IPhone 5s And Bluetooth Speaker
Hi friends, Before I try it, if I pair up my IPhone 5s with my Anker Bluetooth speaker, what happens when the speaker is not available, does the phone automatically default back to it's internal speaker? I don't want to end up in a position where VO is not talking any more. Is there any easy way to switch between the IPhone speaker and Bluetooth? UK bus times?
Ok, since Next Buses has fallen off the end of best apps, can anyone recommend another which shows all stops, all buses, keep favourites, and does it without ad's, and works well with VoiceOver. Traveline GB does not fall into this category in my opinion. I just need the info, can't afford to fight the app. Thoughts please, this is important, was one of my primary apps. Re: One Password auto fill?
Awesome about 1Password being made accessible to Windows screen readers in the future. I'm afraid to report that you will get the same level of accessibility with JAWS as you would with NVDA with 1Password. They are aware and told me that accessibility for screen readers was definitely in the development cycle for their next major release. I was using jaws when I tried to use 1Password. I have yet to test it with NVDA. If anyone here has any idea how accessible it is with NVDA, I would certainly appreciate knowing about it. -eric On May 21, 2015, at 10:18 PM, Gmail wrote: Yay! audible issue
I wrote Audible about the delete issue with version 2.51 and the refreshing issue some have reported on this list. Thanks to those who mentioned the issues, I have not updated the app as yet. Here is Audible's response to my note. I understand you have received feedback from some other users stating that there are having issues with the VoiceOver feature on our iOS app. I will be more than glad to help you with this. We had some system glitches in the latest update of our iOS app, which was causing several issues with the saved titles in your libraries, with the bookmarks of the books you already listened as well with the VoiceOver. Our technical department has been working on fixing those issues and they should be resolved by now. This should not be happening in the future. I apologize if this may be causing a bad experience with our service. I just checked the app store, and the version shown is 2.51, so the fix isn't in the store yet. I'll check next week and see what I find. As we know, it can take a while for updates to show up, if indeed they put in a new build ... Other Free Alternatives to Accuradio
Hi all. Subject line says it all. Are there any other free streaming apps besides Accuradio which will let you skip and ban an unlimited amount of songs? I'm asking this because I haven't been too happy with Accuradio as of late. I like to listen to their 1980s channel and I'm finding that they repeat songs a lot and when I ban a particular song or artist from the playlist, it doesn't stayed banned. I've tweeted them about it and they haven't done anything about it. Also, they don't have an uncensored hip hop channel which I find stupid because they have an uncensored comedy channel. So yeah, if there are any other free streaming apps that will let me skip and ban as many songs I want, that would be great. One thing though. I live in Canada so I can't download iHeart Radio if someone suggests that. I would use iTunes Radio but we all know that it'll probably never come here. Thanks in advance. Re: Which Should Be First, Restoring 6Plus Or Erasing Iphone5?
I'd back up, restore that backup, and then only delete the 5 once you are totally sure the restore was successful. You can also erase your current backup, then make a new one with a new password, to get an up-to-date encrypted backup. The password is, as far as I know, prompted for each time you back up, so making a new password should work out. I'm no expert, though, so someone with more experience can jump in here. Remember that all the encrypted backup gives you is sensitive information--wifi networks saved logins in apps, that kind of thing. You'll still get your settings, pictures, apps, and the like with a regular backup, you'll just need to configure some security settings and log back into your web-based apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instapaper, and the like). Re: One Password auto fill?
It doesn't need to be stated, but JAWS doesn't suck with everything. Two of the last three jobs I've had have been for large companies and organizations using Windows, and I wouldn't have been able to do those jobs without JAWS. Absolutely no other screen reader on any platform would have given me access to the applications I needed to use to do my job. You first have to put in all the necessary information about your credit or debit card in 1password application itself. Once it is done, when you are on any page that asks you to fill in the credit or debit card details, you activate 1password by pressing the shortcut key command+\. This will prompt 1password to fill in all the info. However, note that if you have more than one credit or debit card, when you use the shortcut key, 1password will present a window to you in which there will be a table listing various categories like logins, notes, and of course credit cards. You first need to press vo+space bar on the category of credit cared and in another table, you can choose the card you want to use and vo+spacebar on that one and bingo. You will have the info filled in on the page. So for this reason, it's a good thing to give each credit or debit card a name so that you know which one yo you are using. Whilst in 1password application, and when filling in the details for your card, remember to interact with various areas which are not so obvious. I think the problem appears when I'm passing the onboard Braille keyboard. I can understand that the phone is trying to work out if I'm about to use it or not and therefore there's a conflict, and perhaps this is more defined with the use of the 4S. Anyway, I'd like to hear from others on this. I have wanted to place the onboard keyboard in a different position on the rotor to try to alleviate this problem but find it just doesn't work. It always seems to want to end up between the characters and word settings, regardless of where I attempt to move it. Re: Sirius XM app
Hello, I sure wish music doc was still around and working as it used to be able to. Just real quick like, I wanted to let everyone know that this company is offering a 30 day free trial for online subscriptions. Anyway, I mostly like to get on there to listen to the on-demand content. I have been finding, that if you select search fill-in we could count down for example in the search box then use your rotor gesture set to headings and flick up or down you can get through the content very efficiently. I have also been in contact with this company regarding the voiceover issues. What you can do, is go under the tab that says me, then select send feedback and it will know it's coming from your account. Just send him a brief note as I did letting them know that voiceover is not working well with this app. I have noticed a lot of crashing myself. That's why I still prefer Radium over Sirius XM's native app. Even though they've come a long way to improve accessibility slightly, it's no match for Radium. I don't use the on demand or my SXM features that the native app provides so Radium's good enough for me. It's free in the app store and for Mac users it's $9.99 in the Mac App Store. looking for lightning extension cable for battery pack
