Hello. If your device is jailbroken, then there is an activator
extension that quits all applications. If your device is not
jailbroken, then you will have to manually close your apps.
Also, IOS has a force quit feature, but I would not recommend
using it regularly.

I clear the app switcher at the end of most days, just to keep it from
becoming too cluttered.
I've not had performance issues since I have done that. I started being
very intentional about clearing it out often about 8 months ago.

My understanding is that NLS is committed to providing books and machines at
no cost. Eliminating the digital players would mean that anyone who wanted
to access NLS materials would need to have the means to afford a phone and a
data plan. For that reason, I don't see it ever happening.
