RE: another quirk after updating

2019-08-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
SIRI learns a bit over time so if you have two or three contacts with the name
John and you almost always call just one of them SIRI may just call if you say
call John. But for me SIRI has always asked which John, to use that example, I
wanted to call if it was somebody I called less frequently and if I had several
entries with that first name in my contacts. This of course only makes sense
because how would you otherwise be able to call a different John if SIRI ever
only called one of them and often SIRI doesn’t know simply things one would
expect it to know so I don’t think reading one’s mind is going to be on the
menu soon.
My guess is that after the update SIRI maybe reset or lost some of what it
learned over time and is starting to built this up again from scratch.

Why the need for the extra step to get Seeri to recognize someone in my contact
folder? I always used to simply say text and the name of the person, and almost
always only used a first name. That worked. Using Seeri to make calls has been
far less reliable. I guess I'll have to do the shortcut thing, but really...
It's like Richard saying that the Company field doesn't work. Why put it there
then?

All is pretty much worked out by now, except for the different voices. I
definitely have things like the reminders in the old voice but, Seeri has a new
chosen voice since updating. I scanned through some settings after the updates
to see what might have been switched on, but didn't look at

seeri at all. I'll do that now.

Yes, I deleted the Tune In App and installed it again. Since I had no
sign in, I had to put my local stations and shows in again. At first even
though I hit on the favorite button, to select a local radio station, voice
over did not say selected. When I put a show in and in that case it indicated
that it had been selected. Oh well. So much for consistency. It's not a deal
breaker.

Hello Deidre,

Once you contact Miles, if you go to Siri settings and go to the shortcuts
section, you should see a shortcut to contact him. You can assign a phrase to
that shortcut like, "Call Miles," and use it to contact him in the future.

Have you deleted and reinstalled TuneIn yet? sounds like that should fix it.

VoiceOver only uses one voice throughout the phone. There are more options for
voices in iOS 12 than 10, though, I think.

Best,
Anna

RE: A Question to iPhone 8 Users, Regarding Streaming Audio to the Apple EarPods Through the Lightning Port After Updating to the Latest iOS Version

2019-08-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I couldn't have said it better, Alan, and also no issues here on my iPhone 8
although I am on the iOS 13 Beta now for a short time. I had no issues with
wired Earpods, again, I am like you and use them most of the time and I went
through the entire public beta cycle of iOS 12.4 with no problems.

Mark,

I use wired Apple Earpods almost exclusively with my iPhone 8 running iOS 12.4
and have no problems with them. You don't really describe the nature of your
problem and I would think that would be helpful in trying to ferret out the
issue.

Subject: A Question to iPhone 8 Users, Regarding Streaming Audio to the Apple
EarPods Through the Lightning Port After Updating to the Latest iOS Version

Hello Fellow iPhone 8 Users,

For whatever reason that I cannot discern, ever since I updated to the latest
version of iOS, I cannot reliably listen to audiobooks / streaming audio/ or,
some days, even audio sound through the included wired Apple Earpods on my 8
Plus, via the Lightning port.

I have no problem accepting that my phone has a damaged port but my inability
to consistently reproduce the issue gives me great pause. And, "yes," I have
thoroughly cleaned the port and I have tested several different sets of EarPods
on the 8 Plus. For the record, none of my EarPods have this problem on any of
my other devices.

And again, this issue did not occur until after the update.

Ultimately, I will take the phone into Apple, as it continues to be under
warranty but I wanted to post the question here, just to see what kind of
replies I receive.

Yes, I've already called Apple and, true to form, they deny any knowledge of
any such glitch. Please be aware that on the very first day that the 8 series
was released, there was a boot-up problem which I immediately identified and
reported to Apple. They, of course, denied the boot-up glitch until about 1
year later when they finally fixed the problem with a later version of iOS.
They continued to deny the boot-up glitch even after hundreds and hundreds of
reports came in from all across the world. Now the glitch was not devastating
and, in the end, it did not impact the use of the phone to the extent that one
would return it to the store but the glitch existed and Apple denied its
existence. Actually, they did finally admit to the issue about 9 months in but
only to beta testers.

