Re: Safari
If you're using the touchscreen, and not a Bluetooth keyboard, double-tap on the status bar to bring up the address bar and buttons at the bottom of the screen. Double-tap on the address bar or pages button as necessary. If you double-tap on the address bar, the keyboard will become available; you will also see a clear text button. Double-tapping this will get rid of any text in the address field and let you start typing the new address. If you double-tap on the pages button at the bottom of the screen, there will be a pop-up that shows all the pages you have open in Safari. At the bottom of this window, you will see a Mew Page button, right above the home button. Double-tap this button, and you will be taken into a new page, with focus in the address bar, where you can start typing your new address immediately. I hope this helps. Forwarding A Text message
Hi friends, I have a text message that I would like to forward to someone but I can't seem to do it for some reason, just wondering if someone is able to help? I open the message and move down with my finger to the actual part of the conversation that I want to forward. VO then says scroll up or down for options, I flick up and down but it just seems to move around the screen and not bring up an option to forward the message. I thought you had to flick up and down until you found the more option and then open that to bring up the forward button? I have done this before with another message. The only thing I can think of is that there is an email address in the message which vo seems to think is a link. Steve. This message may contain confidential information. Trial of face recognition app for Google Glass
Dear listers I was approached by a company who are creating a facial recognition app for Glass and who are able to provide loan pairs of Glass running their beta software over the next couple of months. They are in the UK and would prefer UK blind or VI users to help, but would consider further afield too if needs be. If you are interested please reply to me off-list and I’ll put you in touch with them. Here is the blurb they have provided about the project: ‘iCanSee’ is a face recognition app for Google Glass that notifies a user when an individual from a user's database appears in the visual range of the camera. This could be particularly useful for people attending meetings at work (to know who is in the meeting), going for a networking event, party or even recognizing their friends and loved ones on the street etc. We are looking for a group of potential early adopters of this technology, who are visually impaired or blind who would be interested to take part in consultations about the feasibility of this product, features they would like or even potentially participating in trials - testing the prototype version of this app for a period of time. Thanks – Robin. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: Spelling Messages With VO
You could use the rotor to read the address character by character. I know that VoiceOver recognizes email addresses as links even in text messages. I think you could find a way to add it to your contacts if you wanted to or !start a new email to that address by either double tapping on it or double tapping and holding. Yes, the rotor is the easiest way. I'd set it to words, then swipe down until you get to just before the address. Rotor to characters and keep moving forward, and there you go. Re: [SPAM]Question About Various GPS Apps for iPhone
I'll just toss out that whether you consider this an extreme premium is a personal decision. It'll depend on each person's economic situation and how much they're willing to pay for the convenience and features in the Seeing Eye app. What one person might consider an extreme premium another might consider a bargain, especially if independence and personal safety is involved. On 06/25/2014 09:31 PM, David Chittenden wrote: And, you pay an extreme premium for the server-based system. I get most of the same features from Apple Maps for free. I just need to put VO on the appropriate field to monitor, and I need to manually move VO to the information I wish. I also realize that my questions could generate a variety of opinions but that's OK. So, here's the thing. I'm relatively new to the iPhone and started out in the world of GPS with the built-in Maps app, which I can use and, for the most part, which I like. I've also downloaded several free GPS apps that I'm in the process of evaluating and learning. One of the things that I really loved about Maps was that I could have it constantly speak my current location, which I found beneficial while on the train going to work. I've seen this before while using a bluetooth keyboard on various Apple devices. I haven't been able to find a common cause, so I don't have an explaination. RE: Strange thing with messages
I have this problem with some Bluetooth keyboards. I just restarted my phone and it went away. If you have to, you can try holding the home button and the lock button down for 10 seconds, and let the phone totally reboot. This may solve it. If not, try turning off Bluetooth, disconnect your keyboard, restart your phone, turn Bluetooth back on, then repair your keyboard. This also stopped it. how do you set the phone to stay in portrit? mode
