Hey guys,

I thought i would throw this out there to get some input. Someone asked
me the other day. Does anyone know on this list of anyone who is blind
working for apple? I've actually been asked that question many times
and it would be interesting to hear of anyone who has or is working
there, especially from an accessibility perspective.

IOS 10.0 Beta and KNFB reader

2016-08-02 Thread Kamal Haffar
Hi all:

I appologise if this has already been mentioned, however, if you rely on your
KNFB reader, then do not install the IOS 10 Public Beta. If you do, then you
will not be able to use the KNFB reader. Everytime you take a picture it
crashes even with the 10.0 Beta 3 release.

Thanks,

The software will compensate for a certain amount of skew, but if it totally
didn't matter how crooked you hold it compared to the text they probably
wouldn't have included the announcement.

Simon! If voice over says "no text visible", it is dollars to doughnuts that
simply turning the page over will solve that.
As for the advice about turning the page so many degrees clockwise or anti, I
ignore that because, from what I can make out, the camera will compensate for
that on its own.

dictation off to do that. So just wanted to pass this along in case anyone else

Hello there,

Thank you so very much! You help me fix my interview. It was really driving me

I apologize, that was supposed to be if you. I went into settings, and into

Have an awesome day!

Re: IOS 10 beta.

I thought this was mostly because discussing features and bugs in an IOS
beta was in violation of the NDA all beta users agreed to.

would be of very little interest to the majority of people on this list.
Then there is always the problem that if betas are discussed some list

2016-08-02 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Well, this is only true if you're comparing high end PC's to Apple. You
can definitely get low end PC's made with less expensive components. On
the flip side, you can also get high end PC's with most of the same
components used in your Apple products. BTW, why is this debate being
held on an iPhone mailing list?

Hi Sieghard,

Don't know whether you're serious when you make that statement or not,
but Apple computers don't use hardware any different from a standard IBM
compatible/Dell/HP computer.

In other words, the hardware is exactly the same.

it would only take a user to partition his or her drive into two
partitions, format one partition for Windows, and the other for Mac.

Once done, you can install what ever OS you want on each partition.

Once installed, you can run the Windows OS, with a OS10 virtual machine,
or run and OS10 computer, with a Windows virtual machine.

From what I hear, the former is easier because Windows doesn't make you
jump through any hoops with Virtual machine set up, meaning no extra
software needed, though I really can't speak to that experience, whereas
MAC's have to install separate software and set it all up, but again, I
really can't speak to that.

Regardless, if you open up a MAC you'll notice nothing different from a
Windows computer.

Fact is, it's all in the software, which I have to admit, is slightly
better than Windows software, and I've heard that MAC's have excellent
graphics, but Windows isn't as limiting as MAC OS, otherwise, why
require a Jailbreak in order to do any serious work with it, but I'm
reaching into the land of conjecture now, so I'll quit.

Either way, statements such as yours are purely baseless.

OK, so I didn't know this, apparently it can be done, but it seems to
require jumping through more hoops than one would have to when
installing Windows on a Mac. Also, the article you provided a link for
mentions this:

Before we start, we should tell you that Apple’s licence for OS X
expressly forbids it being installed on anything other than a Mac, so if
you choose to do it, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

I was always under the impression people want a Mac because it's
considered to be better hardware and of course also because of the OS.
Therefore I think if one wants a Mac then why not buy one instead of
trying to recreate an experience which in all likelihood won't be as good.

While you can install Windows on a Mac, I don't think you can install
the Mac OS on Windows. As for how, refer to some Apple support

it's better hardware.

Don't know whether you're serious when you make that statement or not, but
Apple computers don't use hardware any different from a standard IBM
compatible/Dell/HP computer.

In other words, the hardware is exactly the same.

it would only take a user to partition his or her drive into two partitions,
format one partition for Windows, and the other for Mac.

Once done, you can install what ever OS you want on each partition.

Once installed, you can run the Windows OS, with a OS10 virtual machine, or
run and OS10 computer, with a Windows virtual machine.

From what I hear, the former is easier because Windows doesn't make you jump
through any hoops with Virtual machine set up, meaning no extra software
needed, though I really can't speak to that experience, whereas MAC's have
to install separate software and set it all up, but again, I really can't
speak to that.

Regardless, if you open up a MAC you'll notice nothing different from a
Windows computer.

Fact is, it's all in the software, which I have to admit, is slightly better
than Windows software, and I've heard that MAC's have excellent graphics,
but Windows isn't as limiting as MAC OS, otherwise, why require a Jailbreak
in order to do any serious work with it, but I'm reaching into the land of
conjecture now, so I'll quit.