Sometimes I feel as though my beloved 8 Plus is seen as being a second-class
device in the Apple orchard.

My point, just because Apple denies knowledge of something, means nothing.

Okay, now that I've got that off my chest, (big smile), that's about all for
now.

All replies greatly appreciated.

My iPhone and streaming to my Fire TV

2019-08-08 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I am needing some help. I have a question I hope someone might have an
answer to.

I just recently got a Fire TV. I love it!

Anyway, I want to be able to stream audio from my phone, to the Fire TV.
I usually put audio described files in to Dropbox, and stream them using
my bluetooth speaker.

So is what I would like to do, even possible?

Can I somehow use the bluetooth from my phone, to connect to the Fire TV?

Or could I possibly use the Fire TV to connect to my iPhone?

Or would I have to do this some different way entirely?

Any thoughts or suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

2019-08-08 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Richard,

All I can say right now is that Money Reader and VO Tutorial are supposed to be
back on the App Store hopefully in a few days.

Money Reader will still be called NantMobile Money Reader, but VO Tutorial
should not change.

if anything changes, I will surely post to keep y’all informed as best I can.

Thanks again and talk with you soon.

Cheers!

LookTel Apps on the App Store

2019-08-08 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Firstly, apologies for the cross post.

As some of you may know, the “LookTel” apps have not been available on the App
Store for a few weeks now.

My sincerest apologies for the silence on this. I have not had any info I could
share.

As of now, the apps that were there will be back. I would give this at least a
few days; probably more likely closer to a week or so before we see them. -But
they will be back.

Thanks so much to all of you for your continued interest and support. It truly
means a lot!

Please have a terrific day / evening and talk with you all soon.

Cheers!

Cara

Re: Understanding Volume Controls

2019-08-08 Thread Devin Prater
You can do that by changing VoiceOver’s sounds. Go to Settings, General,
Accessibility, VoiceOver, Rotor. In there, find “volume” and double tap on it
to select it. Go back to the Home screen, and use the VoiceOver rotor and turn
to “volume," and flick up with one finger to raise the volume, and down with
one finger to lower it.

Re: Understanding Volume Controls

2019-08-08 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Joe,

You should have the setting to control sound volume with buttons. It's a little
above the one for picking your ring tone.

You can try a couple of things for adjusting VoiceOver. Adjust it while
VoiceOver is speaking, but no other sound is playing. The other thing to try is
putting Volume on the rotor and adjusting VoiceOver with that. Go to VoiceOver
Settings and choose Rotor to find this option.

I hope that's of some help.

Best,
Anna

Understanding Volume Controls

2019-08-08 Thread Joe Orozco
OK, so here's the problem. I used to be the nerdy type of person who
would read user manuals front to back in order to learn every possible
in and out of a device. Then I got older, accumulated
responsibilities, life got in the way, and dang it if I can't seem to
figure out what is likely a very simple solution in my iPhone.

Can someone please explain to me, in dumb people language, how to make
sense of the volume controls in my iPhone? I want the alerts
themselves to be reasonably loud, but I want Voiceover itself to be
lower in volume. I can't seem to achieve this without dropping or
raising the volume across the board, and I don't get that setting
under Sounds that says the buttons can be locked. I want to be able to
use my buttons to drop or raise sound volume, but I still want to be
able to tell the phone to keep system sounds a little louder to grab
my attention but Voiceover softer to maintain some sort of privacy.

If that makes any kind of sense, I'd really appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Joe

Hello Deidre,

Once you contact Miles, if you go to Siri settings and go to the shortcuts
section, you should see a shortcut to contact him. You can assign a phrase to
that shortcut like, "Call Miles," and use it to contact him in the future.

Have you deleted and reinstalled TuneIn yet? sounds like that should fix it.