Hello, I think portrit mode is what I want, I get a bit confused between it, and landscape. I was working with a text message and the phone said button was to the right. I used to have it locked, so I didn't have to worry about how I moved the phone. I hope this makes sense. LOL! If anyone can tell me how to lock it, or check if it's locked, I'd greatly appreciate it! If it's in the control center, I can't get that to work, swiping three fingers toward the top of the screen from the bottom. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Hello everyone, Is their any app that I can use in order to get the movies from the blind mice movie vault to my phone. I know I can download them to my computer, then either put them in iTunes or my dropbox, but, just wondered if there is any way to totally do it with the iPhone. You are on the right track - it is in the Control Center. The trick is to first touch the Status Bar, *then* do a 3-finger swipe up anywhere on the screen. Speaker on iPhone 5s
Hello, list. I updated to an iPhone 5s on Tuesday of this week, and I have noticed that the speaker sounds much more muffled that the speaker on the five sounded. Is this normal for a 5S? Re: Apps: Beginning Struggling Readers
I know we say this all the time, but have you looked at Voice Dream Reader? It offers a dyslexia font, word highlighting, custom colors, and more. I'm not familiar with what someone might need who is new to reading, but I have heard that VDR is popular with not only blind people, but those with learning disabilities as well. There is a free trial, which will do everything the full one does except play audio for longer than a few seconds. RE: Speaker on iPhone 5s
Hi Keith, The only thing I can think of is sometimes after dictation, something doesn't quite turn off, and the speaker gets a little muffled and VoiceOver if a little quieter. You may try activating Siri, then deactivating it to make sure everything is turned off. Other than that, I'm not sure. Is this a bug in the app or are there certain types of feeds which don't play when the phone is locked. If this information is helpful, when I play the feed Voiceover reads a hint saying that I can tap to show or hide video controls. This is odd, considering that this is an audio and not a video feed. Re: Forwarding A Text message
What I do when I want to forward a text message is I have edit selected as one of my rotor options. With the opened text message I want to copy, from the rotor I select edit. When the edit field is open, I flick down with 1 finger to copy and double tap that. Then I start a new message or reply to an existing one and again select edit from the rotor. When edit opens, I then flick 1 finger down to get to paste and double tap that. The text is then inserted into that message. It took me a lot longer to type it up then it actually takes to do. HTH PS: You can do the same thing from an email and copy it into a text assuming of course that the email message is short or your recipient might get a half a dozen texts with a peace of the email and if they don't have unlimited texting, they won't thank you for it. Re: Issue with Live Stream Stopping After Locking iPhone
Contacting the developer is always an option, however a possible solution just occurred to me. It seems that the issue may go back to the screen locking after a certain period of time. To fix this, perhaps change the amount of time before the screen locks. The default is one minute, but I think you can go up to 5 minutes before it locks, or even opt to have it never lock. Be careful with the never lock item though since your battery could be greatly drained as a result. When in TweetList 4 or other apps where I know the screen lock to happen, I will touch the screen in some place after the screen dimmed message is spoken so that it will stay unlocked for another 90 seconds or so. Re: iTunes help needed
Hi all, I just wanted to give everyone an update on my iTunes situation. Well My itunes is now working like it should be and I can now open it. As far as importing my third CDit was imported in iTunes and it's there but, when it was imported into iTunes the third CD wasn't in the same place as the other 2 CD's that are in this collection. The third CD was stored in another folder called collections. So the third CD was moved from the collections folder to the folder that the other 2CD's are at But when I went to sync iTunes to my iPhone and sync this third CD to my phone it didn't show up in my phone with the other 2 CD's that I successfully sync to my iPhone. So, I tried importing 2 other CD's to itunes and then syncing with my iPhone and the 2 other CD's were successfully transford to my iPhone. But for some reason this third CD is giving me problems. iTunes recognizes the third CD and itunes will play the CD but when syncing to my iPhone the CD doesn't show up. So that's where I'm at on this. I will try syncing the CD to my pnone again and see if it shows up in my phone. This has become a mystry to me. I want to thank the person and he knows who he is for taking the time to call me and help me with this. Thanks. Re: Blind mice movie valt
You don't use iTunes match to get the movies. What I do is download them to my computer through sans space and as soon as it downloads the file is automatically added to my iTunes library and with in minutes the file syncs up to your iTunes match account and just like that I have the option of listening to the movie on my computer or iPhone. What I like to do to keep it all organized is I label every track under artist as either Blind Mice or Blind Mice T.V. that way I can just go to either artist to find all my tracks, pretty simple and I would highly recommend it if you want to be able to access your movies anywhere. RE: Help with the mp3 recorder app
Hi, I don't have the app you wrote about below, but I use DropVox in conjunction with DropBox. DropVox records in MP3 format and the audio is very high and sounds good. It might be worth your consideration at some point. Just thought you might be interested in another option if the one you have doesn't work out. Took Blindsquare for its first walkaround. Some significant misinformation. Insights?