Either way, statements such as yours are purely baseless.

OK, so I didn't know this, apparently it can be done, but it seems to
require jumping through more hoops than one would have to when installing
Windows on a Mac. Also, the article you provided a link for mentions this:

Before we start, we should tell you that Apple’s licence for OS X expressly
forbids it being installed on anything other than a Mac, so if you choose to
do it, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

I was always under the impression people want a Mac because it's considered
to be better hardware and of course also because of the OS. Therefore I
think if one wants a Mac then why not buy one instead of trying to recreate
an experience which in all likelihood won't be as good.

Sieghard

Hello,
Well, it can be, but, as I don't think I have a different hard drive,
unless a 64 GB SD CARD WOULD DO IT,, AND AS I have a 32 bit device, it
wouldn't be ever so successful.

While you can install Windows on a Mac, I don't think you can install
the Mac OS on Windows. As for how, refer to some Apple support
articles, AppleVis, or Google.

Re: Question regarding new iPad Mini

2016-08-02 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello there,

First of all, no, I want to be able to use FaceTime. Dad is not my issue. But
thank you for that hint. My problem is, anytime someone calls me on my iPhone,
it rings on my iPad. I don't want this to happen.

I tried what Billy suggested, I went and turned off that Handoff, and both my
iPhone, and my iPad. But the problem still exist. I even restarted the iPad,
thinking maybe that would help. But it didn't.

Does anyone else have any more suggestions? I don't know what to do, and I
don't want this to keep happening. Thank you,

Terri

You have to use the rotor and select what you want to read by; character,
word, or line.

To spell a word out that you do not understand, use characters on the
rotor.

Remember once you select what you want to read by on the rotor, just flick
down to read from left to right, and flick up to go back from right to
left.

a little broken siri tip for you all

2016-08-02 Thread Gordon
So earlier my Siri quit working. I got the chimes, but no results for
anything including voice or text on the screen. This was driving me
crazy because I knew my mic was working and the phone was hearing what I
was saying. I turned Siri on and off and even did a soft reset and
several reboots using the power off button. Finally I decided to try one
last thing which fixed the problem. I turned both Siri and dictation off
and back on. This fixed the problem. I even had a highly inteligent
member of this group working with me to help track this issue down.
We're both thinking technical and using lots of brain power trying to
fix it, however it was right there in front of us all along. The only
reason I thought to try turning off dictation is because it said that
turning Siri off wouldn't delete the information stored on Apple's
servers. You have to turn dictation off to do that. So just wanted to
pass this along in case anyone else ever has this issue.

In Voice Dream Reader, in settings, Content Sources, double tap on DropBox, and
if this is the first time you will need to enter your Dropbox password, or
maybe just answer yes to enable DropBox, it has been a while since I set it up.

Then, when you are in the main screen, double tap on add, then select Dropbox.
You may have to also then select a folder in Dropbox where your files are, but
when you select an mp3 file, it will download it. Then you can play it like any
book or file.

When you finish and delete it from Voice Dream, it will still be on your
Dropbox.

I hope that helps.

You also should read the help file, and maybe go to AppleVis and search for

If so, I would not be able to leave bookmarks and such, correct?
Dropbox would not know where I left off in the file? If I am wrong about any of
this, somebody please let me know. I am new to all of this.

If this is true, is there a free audio player I can get for my iPad mini, that
will play MP3 files, and other audio files as well?
I want one that will know when I stop in file, and come back to it, you can
start up right where I left off. Is this possible?

Any help with any of this would be so very much appreciated!

Thank you,

another free gps program

2016-08-02 Thread Mike Arrigo
Not sure if anyone has heard of the GPS app called here maps. It used
to be totally inaccessible, but recently they have renamed the app,
it's now called here we go and is somewhat useable now. It provides
turn by turn directions, kind of like google maps. The main issue is
that some of the icons are not labeled, you can still figure out what
they do in most cases, but still, if anyone wants to try it and submit
feedback and ask the developers to label the icons better, the
directions the app provides work really well. If they receive feedback
from several users, it may make a difference.

Re: A bit OT, New Fire 7" tablet

2016-08-02 Thread Cheryl Lenartiene
Hi Adrienne,

I couldn't find any resources, either. I ended up researching Talkback
generally and VoiceView specifically, and I just learned on my own.

Since this is off topic, I'll just get you started by saying that to enable
VoiceView, press and hold the power button until you hear the piano tones, as
if you were going to power off the unit. Then, release the power button and
press and hold two fingers on the screen, placed slightly apart, until
VoiceView is enabled. You will have to hold your fingers in place for several
seconds.
Once VoiceView is enabled, you'll be taken through a tutorial to help you learn
the gestures, and more help is available under the accessibility section of the
Fire's settings.

