[videoblogging] poke the possum

2006-05-15 Thread Adrian Miles

hi all

sorry for subject, that's an Australianism. Just thought I'd add fuel
to recent fire round here: our Prime Minister is currently visited Mr
Shrub in the white house. Australian flag apparently flying outside.
Vox pops asking people what flag do they think it is. Now, I'd be
surprised if anyone gets it, but one guy Is it the Canadian flag?.
Now, um, I'm sure they really asked a 100 to get that one
quintessential moment, but really.

What exactly do you mean by a busines vlog? I'm pretty sure mine isn't, but curious as to what sort of thing you're looking for.I've run across several sites purporting to tell people how to use vlogs in their business and/or offering to host such (
e.g. http://www.turnhere.com/), but there may not be much intersect between those folks and the membership of this lists - we're all artists, doncha know. grin

Re: [videoblogging] poke the possum

2006-05-15 Thread Jan

I suspect if you're right that they polled 100 to get that quintessential
moment, there must be something to be gained by the rest of the world
imagining us totally idiotic and supportive of what our government is doing
to control the rest of the world's natural resources and cultures.

On second thought, I suspect the governments and media of the rest of the
world have things to gain, too, in terms of how our perception is being
spun. Some parts of human nature celebrate kicking the formerly big dog when
it's down.

As the main stream media gets better and better at pushing public opinion,
you Europeans will have to be as vigilant as we to read between the lines.

Either way, it's a perception the underlying facts of which only decades can
hope to change as our educational system has gone to the dogs starting with
the graduating class of 1972. That's almost 35 years of kids graduating high
school not knowing how to think and susceptible to being pushed with the
wind to think and do anything the MSM desires. Therein is one root cause of
our current problem.

I'm begging all of you to stop bashing and reacting to bashing and help
those of us with means and motivation figure out what to DO to turn this
shit around. For one thing, we need viral videos / advertisements that
educate folks about what's really going on and lead them to places where
they can find information about action to take. We've got to get organized
and formulate a plan.

That said, left to its own accord, this will straighten itself out when the
US is totally broke and unable to maintain military control of enough of the
emerging world's resources to maintain our current waste, and nobody will
buy our B-rated Treasury Bonds.

Then you can all drink a pint to how shitty it is over here, folks shooting
each other for food and all. By then, we'll have - as individuals - learned
to conserve and walk to the fish and chips store where we'll look in the
window like Dickensian kids, drooling.

The People verses the golden valley---This land is your land, this land is my landFrom California, to the New York Island
>From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream watersThis land was made for you and meAs I was walking a ribbon of highwayI saw above me an endless skywayI saw below me a golden valleyThis land was made for you and me
ChorusI've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footstepsTo the sparkling sands of her diamond desertsAnd all around me a voice was soundingThis land was made for you and meChorus
The sun comes shining as I was strollingThe wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rollingThe fog was lifting a voice come chantingThis land was made for you and meChorusAs I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'But on the other side it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me!ChorusIn the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steepleNear the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'If this land's still made for you and me.

would suggest contacting your local SPCA, though--as a no-kill organization,
they would find foster homes for them until final homes can be found. Good

Sounds like a great trip! Belfast looks like a fascinating place... I
passed through town in November '91 going from Scotland en route to a
U2 record release party in Dublin; security was so tight we weren't
even able to get off the bus. Now that the Troubles are generally a
thing of the past I'm sure it would be a really interesting city to
visit...

[videoblogging] Current Contradiction

2006-05-15 Thread Josh Wolf

Hey everyone, Current TV is currently working with L'Oreal, a
cosmetics company, to solicit videomakers to profile women whom they
know who are women of worth. (http://www.current.tv/studio/create/
vcam_loreal_wow.html) - I'm curious how the vidoblogging community
feels about an ad campagin sponsored by a cosmetics company to
profile women who are working to improve the world they live in?

Obviously a series of PSA's giving these women credit for the work
they are doing would be a good thing, but, is the fact that this
thing is being underwritten by a cosmetics company and considered an
advertisement by Current diminish the redeeming quality the project
might otherwise have?

What do you think?

Josh

Re: [videoblogging] Current Contradiction

2006-05-15 Thread Jan

Hehehe - heroic by association. Great old trick. Works.

