what are the results of that. E.g
what happend if i only change the disk size from 8 to 10? is it the same
like i change the grow size from 0 to 2?

thx for technical explanation.

Thanks! I didn't think it'd be that easy when I saw the upgrade button.

You can of course automate that through scripting using the API, CLI or

What about the engine itself? There is a bug in 3.6.0 where it does not
show up in the oVirt cluster.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for your response.

VDSM was the first problem when installing oVirt 3.6 on CentOS, it couldn't
find the package and while browsing through the repos I couldn't find it
either. So that was the first issue.. I tried compiling vdsm myself which
didn't work either and I ended up using the VDSM package under the 3.5 release.
Any idea how to tackle this?

If I have the time I'll try to reinstall 3.6 and note all the issues I find on

Would you provide more information (logs, screenshots) about the pains of
installing ovirt-3.6? These days, most of the development effort is focused on
stabilizing 3.6. No further releases of ovirt-3.5.z are expected (up to

ovirtmgmt should have been automatically added on top of the interface that has
the IP used to add the host to Engine.

Could you share your engine.log and {super,}vdsm.log from that time to

Similarly, please share your ifcfg files prior to adding ovirtmgmt, and the

Re: [ovirt-users] network configuration oVirt 3.5

2015-12-21 Thread Kristof VAN DEN EYNDEN
Hey Dan,

I reïnstalled the 3.6 on CentOS 7 (this was the issue as vdsm is no longre
build for 6.7).
It's a fresh install of CentOs, only configured the adapter for a static IP and
then the install of the oVirt Node.
Installation goes well until following errors popup:

Dec 21, 2015 3:42:45 PM
Host KVM1 installation failed. Failed to configure management network on the
host.

Dec 21, 2015 3:42:45 PM
Failed to configure management network on host KVM1 due to setup networks
failure.

Dec 21, 2015 3:42:45 PM
VDSM KVM1 command failed: connectivity check failed

I included both vdsm.log & supervdsm.log

---

I did a reboot, the ovirtmgmt was not linked to the adapter (enp3s0). Tried to
link it manually which worked without hassle...

So now everything seems OK. I'll test further with the 3.6 now and hope it all
goes like this now

The answerfile is expected to be found in

It's written there upon a successful completion of deploy.

[ovirt-users] Hosted Engine crash - state = EngineUp-EngineUpBadHealth

2015-12-21 Thread Will Dennis
OK, another problem :(

I was having the same problem with my second oVirt host that I had with my
first one, where when I ran “hosted-engine —deploy” on it, after it completed
successfully, then I was experiencing a ~50sec lag when SSH’ing into the node…

vpnp71:~ will$ time ssh root@ovirt-node-02 uptime
 19:36:06 up 4 days, 8:31, 0 users, load average: 0.68, 0.70, 0.67

real 0m50.540s
user 0m0.025s
sys 0m0.008s

So, in the oVirt web admin console, I put the "ovirt-node-02” node into
Maintenance mode, then SSH’d to the server and rebooted it. Sure enough, after
the server came back up, SSH was fine (no delay), which again was the same
experience I had had with the first oVirt host. So, I went back to the web
console, and choose the “Confirm host has been rebooted” option, which I
thought would be the right action to take after a reboot. The system opened a
dialog box with a spinner, which never stopped spinning… So finally, I closed
the dialog box with the upper right (X) symbol, and then for this same host
choose “Activate” from the menu. It was then I noticed I had recieved a state
transition email notifying me that "EngineUp-EngineUpBadHealth” and sure
enough, the web UI was then unresponsive. I checked on the first oVirt host,
the VM with the name “HostedEngine” is still running, but obviously isn’t
working…

So, looks like I need to restart the HostedEngine VM or take whatever action is
needed to return oVirt to operation… Hate to keep asking this question, but
what’s the correct action at this point?

Thanks, again,
Will

Support for running engine and gluster on same hosts (hyperconverged

You can of course automate that through scripting using the API, CLI or

What about the engine itself? There is a bug in 3.6.0 where it does not

Engine upgrades are done from outside, manually via yum and Engine-setup.

Absolutely, I suggest you to start checking for
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/answers.conf
on the first host.
If the file is not here please check the setup logs on the first to ensure
that it successful completed.

lacp_rate=0 ('slow') is the default of the bonding module in mode=4, and
we do not change that (even though we could).

Please open an RFE, citing the articles that recomend the usage of
faster rate. Until then - configure Engine's custom bond option to your likings.