Be prepared for a learning curve. Precision and speed are key when executing
the gestures, whereas iOS is more forgiving. You'll need patience and practice,
but you'll get it.

Thanks, moderators. I realize I've pushed the envelope.

2016-08-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, nothing has changed, Cara does not like beta features or issues/bugs to be
discussed on this list. There are other lists for that and I think it’s a wise
decision since there are so many list members on here so even now that public
betas are available those of us who install them are probably a very small
percentage of the list membership so it really would be of very little interest
to the majority of people on this list. Then there is always the problem that
if betas are discussed some list members are tempted to try it and as those of
us who have tried beta software know, it is definitely not for everybody and
you have to be willing to put up with problems.

Feel free to email me directly, Jennifer, if I can elp I’ll try to do so.

Sending A Video Via WhatsApp?

2016-08-02 Thread Fazil
Hi, list.

I have Iphone5S with IOS9.3.

I am trying to send a one-minute-18-second video via WhatsApp. I don't know
the size of the video and I am on a very slow internet connection.

The video starts sending but I get an error message sometimes after %22 and
sometime after %33 that it could not be sent.

Is there a way that I can compress the video?

Thanks!

2016-08-02 Thread Mário Navarro

hi.
man, I'm loving the beta of IOS 10.
everything is working normally.
god, it does not seem a beta! ...
yes, I uninstalled some apps that I always wanted to do!
this was one of the greatest joys I have had in IOS 10.
I already uninstalled 7 apps!
I'm loving the new voices!
voice over is light as in IOS 9!
it seems as if I am using the VO in IOS 9!
this new system is fantastic!
I sold my iPhone 4 s, and now bought the iPhone 5s and the IOS beta 10
is fabulous as the IOS 9!

I'm not sorry to have installed the beta and try to help with my feedback!
great system!
all my apps run smoothly!
It does not seem a beta!
for now love the IOS 10!
and will still get much better!
thanks apple.
cheers.

You have to use the rotor and select what you want to read by; character, word,
or line.

To spell a word out that you do not understand, use characters on the rotor.

Remember once you select what you want to read by on the rotor, just flick down
to read from left to right, and flick up to go back from right to left.

Re: fat bug discovered in latest whatsapp update

2016-08-02 Thread Davy Cuppens
Afik

The problem is gone by deleting all of whatsapp’s content, then delete the app,
reset the random mem of the iphone, putting it on and off and reinstall
whatsapp.
But now when I press and hold the photo-video button, I still get at first the
sound indicating a photo is made, followed iimediately by the video sound and
so video is recorded again.

Very strange this but the problem is solved here. Maybe could other folks test
this here? When recording video with whatsapp 2.16.7 if they also at first get
the foto click sound while beginning a video?

Check out Lilypond or ABC. Both are music notation systems. I doubt they have
iOS apps, but you can write in the notation, then create the PDF on the

Re: IOS 10 beta.

2016-08-02 Thread Gordon
Is anyone out here currently running the beta? A couple of weeks ago one
of my buddies was running it and he said it went through his battery and
a lot of apps weren't working with it yet. So I was wondering if this
has changed since a couple of weeks ago. I'm interested in trying it if
it's stable enough.

Yes, go into the app store, click on the tab at the bottom labeled Updates,
then look for a button that says purchased, this will show all of the apps
you ever installed using your Apple ID and you can reinstall them from

Re: osx on windows computer?

2016-08-02 Thread Devin Prater

Hi,
If Windows is slow on the computer, Mac will be slow as well. I'd
recommend installing Linux. Look up "sonar gnu linux" or "vinux" If you
really need speed, go with "talking arch" which is command line, but
along with Emacs and Emacspeak edbrowse, it can be pretty modern-feeling.

 Hi everybody,

Tomorrow I should receive my new iPad mini. I am planning to put stuff on
my iPad mini, using dropbox. This is what I am most comfortable with.
However, I was wondering, can I play the MP3 files from with in dropbox?
If so, I would not be able to leave bookmarks and such, correct?
Dropbox would not know where I left off in the file? If I am wrong about
any of this, somebody please let me know. I am new to all of this.

If this is true, is there a free audio player I can get for my iPad mini,
that will play MP3 files, and other audio files as well?
I want one that will know when I stop in file, and come back to it, you
can start up right where I left off. Is this possible?

Any help with any of this would be so very much appreciated!

 Thank you,

 Terri

Hi folks

With the latest update, you nolonger can make videos in whatsapp. Doubletapping
and holding the button foto or video just creates a photo not a video anymore.

Regards

Davy