Worked on a documentary years ago - sponsored by L'Oreal I think - wherein
we did the same kinda thing but feature-length. It was called I Am
Beautiful and featured a Native American woman with AIDS who'd adopted a
bunch of orphaned kids and a woman of color with a bunch of kids who was
going back to college to improve her life. Like that, on and on with about 8
women.

Pure propaganda and lots of hyperbole.

Were the thing truthful, I think, well, even with its exaggerations of the
truth, it DID feature a lot of women who were doing great things.

Short answer: I don't know, Josh, whether the up side outweighs the
propaganda, particularly if the vloggers and women in question aren't given
financial support from L'Oreal for their efforts. PSA's? Interesting. Will
follow this with interest.

XO,
Jan

Subject: [videoblogging] Current Contradiction

 Josh

Re: [videoblogging] Re: What is Your Definition of TV

2006-05-15 Thread Michael Sullivan

yeah, i'd say this is in tune with my head.a few good shows here and therebut i was watching 90% HBO (though there season scheduling is pisses me off).the last show i was hooked on outside of HBO was X-Files.
besides watching every single episode of six feet under, i think 'The Wire' is one of the best shows i've seen in a while. worth back watching on DVD if anyone hasnt seen it.was into West Wing sporatically and watched the finale last night.
my in-laws were making fun of it the whole time because nothing happened :oi think the purpose of my asking this question is to clarify a bit of the debates around TV and Videoblogs. TV the content TV the business TV the technology etc...
The fear of TV contaminating the vlogosphere... stems from the content and business aspects. I believe people should talk about it and i dont want any more bad content than anyone else (although bad and good content is based on individual opinions as we see in this thread). I certainly dont want the vlogosphere to be less free and controlled as TV is. This latter issue is much more worthy of my focus... because nothing can be done about the content issue beyond better attention filters. Trying to prevent content from pouring in is the wrong approach... wrong in more than one way.
The issue of controlling entities... that is a real serious concern. that is where we should all be focusing our attention. Not... - thats not a vlog, this is a vlog no its not yes it is its a show its a vlog its a vodcast now a videoblog - blah blah.
i am all for being the mediums police but not at all interested in policing peoples content. i hope that more people see it this way one day.sullOn 5/14/06,

Sorry - didn't mean to equate the two, just the tactics. L'Oreal would probably like draw attention away from stuff like this, http://www.askcarla.com/answers.asp?QuestionandanswerID=458
, by talking about women doing great things that have nothing to do with their company. It's a well known tactic which has been used by many companies including tobacco companies.-Verdi

[videoblogging] Re: Current Contradiction

2006-05-15 Thread Susan

Personally, (and this is my very own opinion), any company involved in
a campaign to show women of worth should also be showing that beauty
is within, and that therefore you don't have to put on a pound (or
even a single drop) of makeup to be beautiful... but then, they would
be going against selling their own products. ;)

Re: [videoblogging] Re: What is Your Definition of TV

2006-05-15 Thread Anne Walk

hi sull,as you say, no one can control the direction of content (that may change shortly and i'm curious to see how discussions will reflect that change). there is a difference in my mind between controlling the direction (impossible, currently) and critiquing it. no one that i know of is trying to prevent anything.
On 5/15/06, Michael Sullivan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

yeah, i'd say this is in tune with my head.a few good shows here and therebut i was watching 90% HBO (though there season scheduling is pisses me off).the last show i was hooked on outside of HBO was X-Files.
besides watching every single episode of six feet under, i think 'The Wire' is one of the best shows i've seen in a while. worth back watching on DVD if anyone hasnt seen it.was into West Wing sporatically and watched the finale last night.
my in-laws were making fun of it the whole time because nothing happened :oi think the purpose of my asking this question is to clarify a bit of the debates around TV and Videoblogs.
Not... - thats not a vlog, this is a vlog no its not yes it is its a show its a vlog its a vodcast now a videoblog - blah blah.
i am all for being the mediums police but not at all interested in policing peoples content. i hope that more people see it this way one day.sull

Re: [videoblogging] Current Contradiction

2006-05-15 Thread Mike Hudack

Personally, I'm thrilled by BP's newfound religion. I mean, some will say that they still operate polluting businesses (from petrochemicals on through). That's true. But they've also acknowledged the existence of global warming and are pouring resources into sustainable and relatively green energy projects.
The commercials are doubly good. They remind people of their environmental impact and they help demonstrate that a major company can make a switch like this and profit from it (from good PR, et cetera).