VoiceOver only uses one voice throughout the phone. There are more options for
voices in iOS 12 than 10, though, I think.

Best,

Anna

Hello again

I just asked Seeri to text a friend by the name of Miles. She asked me which

take it the phone wants me to always include a last name if I want her to get
it right the first time around. I have no last name plugged in for some of my
contacts, and that was my intention, not due to laziness.

And as I predicted, even though Tune In was still in the app
switcher, it would not resume when I went back to it. Maybe I'll delete it and
install it again. If it does the same thing, I might look for an alternative.

Drag.

Only other thing I notice is that my voice selection is no longer a
global setting, but some functions now have a different voice. I need to go
look for the voice settings and see what I like. I heard a young female teenage
voice on someone's phone some months ago and I really liked it.

RE: another quirk after updating

2019-08-08 Thread 'deidre muccio' via VIPhone
Anna

It's not a deal
breaker.

Does anyone here on list know if there are an accessible crosstrainer, that can

Hey Keith,

I didn’t find the Apple News plus subscription to be worth it. I subscribe to
many blogs with the main function of Apple Nes. I just found that News flooded
my newsfeed with stuff I didn’t want to read. The accessibility was amazing,
but that’s as far of a compliment that I can give it. The content simply isn’t
there to keep my interest.

Re: A Message In Native Twitter Client?

2019-08-08 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello Fuzzel,

You will have to go to the profile menu in the top left hand corner of the app,
double tap, navigate down to settings, and find the privacy options in the
settings menu. You then will toggle on/off any of the options you would or
would not like to be active.

I hope this helps.

Re: another quirk after updating

2019-08-08 Thread Anna Dresner
Hello Deidre,

Once you contact Miles, if you go to Siri settings and go to the shortcuts
section, you should see a shortcut to contact him. You can assign a phrase to
that shortcut like, "Call Miles," and use it to contact him in the future.

Have you deleted and reinstalled TuneIn yet? sounds like that should fix it.

VoiceOver only uses one voice throughout the phone. There are more options for
voices in iOS 12 than 10, though, I think.

Best,
Anna

another quirk after updating

2019-08-08 Thread 'deidre muccio' via VIPhone
Hello again

I just asked Seeri to text a friend by the name of Miles. She asked me which
one I wanted and gave me 3 other names all beginning with the letter M. Now I
take it the phone wants me to always include a last name if I want her to get
it right the first time around.

Has the app settled down to where you can use it now?
I'm wondering if without a sign in account, if you can no longer add a favorite?
I doubt that, but since I have an account, I cannot test this.

2019-08-08 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, you can add or remove all kinds of things from the rotor other than
language.
Open settings, general, accessibility, voiceover, and scroll down to rotor.
Anything that says selected is on the rotor. If you double tap it so it
doesn't say selected, it will not show up on the rotor.
You can also reorder things if you like by double tapping and holding on the
reorder button and dragging it up or down in the list.

You could take speaking rate out of the rotor so when you want to change the
speaking rate, you have to go into VoiceOver Settings, speaking Rate.
Or, make sure you turn the rotor so it is not on speaking rate before swiping
in those apps.

Re: updating

2019-08-08 Thread Richard Turner
For quite a while now, the way to remove a favorite is to open it and double
tap on the unfavorite button, or deselecting the favorite button.
To rearrange favorites is not documented, but I found a slightly tedious way to
do it.
You double tap and hold on a favorite, and slide up or down in your list.
Given the size of my SE, you cannot move stations a very long way at once; but
with some trial and error, I got things rearranged.

I'm sorry TuneIn is being so difficult.
You may want to try the reboot with holding the power and home buttons for
about 6 or 8 seconds to do the forced reboot.

Tune In

2019-08-08 Thread 'deidre muccio' via VIPhone
It's taking forever to load up. I get no voice over unless I wait 4 or more
minutes and tap around, the tapping around may be doing nothing. I will seek
some sighted help to see if anything is coming up on the screen. All my other
apps like YouTube and Facebook work great, in fact better.