Hi, Using an iPhone 5 with latest iOS and Blindsquare. Took a loop around my neighborhood tonight. I love the directional information, intersection information, and approximate street address information. There were at least 3 POI announcements that were quite wrong. The first told me it was 60 feet at 5 o'clock; in reality, it was about 2 blocks at 7 o'clock. Another was announced as 70 feet at 2 o'clock; in reality, it was 2 blocks at 9 o'clock. Another was announced as 80 feet at 7 o'clock; in reality it was about 2 ½ blocks at 2 o'clock. Is there a calibration or something I may have missed? But, again, all announced directional information was correct, as were intersections announced and approximate street addresses. One other question. I like the several announcements of you have walked x miles in y minutes. Is there a way to have such announcements repeated? I missed the last one because someone was talking to me, and I was interested how far I had walked in what time during this loop. Thanks in advance. I love that suggestion. Thanks. Re: Comparision of Aftershokz Bluez and Aftershokz Bluez2
The original Bluez seemed flimsily constructed. in fact, I went through two sets. The audio bleed was terrible, even with just voice, very noticable with music. When I was on the bus, people would sing along with my music. Also, they didn't fit my head right, and I needed to use the tension band, which might have inadvertantly led to the cracking of the housing. The Bluez 2 are much better constructed. It fits my head well without using the tension band. I think that the audio quality has improved. The button controls on each ear are replaced by one multifunction button. i find it more difficult to recall how to use that button. The only thing i don't like is that they seem to vibrate more against the cheek. Re: Comparision of Aftershokz Bluez and Aftershokz Bluez2
Funny, because while they are built better and sound better, they are painful to wear. If I left the first generation set on for hours, I didn't care, and usually forgot I was wearing them. With the new ones, though, an our is usually my limit; after that, the headaches cause me to have to take the headset off. I know not everyone experiences this, but if you can, try them out before you buy them as I have heard others complain about the discomfort. I have to admit that it would be very difficult for me to come up with a list of ten things which are not good about the iPhone but this article supposedly did just that. I plan to write a detailed blog post in the coming week with my responses to the ten objections but I'll just say that it's one of the most irresponsible pieces of journalism I've ever read from that magazine. Please, understand that this is not meant as a bash about the NFB vs any other organization or even a criticism of the Monitor. However, the piece infuriated me because the NFB is a highly influential organization and many of its members and readers of the Monitor will take the article seriously just because it comes from a nationally recognized blindness organization. My fear is that many people may read this article and will be convinced to not buy an iPhone due to things which the article claims are not good about the device. -- Feel free to visit my new Web site http://www.DavidGoldfield.info Feel free to visit my LinkedIn profile http://www.linkedin.com/pub/david-goldfield/12/929/573 Visit my blog http://davidgoldfield.wordpress.com Follow me on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/davidgoldfield David Goldfield, Founder and Peer Coordinator Philadelphia Computer Users' Group for the Blind and Visually Impaired -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Took Blindsquare for its first walkaround. Some significant misinformation. Insights?
Sounds like you had the phone's orientation reversed from what it expected. - Original Message - From: Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D. To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2014 8:46 PM Subject: Took Blindsquare for its first walkaround. Mystery solved: email address autocompletion
Quite a while ago I posted that I was having trouble getting autocompletion and/or choices for email addresses to come up when composing emails. I just solved the mystery! When using a braille display, sometimes just normal navigation doesn't get you to the left of the cancel button. For instance, on my Hims Braille Edge, I can use the left and right buttons on the four-way navigation to go left past the To: field and send and eventually to Cancel but the To: heading itself doesn't always show. However, if I instead do dots 1,2,3-space I always see that To: heading and then if I navigate right I always find my completion choices. So anybody using a braille display and having the issue of not getting email address choices to show should try that. -- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf. I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash! Then God gave me a new heart and life: His joy for my despairing tears! And now, every day: This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. OOTunes Questions
For anybody using OOTunes to listen to audio streams, I have these questions: - The FAQ suggests that one should be able to rename and permanently save a temporarily saved audio file; yet whenever I select the SAVE button and attempt to rename the file, it isn't changed in any way. What am I missing here? - When I select the SHARE: button and then select E-MAIL nothing happens. Is this a bug or is there something I need to do? - I presume the recording is in MRA format, how can I get the file to my PC so I could convert it to MP3? Thanks!