[videoblogging] Re: Copyright radical

2006-05-15 Thread wtrainbow

Hello Charles,

I'm not sure what your point is. You can certainly make the argument that copyright law is
morally wrong, I don't agree it is, but even if you and others believe it is so what.

Are you advocating violating copyright law as some sort of protest?

The fact is that there are plenty of laws that people would consider morally wrong yet we

I think current copyright law has a lot of problems but I'm not convinced that the concept

[videoblogging] Re: Current Contradiction

2006-05-15 Thread francisco_daum

Someone should give that a shot and profile a woman who doesn't use
any make up (ha, ha- Marie Curie, Dian Fossie, Mother Teresa). Anyhow
it should not be a problem finding anyone who does deserve a profile
and uses make-up. I think make-up is just something you can do very
little with. I wouldn't do it. It feels fake. I think this would
downplay one's important achievements and not forward one's issues.

critiquing is definately needed and i am glad that you, devlon and many others do this regularly. i think some have linguistically tried to prevent certain types of content from sharing this space. arguments like rocketboom is not a vlog come to mind.
it starts with interpretive language and tends to evolve into arguments over content.in the context of videoblogging people have sad things like 'this is not what this is about'when responding to videos that are not fitting into certain idealogies and its been common to not call such a 'channel' a vlog because of its content and instead just call it internet TV shows in order to somehow preserve 'vlog' as a special medium for better content that does not resembled TV.
so, yeah, its all linguistic linguine at the end of the day.no one that i know of is trying to prevent anything.

Hi Simon ::

I subscribed via iTunes, downloaded #4, then went to update the ipod, but it did not
update. I tried to manually drag it over, as well, and the ipod still wouldn't except it. So
something must be slightly off. I checked how you encoded it and looked correct to me, as
far as I know of... however, I do not export my .mov videos as h.264.

Not sure, but wanted to let you know my experience!

[videoblogging] Re: Current Contradiction

2006-05-15 Thread francisco_daum

I think both ad campaigns can be equally deceptive. BP Petroleum,
using the fresh, green, nature- friendly imagery can lull the
consumer into thinking emissions are no problem.

L'Oreal's ad campaign can downplay the profiled woman's important
achievements. It can obfuscate the woman's actual stand and not
forward her issues.

So instead of really caring for the environment or human rights- you
could be just sold something you can do with less or without.

Oil comapnies should give money to save rainforests or something that
help prevent global warming. That would really be investing in the
future. The green gas pumps don't fool me.

I think L'Oreal should just take the money and give it to a women's
scholarship fund or something because that would help more and earn
more respect from women.

so, yeah, its all linguistic linguine at the end of the day.

right...not a true effort. no organized activity around the stopping of bad content.but plenty of discusouse... i dont know, maybe talk is cheap so therefore no one is actually trying to prevent anything i guess it depends on how you look at the chatter.

No matter how far they go, cynics can always complain that they should

legally bound to increase profits for the stockholders (criticizing

there are plenty of oil companies that are still doing things the old

Re: [videoblogging] I'm baaaack! Business Vlogs

2006-05-15 Thread Christopher Bergeron

I'm in the process of setting up a Business Vlog
although I haven't done a video yet. I've got a few
videos planned but I've been extra busy.

My first video was about the Town's Recycling program
but unfortunatly the town pulled the program when some
residents were... Abusing the freedom of the system.

Although my next set of advertizing is already done
and will be going out soon and it does direct people
to visit my website and check out some videos so I
need to get of my rear and get working.

Vlogging and Business can indeed go hand in hand, from
tutorials, to advertizing, to business updates. Video
is such a great medium and the internet is such a
great distribuition method.

I'm in Real Estate and I can't think of a better way
to answer real estate questions, do tutorials, show
the area, show specific properties. I'm working on a
set of Real Estate Tutorials now.. How to get your
house sold in this new market. I think people will
enjoy them, and more importantly it will hopefully
make people see me as more of an expert as the next
guy.

I'll post to the group when I get my website
completed.

Right now it's online in an incomplete state and
thanks to some area flooding it's gettings some
attention on the backend today.

Although you never did mention what business you're in
and how you plan on using vlogging in your business?

Anyway, it was hardly a history of copyright. A text that doesn't mention
the Berne convention can hardly be called the history of copyright (even
though the author of the above piece is undoubtedly smart, he hasn't
written a history of copyright).