I think that Gianluca is referring to the hosted-engine storage domain.
On 3.6.0 that storage domain is not attached to any storage pool but HA
agent is still able to start the engine VM as expected.
With 3.6.1 the engine, when up, will auto-import the hosted-engine storage
domain attaching it to its datacenter storage pool but it will do that if
and only if the datacenter is up but a datacenter to be requires at least
one valid ad active storage domain so the import process is not triggered
if you don't have any valid storage domain. It's not really an issue cause
in real world you have at least one storage domain in your datacenter and
so it's perfectly fine to postpone till that.

Still seeing the hosted-engine storage domain in maintenance after the
import is instead a real issue:

[ovirt-users] Refresh Host Devices

2015-12-21 Thread ovirt

Hi list,

how can I refresh the host devices (usb) in the frontend?
"Refresh Capabilities" does not work for me.

I want to attach a usb device to a VM but I can't see the device in the
frontend.

# lsub is showing the device.

Engine upgrades are done from outside, manually via yum and Engine-setup.

Not sure what bug you are referring to.

[ovirt-users] Changing migration_max_bandwidth?

2015-12-21 Thread gflwqs gflwqs
Hi list,
Since i have a dedicated live migration network is there a problem to
change migration_max_bandwidth to 128 MiBps for a 1Gb network?

I don't see any problem with the network getting saturated?

Thanks!

Re: [ovirt-users] Migration of VM fails Failed in 'DestroyVDS' method Message: VDSM command failed: Virtual machine does not exist

2015-12-21 Thread Tomas Jelinek
Hey Johann,

I think this is not an actual bug but a general issue with the migration
convergence + a general problem with reported error messages
during migrations (both are being worked on and targeted to 4.0).

In your particular case the root cause seems like this from logs:
"The migration took 40 seconds which is exceeding the configured maximum time
for migrations of 32 s
econds. The migration will be aborted."

So I'd say the VM was able to trash the memory faster than being moved to
destination and after 40s it was aborted.
What you can do is to go to the vdsm.conf on each host and tweak migration
progress timeout, migration bandwidth (if you have capacity for more than 32
MBps on the migration network per VM) and maybe max migration downtime (the
time how long the VM can be paused at the end of migration).

Also from inside of the guest you can try to reduce the load if possible so it
will not trash the memory so fast...

hope some of this helps,
Tomas

Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot retrieve answer file from 1st HE host when setting up 2nd host

2015-12-21 Thread Will Dennis
OK, that did the trick... 2nd host is joined.

However, when I went to the 3rd host and did the setup, I selected 'glusterfs'
and gave the path of the engine volume, it came back and incorrectly identified
it as the first host, instead of an additional host... How does setup determine
that? I confirmed that on this 3rd host that the engine volume is available and
has the GUID subfolder of the hosted engine...

If there was an error in the close-up it was not really that successfully :-)

So should I copy the correct answers log from
/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup to /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/answers.conf and
try the setup again on the second host?

Yes, that should do the trick

The answerfile is expected to be found in
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/answers.conf .
It's written there upon a successful completion of deploy.

Absolutely, I suggest you to start checking for
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/answers.conf on the first host.
If the file is not here please check the setup logs on the first to ensure that
it successful completed.

It's also always written to /var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/answers/ .

You can also copy it by yourself to somefile and run:

hosted-engine --deploy --config-append=somefile

But I'd invest some time understanding why scp fails. Might be bad
name resolution?

Hi,

I updated the initial WIP patch and I think it should work if you follow the
instructions in the new patch [2]. Feel free to give it a whirl and give me
feedback.

Thanks, I gave my contribute inside the bugzilla.
I personally felt this behavior could potentially break many oVirt and
possibly RHEV installations based on the internal profile and your action
seems to confirm it.
As a user I disagree with Martin point in 3. as I'm usually inclined to
read the docs but not all the READMEs provided by any single package in the
system. I didn't find a clear reference to this step inside the oVirt web
documentation, but I could be wrong. I rememebr about it only when I played
with FreeIPA authentication in oVirt, but not in internal usage.
But if this problem can become an opportunity to make both docs and users
better entities it's not a problem for me...

[ovirt-users] New oVirt Node releases?

2015-12-21 Thread Kevin Hung

Hello,

I have noticed that there have not been any official releases of oVirt
Node since 3.5.2 [1]. I have tried looking through the Users and the
Announce mailing lists for any information regarding the lack of
releases, but I was not able to find anything from the past few months.
The official documentation for oVirt seems to indicate that oVirt Node
is still supported.

Are there just build problems preventing oVirt Node from being released?
Or are we supposed to use either the latest Jenkins build or our own
build [2] if we wish to deploy oVirt Node?