Hi there! I recently got one of the Ravpower battery packs with the built-in lightning cable and prongs to plug into the wall, thinking it would be good to have when walking around while using GPS apps, so I don't end up with a dead battery. I thought maybe the cable that's built-in was similar to those retractible flat ethernet cables where the end might be inside somewhere, and you pull some out to get a good length. As it turns out, the built-in cable comes out of the side, as there is a little dummy lightning connector on the battery it fits into when not in use, but it is only about 3 inches long. Is there a such thing out there as a female to male lightning cable that I can plug into the little stub of a cable on the battery pack, so I don't have to try and hold both the phone and battery in one hand while walking? I'm sure I could exchange it for something else on Amazon, but maybe I wouldn't need to if I could just get an extension cable like this. Thanks. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: Your thoughts on the digit ice for creating and identifying labels
Feliciano, I think you are writing about Digit-Eyes, By Digital Miracles, L.L.C. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/digit-eyes/id376424490?mt=8 I and my wife have been using it for years. The iPhone app works great and we get a result within two or three seconds. We have our shopper put clear tape right over the bar code on the cans and boxes at the time of purchase right in the store. The tape is thick enough to feel and makes it much easier to know where to scan. The app makes a quiet beeping sound when it sees part of the bar code which gives enough feedback to allow us to adjust the camera to pick up the entire bar code. As the data base of bar codes is on the internet, it is constantly being updated automatically. Re: Jumping tw Compose instead of Back
Yes, this is a known problem with IOS 8. I see it most in the Mail app, where touching on the delete button and double tapping will bring up the reply dialog or touching the previous or next buttons and double tapping won't produce the desired action. The focus works fine with the flick left or right though, so I've gotten in the habit of touching a button and then flicking left and right to make sure it has focus before double tapping. I've reported this multiple times to Apple, but it wouldn't hurt if others reported it as well. Re: Your thoughts on the digit ice for creating and identifying labels
I have had good success scanning bar codes. It takes practice, and you have to have a good idea where the bar code is on the package due to the limitations of the iPhone camera. Yes, a hardware, dedicated, bar code scanner is going to be faster because of the camera design, but it is also going to cost a heck of a lot. Several people have mentioned on this list that when they go shopping, they have the cashier, or helper put a piece of clear tape over the bar code so they can more quickly find it with Digit-Eyes, and then you can get results almost as fast as a hardware scanner. How do you guys manage to get such good results? I have tried scanning barcodes on cans, packages etc but can't detect anything. What's the trick to get the code in camera focus? The iPhone app works great and we get a result within two or three seconds. We have our shopper put clear tape right over the bar code on the cans and boxes at the time of purchase right in the store. The tape is thick enough to feel and makes it much easier to know where to scan. The app makes a quiet beeping sound when it sees part of the bar code which gives enough feedback to allow us to adjust the camera to pick up the entire bar code. As the data base of bar codes is on the internet, it is constantly being updated automatically. anyone else found a bit of a problem with the rotor
Hi all, I'm experiencing some difficulty in moving to items on the rotor and wonder if anyone else is having the same problem. I'm still using a 4S but am an experienced user. However, with the increase of items on the rotor, I'm finding it more difficult to get to various items. I don't exactly feel I need to report this to Accessability but would certainly do so if others have this difficulty. Low disk space and don't know why or how to fix
Hi, I have a 16 gb iPhone 5c running ios 8.3. Lately I’ve been getting a message that my disk space is low. I haven’t installed any new apps or music for quite a while and only have just updated the apps. It says I can remove temporary files but don’t know how to do this without removing anything off my phone which I really don’t want to do. How would I fix this problem? Re: BT keyboard
Yes that's correct try turning the iTouch off and back on to see if that stopps the doubling of the letters on the keyboard. By device I mean the ITouch rather than the keyboard itself. I then tried it on the IPhone 6 with the result of the double letters? I am totally confused. This happens while inside the app. If pressing the home button, everything returns to normal. I have closed everything in app switcher, restarted the phone by shutting down completely, uninstalled the app and re-installed again, and nothing changed. Re: Zip files with non-audio content and voice dream
Hi Sandy, It seems I had this filer app at some point in the past, because when I went looking for it, I found it with a download link, rather than a price. So I did that, and when I try to read the help file that comes with the program, it's a zip file, I got an error. Are you supposed to be able to double tap on a zip file have it open and be read? Or, if there are multiple files within a single zip, are you supposed to see a list of those files? There was not any helpful information telling me why the file could not be read, or what intermediate steps I might have to take etc. Thanks for any further clarification. Re: anyone else found a bit of a problem with the rotor
BSI always waits to the right. If you're on character, or headings, or anything else and you enter a text field or webpage, BSI is a clockwise rotor turn away. This is done for convenience, making it as quick and seamless as possible to switch into braille when you want to start typing. I wonder if the problem you're running into is when exiting BSI? My main annoyance right now is that VoiceOver says portrait if you exit BSI and are not in landscape mode. This overrides the rotor selection announcement, so even though the rotor turned successfully, you only hear portrait and not the item you just rotored to. I'm wondering, then, if that is happening to you and you feel you have to rotor around even more to figure out what you landed on? Re: UK bus times?