Modern copyright begins with the Berne Convention, the first international
convention of copyright. Since WTO pretty much requires you to sign the
ratrify the treaty if you want to be a member almost all countries have
signed (Wikipedia says 160 signatories). Wikipedia has the brief version:
URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berne_Convention

Cliff notes:

 - It was created in 1886.
 - Instigated by Victor Hugo (an artist, not a cabal of coprporations)
 - Carries with it a lot from French copyright law (which is a good thing)
 - It took the USA 104 years to get their act together and sign on (due to
the French influence)
 - It is the cause of some very good changes to the US copyright system
(automatic protection and extended moral rights)
 - US copyright is still messed up on certain points (making statutory
damages available only to registered works is fucking stupid)

Sounds great Chris! There are so many business opportunities in the
vlogging world. Only problem is the return on investment...

Financially speaking, the cost of video production and hosting would
hopefully be offset (and exceeded) by the revenue it generates
(adverstising or the purchase of a product/service).

Good luck and be sure to post your site when you get the vids up.

[videoblogging] Re: I'm baaaack! Business Vlogs

2006-05-15 Thread LeanBackVids.com

Although it is a very unique industry, the skateboard shoe
manufacturers have all gotten into iTunes video podcasting...

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewTopAlbums?subgenreId=1316id=33

This was probably a dream come true for them... These companies pay
loads of money to be a part of the numerous DVDs that are released
every year. In addition, they already have pro athletes and tons of
footage to pull from. Question is - does it really help them sell
more shoes? Probably yes.

I just helped Hyperlite (wakeboarding manufacturer) put out their
video podcast the other day and it is already #66 on the Top 100
list. Not sure if Ridertech will be able to hang on though (#93).

Sad part is that the editors of the iTunes directory have way too much
power... they have those featured topics on the podcast frontpage and
if you get listed there it will make a huge difference. Once you're
on the Top whatever list, it then starts promoting itself. Meaning
more people just subscribe to what is popular. All this starts from
(probably) a single iTMS editor.

Not sure that relates directly to the topic at hand, but it was on my
mind.

I haven't seen the BP commercials, so I can't comment on those, but I'm
not sure that this sort of thing isn't actually worse than the PSAs

reputation is in the shitter, maybe this will help a bit. It comes
across as trying to save face.

L'Oreal on the other hand doesn't have a reputation for killing
thousands of people each year with their products. This isn't about
saving face, it's about a new form of promotion, and given that it is a
cosmetics company, whose entire business is focused on making women
feel as if they need lipstick and rouge to appear attractive, it seems
a bit puzzling to link real work done by women with their products.

Someone asked about compensation for this project, Current TV will pay
$1000 for any V-Cam piece they use; they also offer other rates for use
of the piece in other mediums by the advertiser.

In what world was that brief? :o)

Re: [videoblogging] Re: need help testing videos on an ipod

2006-05-15 Thread Michael Verdi

Your video is a .mov compressed with the H264 codec. You used to be able to export to .mp4 and select H.264 as the codec using the baseline profile. Then you could save as a .mov and these would transfer to the iPod. Some time this winter (with an iPod software or iTunes update?) Apple got rid of that feature.
Now the only way to use H.264 as your codec and have it play on the iPod is to use the Export for iPod feature. The problem with this is that if you are working with DV video it will make your finished video squished. See the begining of our 3ivx tutoral at freevlog for a comparison -
http://freevlog.org/index.php/2006/04/26/443/I guess the workaround would be to compress it at a high bit rate, making it 320 X 240 first and then use the export for iPod feature.
Personally, I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather just use 3ivx.Anyway, that's the long explanation of why your video won't transfer to the iPod.-VerdiOn 5/15/06,

[videoblogging] Boston, May 17: Apocalypse Soon for Public Media?

2006-05-15 Thread Andy Carvin

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be participating in this event here in Boston this
Wednesday night; all of you are invited to participate in person or
online. -andy

Apocalypse Soon for Public Media?
A Community Discussion
http://tacticalmedia.blogspot.com

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006
6:30-8:30 p.m.

Encuentro 5
33 Harrison Ave., 5th Floor
Boston, MA 02111
http://www.encuentro5.org/
corner of Harrison and Beach St. in Chinatown
three blocks from Boston Common
For more information, contact Jason Pramas at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
__

The Community Media and Technology Program at the UMass Boston College
of Public and Community Service, The Tactical Media Project, and
Massachusetts Global Action are presenting a communications policy
discussion and community meeting.

