I tried the new Lavalier today, but am not sure if it has improved my sound. Since I've got bad hearing, I'm not a good judge. [videoblogging] Thanks To Those Who Entered VlogChallenge. The Winners Are....
Hi Guys, I want to say thanks to the following folks for entering our first VlogChallenge: Josh Wolf, Deirdré Straughan, Monika, UnzappedTV/Jason, Bev Sykes and Jan. The winners are announced in the 'Slammin Stuff' section of our site. FYI - we had 146 unique visitors to the site last week. I know, that is not much, but I'm hoping that if I keep adding VlogChallenge to various feeds and vlog directories that I'll get more and more coverage for those who enter. And of course I have to confess that I fantasize about VlogChallenge becoming known as a cool vlog related site. The site's technology is rather simple/basic right now. But if I get enough folks visiting and entering I'll be able to justify investing additional time and money in more advanced programming to make the site a really cool and unique vlogging experience. BTW this weeks challenge is Resurrection. Hmmmlots of possibilities there. Remember, you can enter with a new video or one from your archive. Hi Casey, It sounds like you need to manually insert the enclosure tag. Here's how you do it in wordpress: 1. Sign in to admin and go to the post in question 2. Scroll down to custom fields 3. for 'Key' type in enclosure. And, for 'Value' type in the direct path to your video. 4. Save and publish changes. Your video should show up. Honestly, though, finding dangerous material that can be done around the constraints of a dayjob is pretty tricky. What other ideas have people had? I totally agree. I own a small business in a small town where everyone knows everyone. So, my 'dangerous' vlogging will probably be fairly tame. But, if we think outside of the box we can come up with fun stuff. For example if I were to sing and dance that would definitely be dangerous, as I would look like a total AZZ for the whole world to see! [videoblogging] What's Going on With Blip.tv? Nothing is loading!
None of my blip.tv vlogs are loading. When I test other folks on blip.tv it's the same issue - they don't seem to load. I'm on Comcast Cable and can view vlogs from other sources without trouble, and not on blip.tv, not even my own videos. Yikes! Hi Guys, Someone commented that their ipod will not play my videos. They are embedded quicktime videos with an RSS feed, so I'm not sure why they can't play it. Also a couple of folks have asked that I make my videos larger. I keep them small for loadtime. Do you think that keeping them small really helps, or do you think that I should start making them larger? The fix was simple - you just have to manually add the enclosure under the advanced section of your post. Most vloggers can't budget anything other than creative commons works or works from folks who are allowing for free (negotiated on a grassroots basis). What would you consider the top ten most annoying vlogging errors/mistakes. I'll start - and I know that my opinion is going to be controversial 1. It irks me when people use copy protected material that they don't have the legal right to use. For example many vlogs use sound from famous musicians who have not authorzied putting their stuff on the public domain. Or lots of vlogs will use video clips from big hollywood films to which they do not have the legal right. I only use stuff that's authorized under common lisc. AND/OR stuff that I have purchased via stock outlets. I own a virtual agency and I have to negotiate with every artist regarding usage rights. These folks work hard to produce their work and I don't feel that it is right to take it without authorization. 2. Shaky video - ala 'the blair witch project' 3. Video with absolutely no text so that the only way I know what it is about is by clicking on it. OK, so what are some other folks pet peeves. Yahoo! Oh, to be fair I have to admit that in my first vlog, Branding Power the script is based LARGELY on a parable by BuildingBrands.com. I do give him full credit, and I did change it a little. So, perhaps I'm violating my own rule, cause I didn't contact him first? I think one of the other reasons I don't like when folks use hollywood footage and famous bands is because it takes the 'grassroots' out of vlogging, and it kind of seems like 'cheating' to me. I still don't see that if you use a soundtrack hat someone else has performed, because you are not making money from it, or shouldn't be, then a piece of music is like an advert for the copyright owner. Paul, I understand your thinking, and it seems logical on the surface. However companies/bands/whatever place a ton of effort into their talent, their creative products, their brands and their marketing. They do not want to be placed in things that may not be compatible with their brand plan. Or, in the case of very large/successful entities, they do not want to be placed in anything that is not part of their brand/marketing strategy. For example, we've taken great care to brand DivaDirectories with strong female images. If someone were to use elements of our brand in a vlogcast about biknin babes or 'girls gone wild', I would be extremely offended, would see it as damaging to our brand, and you can be sure that they would hear from a not-so-happy Monique. The bottom line is that I feel that folks should have the right to control their own works. If you email them and they grant you permission, then go for it. Also, I feel a bit cheated when I click on a vlogcast and what I see is footage from a large film. I want to see ORIGINAL stuff from the vlogger. Finally, vlogs may be small now. BUT eventually vlogging and certain vlogs will get big traffic. So, we have to deal with this issue now. But, that is just my opinion. Anyway, this thread isn't supposed to be about only copyright. It's about vlogging mistakes. So, does anyone have any others. Hi, I just started VlogDiva.com a few days ago. I was hosting it myself, and loadtime was pretty good. But today I loaded my videos onto blip.tv and now the loadtime of my sites seems REALLY REALLY slow. The thing is, when I tried to remove the blip.tv code, and called to my server for the videos the load-times was still slow. So, I'm not sure if it's an issue with my ISP. Or, if I messed something up. Can you please take a look at my site and let me know how long it takes you to load each of my two vlog posts? OH - I see. The God Movie is showing. I had put that in as a place holder yesterday. But I deleted it. I'm not sure why it's still showing in the feed. Any idea how I can fix it? Also, I got my must at garagebands.com - a very cool site. Thank you guys for your critiques. I figured out how to fix the problem. I deleted the post, and recreated a new post. [videoblogging] Projected Growth of Vlogging in 2006?
I've been trying to find some stats about vlogging, but haven't had any luck. Probably because I haven't slept in 24 hours! I got too excited making my first vlog and researching vlogging. Anyway, does anyone know how many vloggers there were at the start of 2005, how many there are now, and how many there are expected to me in another year? Estimates, of course. Oh - now I get it! Duh! I can host my videos elsewhere to conserve bandwidth. BUT I can embed the videos on my personally own/hosted vlog. Correct? Ok, now that I finally get it, which hosting do you guys think is the best option? Thanks Michael. I've built the wordpress template for my blog at www.vlogdiva.com. It's still totally bare bones. Later today I'm going to try using this software http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash_Video_Player It has a wordpress plugin so I think that it can work with the wordpress RSS feeds. Once I get that figured out I'm going to also look at creating quicktime versions of my blogs. The one thing I'm still stumped on is which editing software to use. There have been a few suggestions, but I don't understand why folks are so down on Pinnacle. Can you tell me why it is such a bad solution? Also, is Adobe Premiere easy yet powerful? I want to be able to edit the movies with sound, jpgs, cutting, etc., but I prefer to use a software for dummies. Then once I get really into it I'll upgrade to a more advanced software.