I see no settings or options in Tune In for anything anymore
other than to create a sign in or go premium. The favorites button no longer
works to put something into my favorites, formerly the Profile Tab, and I lost
2 of my local stations.

As for logging in, their policy is just that a license
agreement and privacy terms policy, but it has a dark tone to it which made me
not want to create a login, plus I would need to know in advance if I can stay
logged in or not.

Then I see no way to remove old stations, no edit button, no
gesture that I am aware of to remove or change the order in which my favorites
and podcasts are listed. Is there a new gesture that I am missing?

The update took very little time which I was thrilled about.
The only hitch is the problem I'm having with Tune-In. I fear I will go through
a whole new set of antics if I delete the App and install it fresh. I'm talking
about the free version.

Thanks all for helping bring me more up to
date. I knew listers hear would be the best source for correct info.

Re: a quick question about updating my iPhone

2019-08-08 Thread Richard Turner
Yes. It sounds like you did it correctly, but Apple was behind in having it
realize you had updated.
I've seen this kind of thing before where you did the update, then told there
was an update.
I just power off and back on when that happens and it clears it up.

Re: updating

2019-08-08 Thread Dave
It will take time, for the phone to settle. So keep it plugged in, for a few
hours.

The update was actually very quick. But I still have no tune in radio. It
won’t load up. That’s a disappointment.

   Ok, Dave. I hear you.
I had a hard time deciding to do without the phone tonight, since it is
still early in the evening. I know it will take time. I'm now eager to see
the result. However, as I suspected I might, I lost Tune In Radio when I
updated. It won't open. Maybe after I update the IOS, it will.

One more thing. Just remember, that the update, will be larger in size, as
you have missed quite a few updates. So, it may take longer to download,
and
install, as the iPhone 6, has a slower processor, than the later phones.
So

don't panic, if it takes a while to update, and restart. Just keep it
plugged into the mains power, and leave it to do it's thing, and don't do
that thing, that some people do, and start pressing buttons, and trying to
reboot their phones.

My main concern is that it's a very big jump from 10 three to the current
iOS. I'm recalling the problems that Mario had when doing a similar big
jump.

Yup. My iPhone SE can show its age depending on what I want to do, but

I can't think of any compelling reason why anyone would want to stick
with iOS 10.X. Maybe there's a particular app or service they don't want
to lose, but even then, there's probably an alternative available at
this

point and who's to say how much longer an app or service that only works
with older versions of iOS will continue to work?

I completely agree, your friend who said the updates are designed more
for newer devices is not correct at all. As Anna said, especially iOS 12
was very much a release where Apple concentrated on fixing bugs,
improving performance and efficiency instead of introducing a lot of new
features. During the keynote they actually specifically mentioned this
and showed how much better iOS 12 ran on an iPhone 6.
Keep in mind as well that while iOS 10 is still mostly supported, I just
received an email from Dropbox where they announced that they will drop
support for iOS 10 as well as hardware which does not support 64-bit
architecture. This means the iPhone 5/5C or earlier and the iPad fourth
generation and earlier. If you use Dropbox the app will soon no longer
work on any of those devices or on newer devices which haven't been
upgraded at least to iOS 11.
The current version of iOS is 12.4 and just as Anna, I highly recommend
you update. Just make sure you follow a few basic rules:

1. Go to the app store app and check for updates and make sure all your
apps are updated 2. Close all apps from the app switcher 3. Turn your
phone off, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on 4. Go to Settings >
General > Software Update and install iOS 12.4 5. After the
installation
finishes and the phone has rebooted, leave it plugged in over night
since

there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes after such a major
update. Then in the morning I would do another reboot of your phone and
you should be fine and most likely you will notice your old phone is
snappier than before.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello Deidre,

Apple put a lot of work into improving the performance of older devices
in iOS 12. I would encourage you to update. You'll get a lot of security
fixes as well. Also, it's possible that apps will perform better, since
developers tend to gear their apps to newer versions of operating