Public media and the Internet are in deep trouble. We are currently
seeing the emergence of the communications and media systems we will
live with for the next several decades. And, as we write, there are
proposals in Congress that dramatically threaten the public interest,
and the potential for innovation and media justice in those emerging
systems, in the US and around the world.

At stake are:

* local control of our communications infrastructure,
* the survival of the Internet as an open and affordable communications
network [a.k.a. net neutrality],
* maintaining and expanding public access to cable and other media
production and distribution resources,
* our communications rights to receive and create media,
* the democratic and equitable provision of telecommunications access to
low income communities and communities of color,
* the future of public service media,
* the ability of local government to assure the communications
infrastructure is present to support progressive economic development.

The current debate in Congress is symptomatic of a much larger surge of
social changes arising from global economic and technological shifts in
communications sectors. It is no accident that just when we are seeing
the media landscape tilting in the direction of communications rights,
many-to-many communications, and the hope for media justice glimmering
somewhere on the horizon, powerful commercial and private political
interests are moving to secure the communications future for themselves.
Now we are hearing about the roll back of public access to cable,
slashed funding and political chicanery for public service broadcasting,
privatizing the Internet, fast information lanes for the wealthy, and
slow lanes for the rest of us. Hanging in the balance are crucial issues
of global communications rights, media justice, democratic political and
economic development around the world.

Please join our group of experienced communications and media
commentators, and a live and virtual audience, for a discussion of these
issues, and what can be done about the current proposals in Congress.

For more information, contact Jason Pramas at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [videoblogging] Copyright radical

2006-05-15 Thread WWWhatsup

There is a brief history of copyright on wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_copyright_law

In the USA public works have always, thanks mostly to Jefferson,
been deemed to be the public property, and the right to exploit
been a limited right granted by the people, while the french argument
was that they were the absolute property of the author (as I
understand it).

It seems the Berne Convention brought the French view into line with the
USA tradition, as much as the other way or am I wrong?

That article points out that the concept of copyright was
a result of the invention of the printing press, is it not possible
that it's supercedence by modern digital communications
also lead to similar fresh thinking?

In what world was that brief? :o)
Anyway, it was hardly a history of copyright. A text that doesn't mention
the Berne convention can hardly be called the history of copyright (even
though the author of the above piece is undoubtedly smart, he hasn't
written a history of copyright).

[videoblogging] Online Graphic Novel Starring Videoblogger

2006-05-15 Thread Josh Wolf
The year is 2011, and Jimmy Burns, a young anti-corporate blogger has
just seen his Williamsburg apartment blown to bits by yet another
terrorist attack on New York City. He’s recorded the gruesome scene on
his videoblog camera—footage Burns beams live to a freaked-out world
and that makes him an overnight media sensation. Exploited by his own
network (Global News: “Your home for 24-hour terror coverage”), enraged
by the terrorists, and determined to tell the American people the
truth, Burns takes off for Iraq to get the real story of a war that’s
been raging for more than eight years. Shooting War is written by
Anthony Lappé, illustrated by Dan Goldman.

[videoblogging] Video Podcast Sponsorship - Alive Well at 88SLIDE; iPod Nano Giveaway

2006-05-15 Thread eighty_eight_slide

Gang, group, bloggers, vloggers, gawkers, stalkers and friends...

VIDEO PODCAST SPONSORSHIP IS ALIVE WELL AT 88SLIDE.

In a throwback to the golden era of game shows, Dealhack.com is this week's single
sponsor of 88SLIDE. Like Geritol's sponsorship of Twenty One, and Sylvania's sponsorship
of Beat The Clock, both in the 1950's, 88SLIDE is pioneering alternative forms of
advertising and sponsorship in this new medium of video podcastsing.

As a result, we'll be giving away an iPod Nano THIS THURSDAY on 88SLIDE: The Daily One
Minute Trivia Challenge.

Here's a link to a press release about this special week of 88SLIDE content:

http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/5/prweb385459.htm

Thanks - and for those actively looking for sponsors - GO FOR IT! IT'S DOABLE!

If it's not your thing, that's great too!

In one sense I feel old viewing this. I know of graphic novels and
have seen flash animation stories before. Have I just witness the
birth of a hybrid form of storytelling?