Ok, downloaded it, not working! I find it is the same developer as Traveline GB, which I suspect is their latest offering, with Ads, in-app purchases and G knows what. But it just shows empty list, no stops around me, and find it didn't even switch on Location tracking. Yes, been in settings/privacy/location services, and Bus Checker wasn't even listed. Will delete both and retry by downloading just Bus Checker and see how it makes out. The concept is so useful, once it works. But it used to, that's the sad bit. Re: Zip files with non-audio content and voice dream
Mary, Although I have had Filer since I have had an iPhone, when the 4 first came out, I have never studied how to use it properly, only using it as is needful. So, problems with the Help file I cannot answer, however, I can say how i manage Zip/Rar and some other tiles using this app. So, I have a Zip file, perhaps in mail as an attachment, I choose to open it in Filer. Assuming you have not created a protocol in Filer as to where new files should go, they will probably arrive in the first level foler, (this can be managed if you find it necessary), flick right until you find your Zip file. Doubletap on it and you will hear a sound warning, as if you flick once to the right, the first option will be unarchive. Doubletap on that and you will be put back into your list of files again. Assuming you have not altered anything in Filer Settings, you should land back on the Zip file, and may need to flick around to find your newly unarchived file. By the way, I have mine set to delete the original Zip file, and so I land back on the unzipped one instead which is easier. Oce you have VO announce the text file, doubletap and hold. (the passthrough gesture) and you will be offered all possible options available on your phone for dealing with this sort of file. VDR will appear in this list. Doubletap the app of your choice and voila the unzipped book should appear in that app, ready to go. It would save some trouble is Winston could make is possible for BDR to open Zip documents, but, for now, filer will do. plus, because Filer can deal with various types of files, it is a useful app to have onboard. Hope this is of use, Happy unzipping! Sandy. Or, if there are multiple files within a single zip, are you supposed to see a list of those files? There was not any helpful information telling me why the file could not be read, or what intermediate steps I might have to take etc. Thanks for any further clarification. Hi Folks Some cyberfriends of mine reported that postings are listed crisscross but I told them that even for sighted people this has alwas been the case with facebook. So I tried the update and now I must even say that there are no real accessibility issues that changed from the last version. Even, the profile button has been labeled since now. So the update can be executed. Regards Davy From: Alexander Masic/Surgubben Sent: Friday, May 22, 2015 7:26 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: WARNING - don't update the fb app! RE: battery for appleTV remote?
Sometimes before voiceover announces the battery is low you get a clue it is low because when you try to use the remote there is a loss of range as well as a definite hesitation between the time you push the button and the time the Apple TV responds. If you end up pushing the buttons four or five times to get the TV to respond and you know for sure you are aiming at the right spot, then chances are that the battery is getting low. I find that is true with pretty much all TV and TV related remote controls. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Oh if I had read your message more carefully I would have realized you did say to turn it off and back on again. I am the culprit of this misunderstanding, not you. Thanks, Marie From: Carol Pearson Sent: Friday, May 22, 2015 10:41 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: BT keyboard Oh, so sorry I didn't make this clear. You turn VO off, give it a couple of seconds or so and then turn it on again. No, I wouldn't want to write without being able to hear what I have written either! However, I just began using a Logitec K760 Solar BT keyboard. When I very first paired it with the ITouch it worked beautifully. Then I did some app updates, etc. and when I tried using the keyboard again, it typed every letter twice. do you have to turn the device off and back on to get it to stop this behavior? By device I mean the ITouch rather than the keyboard itself. I then tried it on the IPhone 6 with the result of the double letters? I am totally confused. I understand but due to my present situation I need one as soon as possible. Otherwise I would have waited. Not going to discuss the situation here since that would be off topic.
