No double tap is needed, just touching the time or an item in the status bar
followed by a 3-finger swipe down or up will do the trick. The double tap

I can confirm the iMesssage bug is fixed. Denise was not able to use iMessage,

Feeddler jumps to the top of the page every few minutes, making it hard