Or to take it one future step beyond, if video was overlayed in the
background blending with graphic art what the heck do we call that art
form?

I feel old because I didn't anticipate this so soon. Can they sustain
it? How fast and far will the buzz take it and will M$M take note. How
do I know it isn't a sophisticated ad campaign? Does it matter?

What are the lessons we as vloggers can take from this experience?

Re: [videoblogging] Just before you start belitting me again.

2006-05-15 Thread Paul Knight

I am sure that, in viewing the video I made with enormous help from my partner in crime Paul Reynoldson, that there are a few of you living in the united states that regard this video as merely being one of a yanky bashing nature, trust me this wasn't meant to be the case, in understanding art one must see the video for what it really is, one a wake up call, two a state of play as what the world outside of the United States regards all Americans as.  I am still wondering if there are a few of you that still think it was a personal attack on the people of America, hell no Bro, this is how you are perceived around the world, it just took someone the whole of Saturday to come up with it.  But from the responses I have got from people this side of the Atlantic and beyond to this video, it is the truth.  I had gone well beyond the sexism thing and concentrated on the "bridging the gap" conventions that have been happening recently.  People of the United States, who are trying to bridge the gap with the rest of the world, you really need to start thinking about how you are going to address this.  Western Foreign policy dictates that if you are not with us, you are against us.  And being Arrogant and cocky to people from anywhere other than the US, even though it is meant in a joke is seen as in very bad taste. The rest of the world sees the only super power left trying to control everything from money to fuel.  Some may see your intentions as arrogant or intrusive.I am grateful to those dollars that funded my trip to Vloggercon, and I thank you with all of my heart and can't wait to be with you all, even those who don't know me.  I will be there at the conference and would like you to hear my piece.  I personally, don't see Americans as being that arrogant, I kinda understand the sense of humor. It is just the Corporations and Government, mind you as far as throwing stones when you have a glass house is concerned, the UK gov sucks too.  So if we are going to be the fighting force better than the media as we now it today, maybe we need to be a little more listening to other people's point of view, instead of trashing anything that isn't American or British for that matter.I am talking to those who find it amusing to practice wearing burkas with scarves and finding the definition of "Poking The Possum."To grow and be truly International, one must first attempt to try and not be funny, to take all the culture that there is out of the Earth and use it to the better advantage, baring in mind that there are Governments around the world that would be watching and would probably execute anyone that said anything against the governments concerned. These are dangerous times, and you wouldn't want to upset anybody.  But be not scared, embrace the whole world with open arms, but don't tell them that they are wrong because of ingrained American Rhetoric.Hope this clears thing up so that I can at least enjoy Vloggercon.PaulOn 16 May 2006, at 01:25, Josh Leo wrote: Paul, I am also curious about how many of us "american idiots" contributed to your flight to the states... [videoblogging] Tracking the conversations, etc.

2006-05-15 Thread Devlon

I don't think I've ever posted a real message to this group, so if I
breach any etiquette it's only out of ignorance :) ...but something
has been bugging me for a while now and I think if any group people
can address it, it would be this group.

We saw during videoblogging week 2006 how hard it was to keep track of
all the videos being posted with the 'videobloggingweek2006'
tag...granted we were relying on technorati which kind of left us
hanging.

Now with the 'ism' conversations recently I find it hard to keep track
of the every one's input to that conversation.

Tags are great, but (unless I am dense and don't know how to use
blogger) blogger doesn't provide an easy interface to add tags to
posts. Videobloggers may not be inclined to copy and paste the
required html or even know how to use tags properly.

Before I started videoblogging I am sure it was easy to keep track of
these threads since there were a few people participating...but since
the explosion, there's just too many to keep up with 'manually'

I guess in my usual round-about way I am asking this: how can we
facilitate conversation tracking? Groups, and social networks aren't
good for this since they are confined to the hosting site. Do we need
to promote tag usage more? Do we need to poke and prod blog hosting
services to provide support for tags (ie, make is easier to tag). I
think tags are the way to go, but it seems like something is missing.

Gena, the author of this graphic novel - Anthony Lappe is a friend of
mine and co-founded the Guerrilla News Network (http://gnn.tv) -- I
can assure you that it isn't a sophisticated ad campaign for any
commercial product, but I suppose it's possible that it's a
sophisticated ad campaign geared towards encouraging public action in
the sphere of influence. But I can't say that for sure...
